Author: Rick Riordan
Title: "The lost hero"
Book 1 in series The heroes of Olympus
Main characters: Jason, Piper and Leo
This is the first book in a new series, that I guess can technically be read without the knowledge of the original one (Percy Jackson and the olympians) but even though this first installment revolves around a group of completely new characters, I really think that you should still start at the beginning... :) it will give you a much better understanding of a lot of dynamics between certain people, not to mention that quite a few of them make appearances in this book ;) some of them in a very surprising ways... ;) so let me tell you a bit more about our three main characters, and the bigger story, and then I will jump into all the reasons why I adored this novel :)
I was hesitant to start this book... Percy and his friends have such a special place in my heart, that I was afraid I would have troubles liking all the new ones... oh, how utterly stupid I was ;) because I absolutely fell in love with them :) maybe it was easier than I thought, cause at the beginning of the book all three of them are older than Percy was at the beginning... they are about 16, and that definitely helped me felt more connected to them... or just more connected than I was to a boy who's just 12 ;) ok, so let's get into a few more details about each of them... don't worry, not too much, I won't spoil you anything ;) so there's Jason, who wakes up on a bus and doesn't remember anything... how he got there, who he is and what is happening :) then we have Piper, she's half Cherokee and claims to be Jason's girlfriend :) and let's not forget about Leo, half Latino and best friends to Jason and Piper, with some unique mechanical talents :) honestly there are so many things that I would love to say about them, but all of that is discovered later in the book, so I won't spoil you anything too early ;) that's basically all I can share when it comes to some basic informatons... not a lot of details are in the synopsis and even though a lot of stuff we discover pretty quickly, and the book did came out a few years ago, I won't spoil you anything in case some of you that are reading this currently are new to this series :) so instead, let's jump into all my praises about this story :)
Like I mentioned before, I had my doubts when I started this story... but they very quickly disappeared, when I fell in love with it :) like always, we have a very entertaining writing style... and this time, instead of just one character, we follow around three perspectives :) all of them different, all of them interesting... :) I think I connected more with those three, because they were older from the start than Percy and the rest of his friends from the previous series :) we have another big conflict brewing, and this first book in the new series really sets everything very good :) besides the set of completely new characters, we have many appearances from the ones we know and love... :) those are also moments when the knowledge from previous series really comes in handy ;) because all those scenes, connections and such, mean that much more when you know all the history :) since this is the first book in a new series, I don't really want to say anything else about the big conflict and what exactly is happening in this installment, so as not to spoil you people, but I will say that once again Rick Riordan does such a wonderful job showing us some new aspects of a world we thought we knew so well... ;) introducing us to new characters, with new abilities... I am very excited to continue on with the series... the best proof of how much I loved this book is the fact, that I planned to read something completely different once I finished it... but I just had to know what's gonna happen next :) yeah... I think I'm gonna be unable to put this series down and I will have to finish it before I can read anything else... oh, how hard my life is... ;) if you had your doubts about starting this new series after loving the one with Percy Jackson so much, definitely cast them aside :) this is a really great sequel / companion story and I can't wait to know more :)
