Books I can't wait to get my hands on ;) december edition

How?!? just how is it possible that it's the end of another month?!? seriously people... I feel like I just wrote this post for the previous month... *sighs* time really flies by when you're busy ;) and december will go by even faster, because of all the stuff I need to do... but worry not, I will do my best to not disappear completely as a blogger :) ok, so back to all the upcoming books from december that I can't wait to read... ok, to be honest, it won't be ALL the books that I will probably read at some point in the future, because I want to tell you only about three of them :) there are a few more from the series I know, but I'm not up to speed in them, or something like that, so... this time I'm just gonna share with you guys three books that I was actually lucky to get ARC's of :)

So the first one is actually the one I am currently reading :) "On thin ice" by Carrie Aarons is a standalone contemporary romance about a young heiress who after the murder of her parents is now hiding in one of the mansions belonging to her family that not many people know about... and the hero is the groundskeeper there... so besides the very slow burn romance... at least in the part I already read, there's definitely a mystery part of this story about who did that to this family... I don't want to say more, because of spoilers, but I can't wait to uncover all the secrets ;)

Another book that I am really looking forward to read is "Becoming a legend" by Sarah Robinson :) it's book #3 in her Kavanagh legends series and after absolutely loving the previous one... only the previous one because I still have yet to read the first book... :) I can't wait to read this installment :) I don't want to say too much about the main characters, but the series overall tells the stories of Kavanagh siblings, focusing each book on a happy ending for one of them :) I am a huge fan of Sarah's writing style and I can't wait to dive into this series, because I simply adore that family :)

Last but not least, there is the newest installment in Cold Fury hockey series written by Sawyer Bennett, "Max" :) now about that one, it's a bit of a funny story :) I read the first four books a while ago and absolutely loved them :) then I sort of skipped the fifth one, because of... well, lack of time and all sorts of different reasons :) but since they all can be read as standalones, I decided to read this new one without catching up on "Hawke" :) Sawyer Bennet is another author that has a great writing style and I can't wait to see what she has planned next in this series :)

Review: "Nobody's hero" by Bec McMaster

Author: Bec McMaster
Book 1 in series Burned lands
Main characters: Lucius "Luc" Wade and Riley Kincaid

I got my hands on a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review :) and I couldn't be more happy about it :) mainly, because since I am now a part of her ARC team... and I am very proud to say that :) because of that I knew that I would be getting the sequel to this book in january :) so my plan was to catch up on that first book in december :) so imagine my surprise and joy when I was offered that very book in an e-mail thanking me, and by me I mean the whole ARC team for being a part of the release blitz for her last book :) it was like a sign... ;) so naturally this gem was bumped on my tbr #BookMountain and let me tell you... I loved it :) I was a bit hesitant going into this story, mainly because it's soooo much different than her other books, but my worries were for nothing :) each book of hers I read, just proves again and again how much I adore her writing style :) sure, I may not love each story and / or characters on the same level, but the phenomenal writing style is a constant in all of her books :) so how about I will tell you a bit more about our main couple and the world this series takes place in general :)

Ok, so the first thing that comes to my mind when I think about this book, is that it has some serious "Mad Max fury road" vibes :) and I am talking only about that one particular movie, because I haven't seen the previous ones :) but I absolutely loved, loved, LOVED this new installment :) and when I started reading this book, the overall vibes were definitely similar :) which only added the awesomeness to the story :) so we have this alternative version of our world, set some time in the future... I'm not gonna go into too many details, mainly because a lot of those details we learn along the way and I want you to discover them as I did while reading... :) but basicalyy there's been some stuff that happened and now part of United States became Wastelands... this very bleak, dystopian place with very little resources and people living in small settlements... with all sorts of bad... let's just say *things* and leave it at that, because calling them *people* would be too much... I know I'm being vague, but I can say only a bit more without some major spoilers... so there are reivers, this group of... let's call them bad scavengers... and of course wargs... they used to be people, but after being infected with a certain virus, well... it changes them... and trust me, they are NOT the worst thing that's out there... I feel like that's pretty much all I can say to you without giving away too much, so hopefully this will be enough to get you curious, when it comes to the world :)

