J says :) #4

Let’s talk about…
Destinations!

I would like to start with something maybe a little bit off topic, but I’ll definitely get there in a minute and all will be clear. But first I have to confess that it happened again. Here we are on a Wednesday night... again. Didn’t I had this conversation with myself exactly a week ago? What’s wrong with me? I think I must secretly like my personal drama of an approaching deadline, how else can you explain it? Really, how? I’m asking you people :) Or maybe it’s just the special atmosphere of writing at night, all by myself when everyone is already asleep…

Anyway, I actually wanted to start with something different, because what most of you, well almost everyone really, don’t know... today is my birthday! And I wanted to share with you guys the story about what happened to me last Saturday. So it all can be sum up with one word – surprise! My best friend threw me a bithday party, you might think that I could suspect it, but I really didn’t. First of all, I’m now oficially 29, so while naturally one could expect a birthday surprise party on a 30th birthday, not so much a year before. But nooooo, not with my crazy friend ;) All I can say is that I was really surprised, like if you would look up “surprised” in a dictionary or google it right now I bet you would see my picture :) Anyway everything was phenomenal, there was a theme of course, well more of a favourite colour kind of thing really, so everything was blue: cake (blue cake with snowflakes, how cute is that?), decorations (like big ballons in shape of a 29 and lots of stars – blue and silver), whole table with delicious food and let’s not forget about confetti cannon. We drank champaign, and played boardgames all evening, because that’s the kind of a party girl I am. So in one word – perfection, well I mean party, not me :)

But let’s get back to the actual topic of today’s post – destinations! Since birthday is the best day to wish for something and I always wanted to travel and see the world, why not start with places that I fell in love with, while reading books :) so let me take you on a trip…

New Zealand

I just had to start with this one :) because for me, destination is not everything, like on vacation, it doesn’t really matter that much to me where I’m going, but with whom. And New Zealand has one big advantage over any other place, because that’s where M (#SoulSister, #FriendAcrossTheWorld) and her family lives. So with every e-mail and letter, I feel like I know a little bit more about this country, and it’s unique culture. So it’s not really a question will I ever go there, it’s more of a when… But it will definitely be a trip of a lifetime, mostly because it’s basically across the world, but I know it will be worth it :)

But let’s talk about the book, that kind of started it all. I’m talking about “Rock Hard” by Nalini Singh, it’s book #2 in Rock Kiss series, and trust me, all of them are amazing. But only this one is set only in New Zealand. So I hope, for your sakes, that you know this story, but if not, definitely fix it. Buy it, borrow it, I don’t care, but read it! Seriously, I can’t think of a one single flaw in this book. The story is amazing, so are all the characters, and who doesn’t love a good office romance. So go ahead and see how the story between Gabriel and Charlie ends, because it started with a stapler :) The only question is who will win this battle, growling T-Rex that storms through office leaving carnage in his wake… Or a shy, little mouse… or maybe it’s just her mask, and underneath it something is lurking, something with much less of a mouse and more of a tigress…

Ireland

I think my love for Ireland started a long time ago, with many books written by Nora Roberts. Like the very first book from Gallaghers of Ardmore series called “Jewels of the Sun”. It is a wonderful story, full of magic. I’m talking about beautiful legends and true love, not really spells or anything. All of them are truly amazing. This one is just the beginnig, it’s about Jude – who wants to change her life, so she just packs and moves to this beautiful country (who wouldn’t, am I right?) to write a book about Irish Folk. And who’s gonna be a better teacher than Aidan – the owner of a pub, with many stories to share. So while talking about legends and adventures, they will start their own…

Montana

I have to say I’m a typical big city girl. I’m used to many advantages that are right across the corner, but sometimes I wonder what would it feel like to live on a ranch. Just like one in the book written by Nora Roberts called “Montana Sky”. Can you imagine working and living in a place like this? I bet it would be interesting, that’s for sure… So what I love about this book, is that you get not one story but three. And all of them completely different and that’s great :) So one ranch and three sisters (they didn’t know each other) that are forced to spend one year together in this place by their late father’s will. One of them – Tess – called Hollywood, you can guess why, is a screenwriter and just wants to collect her share of the money and get back to her life. Lily is looking for a safe haven, and just wants to blend in. The youngest one – Willa, lived on the ranch all of her life, and because of that on her shoulders falls all of the responsibility to make it work. But what a story that would be without some men in it, right? And all three of them are amazing, but in their own special way. But what’s great about this book is that it’s not all romance and farm animals, we have an enemy of the ranch who will stop at nothing to destroy them all (little dramatic, I know). So one year, three love stories and a mystery, what more could you wish for in a book…

Tennessee

So, maybe I’m not a fan of this exact state. Well, that’s because I don’t know much about it really, but what I do know is that there is this town called Green Valley, and that should mean something to you guys :) Does it ring a bell? Anyone? Come on it’s were Winston family lives, of course. And what a family it is… Well, we meet all them in book #4 in Knitting in the City series by Penny Reid. But I fell in love with this place while reading her Winston Brothers series. Every book was just fantastic. Ladies, there is a place, where you can find manly men. You know what I mean, right? Not just guys with cool, manly jobs, like park ranger, mechanic or who knows what Cletus really does ;) but I’m talking about real southern gentelmen. And the accent… so hot, I’m sorry but I have fresh in mind an audiobook of “Beard Science” since A was listening to it recently and I was curiuos why she sighs so often, and now I know :) So, little town, southern gentlmen and in this case all of them with beards, which is not nocesarry but highly encouraged…

London

I saved London for last, because it’s not that simple. In this case it’s not only a place I always wanted to visit but also time – Victorian London. With all the balls, magnificent gowns, dashing gentelmen and not-so-gentelmanly reformed rakes. And I can’t find a better family to live with in this place and in this particular time, than the Bridgertons from series called exactly like their last name, written by Julia Quinn. They’re an amazing bunch, with mother who wants to happily marry off all of her children, and there are quite a lot of them, but don’t worry all of them get to have their happy ending. My favourite is book #2 about the oldest one of them – Anthony. But you should read about all of them, because the relationships between these siblings are one of a kind. I especially enjoy their game of pall-mall, also don’t you dare forget about Lady Danbury and her famous walking stick – she's a real scene stealer and of course the great mystery about Lady Whistledown. I won’t say anything else, but I’m curious what book would you love the most. I would like to point out that there are eight of them, with names in alphabetical order, so we get: Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory and Hiacynth so I would like to point out that J would be 10th in line for her happily ever after…

I hope you like the destinations I picked, but what about you guys? Do you fall in love with some places while reading? If so, share them, I’m always curious about something new and exciting :) But don’t get me started on, maybe not so much as places but more like, whole worlds, fantasy lands and stuff like that, it’s a story for a whole different post. But maybe someday, I’ll share them with you…

J
