Review: "Cherish hard" by Nalini Singh

Author: Nalini Singh
Book 1 in series Hard play
Main characters: Sailor Bishop and Isa Rain

New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh kicks off her new Hard Play contemporary romance series with a sizzling story that’ll leave you smiling…

Sailor Bishop has only one goal for his future – to create a successful landscaping business. No distractions allowed. Then he comes face-to-face and lips-to-lips with a woman who blushes like an innocent… and kisses like pure sin.

Ísa Rain craves a man who will cherish her, aches to create a loving family of her own. Trading steamy kisses with a hot gardener in a parking lot? Not the way to true love. Then a deal with the devil (aka her CEO-mother) makes Ísa a corporate VP for the summer. Her main task? Working closely with a certain hot gardener.

And Sailor Bishop has wickedness on his mind.

As Ísa starts to fall for a man who makes her want to throttle and pounce on him at the same time, she knows she has to choose – play it safe and steady, or risk all her dreams and hope Sailor doesn’t destroy her heart.

I got an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review :) this is the first book in Nalini's newest contemporary series, but it's also a spin-off / prequel sort of a story, connected to a book that is a part of yet another one of her series :) let me try to explain a bit better :) we first met Sailor in "Rock hard", which was a story about one of his brothers, Gabriel, and he was already with Isa in that book :) so this one is the beginning of a spin-off series about the rest of the brothers, but we start with a story that takes place before the events of the original one, if that makes sense to you :) don't worry, you can read this one without any addtional knowledge, because it works perfectly well as a standalone :) so fear not even if you are new to Nalini and her writing style and just dive in :) but first, let me tell you a bit more about this book in general :)

The prologue actually takes place even further back than we expect, when Sailor and Isa first saw one another... yeah, I haven't used the word *met* for a reason :) but then we very quickly skip ahead seven years, to their actual first interaction... which is much more interesting ;) Sailor is the owner of a small landscaping business, working hard to achieve his dreams... Isa is a teacher, aspiring poet and the daughter of a very successful and very rich parents... her family situation is very... complicated... yeah, let's go with complicated... with both parents busy with their companies and divorced, and a few step-siblings, her plate is pretty full... and I don't know why exatly, but I just couldn't relate to Isa as much as I would like to... or as much as I usually do with Nalini's characters... maybe it's just the mood I've been lately, and once I re-read this book in the future I will absolutely love her ;) but for now I only liked her :) although she did some small things that got on my nerves a bit, but nothing majorly bad... Sailor on the other hand... *sighs dreamily* I adored him completely :) he was very mature for his age, especially since he was a few years younger than Isa :) not to mention completely charming and swoonworthy :) theirs was definitely not my favourite type of relationships... cause I am not the biggest fan of those insta-lusts kind of situations... and definitely not in contemporary romances... it's somehow different in paranormal stories, where there is talk of mating bonds and some other supernatural connections and such ;) so that super sizzling hot attraction between them was a bit too much for me... nevertheless once there was more interactions between them, I got on board of that duo ;)

Nalini is definitely one of my all time favourite authors... I always enjoy her stories... even though some of them a little less than others :) I have a feeling that this particular novel, was just one of those cases... or again, maybe it's just this really weird mood I've been in lately... only time will tell ;) but I can easily recommend you guys this story... and all others she wrote ;) but since this is a review for a very particular book, I will stick with my opinions to this one :) I absolutely adored Sailor's family :) I mean... his parents, and by that I mean his mom and step-father, are amazing :) I have no words good enough to describe them :) there are two other people I want to mention and I'm not gonna lie... I would love to read stories about both of them in the future :) so we have Nayna, Isa's best friend :) and Catie, one of her siblings :) and that is all I'm gonna say about them :) as always, the writing style was delightful :) but that is no longer a surprise for me in Nalini's books :) so even though I had some small issues I still loved this story a lot :) ultimately I gave it 4,5 stars :) the more I think about it, the more convinced I am that this 0,5 I deducted is connected to my recent mood, but it's my opinion for now and I am sticking to it :) I definitely recommend you guys to give this lovely story a try if you haven't already :)