Now let me tell you about our main couple and some secondary characters as well :) but I will start with Luc and Riley :) I did not expect to like them as much as I did :) we are definitely thrown straight into the middle of action when the book starts, and very quickly we encounter the first meeting between them... or more precisly, how she runs him over with a car... #TrueStory :) there's definitely more to that first meeting that you might think, but I won't tell you anything else :) trust me, it's for the best :) what you need to know is that she ends up as his prisoner, after he kidnaps her to exact a revenge on someone who wronged him in the past :) I know, I know... I'm being vague again, but you don't want to know too much before going into this book :) what I love about their relationship, is that it doesn't happen instantly... it's not like she thinks *hey, this guy kidnapped me, but he's pretty hot, so naturally I should fall for him* :) no, it happens over time... ok, maybe not like a lot of time, but definitely A LOT of stuff happens and she has the opportunity to see him in a different light, doing things she did not expect... and the more she gets to know him... well, you can guess the rest :) I love their interactions and how they change throughout the book :) as for the secondary characters... well, again, I can't actually tell you too much about them :) mainly because if I name them, you'll know they will be important :) and trust me, I see soooo much potential for future stories, including one that if I'm right, it will definitely be a surprise for you, so no spoilers from me :) but what I can say, is that once again Bec McMaster was able to create a whole set of different characters that you love or hate, depending on whether they are the hero or the villain of the story :) I love how complex her characters always are and how many times they can surprise you, even if you think you know all there is to know about them :)

If you haven't figured it out by now, I absolutely loved this book :) I know I haven't shared a lot of details about what actually does happen in this story, but me being vague was totally on purpose :) trust me, it's much better this way :) because this book is filled wih surprising twists and turns of events... they happen like all the time... there was one particular moment when I gasped in surprise so hard, I thought I wuld hyperventilate :) #NoJoke :) so I want to be sure that you will be just as surprised as well :) the best compliment I can give this book, is that I couldn't put it down... I was reading it whenever and wherever I could... even in the mornings on my way to work... :) and that NEVER happens :) mainly because after I get up at 5.30 (because I start work at 7) I am usually to sleepy to do anything productive on my way to work :) I listen to some music that prevents me from falling asleep on the bus or subway, but that's pretty much it :) well, once I started reading this book, I was reading it everywhere :) including on my way to work in the mornings... because something fascinating was happening in that story all the time... :) and every time I had to put it down and go do some adulting I was sad... ;) so I read it every chance I could :) I definitely finished it because of that much sooner than I planned :) but it was soooo worth it :) now of course, I can't wait for that second book :) so if you are looking for a different book, for a story that will keep you glued to the pages... or an author with a fantastic writing style and the ability to create worlds and characters that you can't put down, then definitely give this book, and this author in general, a try :) because if you haven't before, you have no idea what you're missing :) go remedy that right now... it will be worth it :)

Random ramblings of a bookworm ;) #40

Crazy few weeks
Temporarily reading two books
And
Countdown to the concert

Hello, hello my awesome people :) can you believe that it's my #RandomRamblings post #40??? how the time flies by... :) I have quite a few interesting things to share with you guys today, so let's just jump straight into them :) and today we will go with the order of those headlines, because the fact that I'm in a bit of a rush is very much connected to that first line... ;)

Ok, so the upcoming few weeks will be totally crazy :) I have sooo many things on my head that you would not believe :) and I decided to share at least some of you with them so you would understand better why I am not blogging as often as I would like to :) so first, work is going to be... well, busy is not enough to describe it :) besides the usual stuff we all got going on, there are going to be three events in the upcoming two weeks to prepare AND gift baskets, because christmas is coming and it's the time of the year for presents ;) and that's only part of my to-do list :) there's also all the gifts I need to get personally for my family :) I am like half way through them, and I need to get a move on, on that second half, so that everything will be able to get to me in time :) plus all the blog stuff I have, although I am very glad that I don't have as much events here as I used to in the last few months, because if that would be the case, I have no idea when I would actually sleep... :) so if I'm not as active on social media, or not posting here as often as I'd like, those are the reasons... :) everything will slow down after christmas, but for now... *sighs* I'm preparing for anything ;) keep your fingers crossed for me :)

So the next headline is about two books ;) first I need to explain something to you guys:) I used to read a few books at once... so I would have something for my different moods... but after some time I realized that this way of reading books is not really for me... I had troubles remembering all the details about characters and different worlds I've been reading about and well... I decided to switch it up to read just one book at a time... :) but recently I decided to make an exception... :) I was reading an ARC of "On thin ice" by Carrie Aarons, and really loving it, make no mistakes about that.. :) but there was this feeling that's been nagging me for quite some time... a feeling that I needed to read a romance set in the past, with witty banter and a sort of "Beauty and the beast" kind of a situation going on... :) so I knew exactly what kind of a book is on my mind... "Tempt me at twilight" by Lisa Kleypas :) and since I have it in as actual paper version... *sighs dreamily* how long could I have really resisteed? ;) don't answer that, it was a rhetorical question :) so I decided to put "On this ice" on hold and read my historical romance throughout the weekend... :) yeah... good plan ;) unfortunately I was so busy on saturday, and then I... well, fell asleep on saturday night... #PartyWild :) as I am writing this on sunday, I only managed to read two chapters... *sighs* I know, I know... so I changed my plan :) I decided to read "Tempt me at twilight" at home in the evenings, curled up in my reading corner under a warm blanket :) and in the meantime I will be reading "On this ice" on my way to and from work, bcause I have that ARC as an e-book :) we will see how that will work out :) and who knows, maybe I'll sometimes repeat the situation... :) reading a new book AND re-reading something I truly love at the same time :) we will see how this particular experiment will turn out :)

