Review: "The Razvak hunter" by Arel B. Grant

Author: Arel B. Grant
Book 1 in series Razvak
Main characters: Aelwyd and Dalbran

I got a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review :) this is a debut novel from a new to me author, and I quite enjoyed it :) it was a super quick read, so my review won't be very lenghty as well ;) so how about I start with telling you a bit more about the world and main characters, and then share my thoughts and feelings about it :)

This fantasy story is set in a different world than ours... we follow two stories, with two main characters... eventually those stories come together and the connection between them is explained... but that's all I can say about it without some major spoilers :) there are *before* and *now* parts as well, but again... no spoilers so no more details about that... ;) are you starting to see the theme here? ;) so what can I say... Aelwyd is the main character of the *before* part... a great warrior, very public figure, bound by a lot of rules connected to the thing that makes her so powerful... and by thing I mean a unique jewel... she is the symbol of light, so naturally, we have to have a symbol of darkness to balance things out... that's where the razvak comes into focus, because he is... evil is too small word to truly describe him, but let's go with it anyway :) he keeps coming back every time he's defeated, in what seems like a never ending cycle... and the *before* part, tells the story of one of those times... when it comes to the *now* part, the main character here is Dalbran, a young man who knows only his guardian... she raised him alone in the middle of nowhere, with nothing but cruelty and coldness on her side... this is definitely a much more mysterious part, with very little details, but I actually liked Dalbran much more than Aelwyd... and with that little sentence, let me jump into my opinions about the book ;)

So all in all, I liked it, I gave it 4 stars after all :) but I definitely had some problems... well, not exactly problems... more like personal observations and opinions :) we are thrown straight into the middle of action, with little to no explanation whatsoever... that can be said about both the world in general, and the characters... which makes it that much harder to connect with them... and don't get me wrong, it's not like I hated it, but it definitely took me longer to get to know everything and everyone... and there were still moments when some things / events were mentioned in passing and I was all like *no... tell me more about this... I need more details to care...* so you can see my dilemma... on the one hand I was intrigued by the world and the whole idea of the plot and the characters... and on the other hand... well... let's just say there is so much potential for more :) I'm hoping that in the next installment we will see more flushed out characters, get some more back stories about them, so that their behaviour will be explained more thoroughly... because again, there were moments when it was hard for me to understand why certain person acted that way and it threw me out of the reading vibe :) it's definitely a solid start to a series, and the writing style was really good, so I'm definitely interested to know more in the future :) I hope you will give it a try as well :)

And now you actually have the best occasion to actually get it for free :) currently there is an amazing opportunity to check out this and lots of other very interesting stories :) follow the link below to check out all of them and see if you can find something for yourselves :)