Ok, last but definitely not least... me and J, my awesome sister, are going to see BRUNO MARS live in concert next year!!! :) can you tell how excited I am? ;) when I saw the info about it, I immediately sent the link to J, so we could freak out properly together :) fortunately I saw this two days before the tickets were available to buy, so I could prepare everything :) apparently it wasn't enough :) why, you ask? oh I'll tell you... I've never cursed so much in my entire life than I did on friday while buying the tickets... *sighs* not only the site kept frozing, I had troubles paying for the tickets, and in the end got a message that something went wrong, but there is still a chance that the purchase will go through soon, so I should just keep checking and if it won't happen, contact the people responsible for the site... *sighs* I am not gonna tell you everything that happened, because I don't want to get angry again, instead I will just concentrate on the positive outcome :) I got the confirmation about the tickets :) and that's the only thing that matters :) so me and J are already counting down the days to the concert, even though it's gonna happen at the end of may next year :) and our seats are not bad at all :) either way, we are planning on having a great time, singing and screaming so loud that I will probably lose my voice for a few days afterwards... #NoRegrets ;)

Ok, that's a wrap people :) hope you enjoyed my #RandomRamblings :) as always, I love talking with you guys, so if you feel like it, be sure to leave a comment here, on my Facebook page or Goodreads account, cause I'm there pretty much every day :) I also have Twitter and Instagram accounts but they are still work in progress... ;) have a lovely week :)

Review: "Archangel's heart" by Nalini Singh

Author: Nalini Singh
Book 9 in series Guild hunter
Main characters: Raphael and Elena

I’ve came across a variety of reviews about this newest installment in Guild hunter series… some loved it, some said it was different than the rest of the books and / or slow-paced… we all have the right to our own opinions, and mine is… I really loved it ;) although it’s going to be pretty hard to tell you exactly why I feel that way ;) as always with new books in an on-going series that needs to be read in order, it’s extremely hard to write a spoiler-free review for people who haven’t read the series… so I decided to do a small paragraph about this series in general and why you should absolutely give it a try if you haven’t before, and then I will get to the part including spoilers from previous stories… mind you, no spoilers from this new book, but I will definitely mention things that happenned in previous stories ;) so you’ve been warned ;)

Ok, so about this series in general… ;) you may or may not know this yet, but I am a huge Nalini’s fan in general ;) I absolutely adore her writing style and the way she creates worlds, characters and all sorts of connections between them ;) this particular series can be counted as a sort of urban fantasy / paranormal one ;) what with all the angels, archangels, vampires and such existing in an alternate version of our reality ;) it’s definitely a series that I highly recommend you read all the books in order, because even though majority of them revolves around a different couples, with the exception of Raphael and Elena, who are the center of a few books, there are a lot of things and events that span over a few books and have consequences in even more… so it’s definitely better to follow the plot as the author intended it ;) it’s hard to tell you only a bit more about these books without some big spoilers or without me talking your ears off for a few days, because it’s definitely layered and complex… so what I will say is that I highly recommend you to try it ;)

Ok, so that concludes our spoiler-free-for-people-who-have-not-read-this-series portion of my review ;) so all of you should now avert your eyes, if you don’t want to know anything else ;) to the rest of you who are up to speed, or who just don’t care if you’ll be spoiled, read on ;) seriously people LAST WARNING, SPOILERS AHEAD, but not about this book, only all the previous ones ;) ok, so definitely the big surprise was right at the beginning, when I found out that we picked up two years after the end of the last book… ;) the next one, was that the actual book took place over the span of only a few days… but trust me… A LOT has happened during those few days… ;) it’s another installment revolving around Raphael, archangel of New York and his consort, Elena and even though I am sooo looking forward to other characters getting their happy endings, I can’t help but adore this couple ;) so since it’s been two years, and during this time Lijuan was not seen by anyone, all the archangels from the Cadre are summoned by the Luminata… a mysterious and never before seen group that… well… there’s definitely something going on there… ;) so Raphael, along with Elena and Aodhan travel to Lumia, their territory, and… damn… sooooo many thing happened there ;) you know, now that I think of it… that’s pretty much everything I can tell you, without actually spoiling some pretty big revelations ;) so how about I’ll jump into my actual thoughts and feelings about this book ;)

I know that some people didn’t like this story, but I loved it… which actually surprised me a bit ;) yes, the overall vibe was a bit different, but I liked it ;) I adored seeing Raphael and Elena being all power couple and everything, as well as those little and vulnerable scenes just between them… ;) I adored getting to know a bit more about certain characters that appeared before ;) not to mention how much I looooooved the creepy atmosphere and secrets in Lumia… because damn… you have no idea what you’ll discover there… trust me… ;) I am a huge fan of Nalini’s writing style in general, and I always adore how she is able to introduce new characters so far into her series, that I can’t help but fall in love with from the moment I meet them and absolutely can’t wait to see more of them ;) that truly is a gift ;) even though I want to say soooooo much more about what happens in this installment and what we discover about Elena’s family for example… I will restrain myself ;) because I absolutely refuse to ruin all those surprises for you ;) so hopefully I convinced you to give this fantastic book, or series if you are new to it, a try ;) trust me, it will be worth it ;)

Review: "Wild embrace" by Nalini Singh

Author: Nalini Singh
Book 15,5 in series Psy-changeling
Main characters: well, about that... ;)

I have so many great things to say about this book… ;) but I need to start with a more personal confession… ;) this was the first book in a really long time… and I mean not weeks or months, but actually years… when I read a paper version of a book… ;) long story short, e-books are just easier for me to get, plus all the ARCs and free copies of books I get from publishers and authors are also in e-book format… so I forgot how much I adore reading a book that I can actually hold in my hands, and turn pages… *sighs happily* ;) you may think that a lot of my joy about this book comes from that fact, but that’s only partially true ;) yes, it definitely added to my experience that I was able to read paper edition of this anthology, but I would love it just as much in e-book format ;) so after that little explanation let me tell you more about these stories ;)

Ok, I need to start with a few words about this book and the world it’s set it in general ;) it’s the newest installment in Psy-changeling series and since I am a big fan of it, I am up to speed on all other books in it, so it’s hard to say if it can be read as a standalone… ;) although to be honest, I think it can ;) yes, all sorts of little scenes and interactions will definitely have much more meaning if you know the people and the bigger picture BUT even if you are brand new to this series, you will get enough explanations along the way to follow all the stories ;) if I would start talking and trying to explain all the nuances of the world we would be here all day… #NoJoke ;) it’s one of my favourite series of all time for many reasons, but for the purpose of this review I will say only this: Psy-changeling series is set in an alternate version of our world, a bit in the future and we have three main groups of characters… psy, who are mentally gifted, but their gifts came with a price… we have changelings, who are all sorts of shape-shifters and my personal favourite group to read about ;) and of course humans, the most regular and usual of all of them… each book in this series revolves around a different couple, but there are all sorts of bigger stories unfolding over the span of a few or more books, so I highly recommend you to read the full lenght novels in order ;) but novellas in this series, not only these few, but all others she wrote as well, are a great way of checking out if this series is something for you ;) my lovely sister J read it before me, and she recommended me a particular reading order ;) I’m gonna review all four stories in the order they appear in the book, but you can read them however you like ;) just like I did ;) so let’s begin ;) and don’t worry, as always, I won’t spoil you anything, I’ll just share some general things about each of the story and my feelings about it ;) I’m going to be deliberately vague, because since all the stories aren’t that long, I want to leave as many surprises about them as I can ;)

The first story, „Echo of silence” is actually the second one I read ;) and it was also my second favourite out of the four ;) this subtle and slow-building connection between a psy man and a human woman was really beautiful… the hero of this novella was mentioned before in this series, but we knew very little about him… to be honest, I did not expect to love this story as much as I did ;) it was full of these little gestures and words that hid much more meaning than what you might think at first… ;) and I absolutely loved it ;)

„Dorian” was the second story in the book, but the first one I read… ;) it’s hard to even call it a novella, it’s more of a short story, showing us glimpses into different moments in life of Dorian, a character who already got his own full lenght story ;) so in this case his story does contain some pretty big spoilers about that full lenght book… to be honest, I’m surprised by how much I enjoyed these few chapters… it was truly great to see all those characters that I already know and love when they were much younger… ;)

„Partners in persuasion” was actually the very last novella I read and for a very good reason ;) my sister claimed it will be my absolute favourite one out of all of them and she was totally right ;) I loved it ;) the story of a dominant female leopard and a submissive male wolf on paper sounds impossible ;) two different packs and two different personalities… I was wondering how Nalini will pull this off… ;) I should have known to just trust her… ;) because this novella, full of hilarious and sexy moments, as well as surprisingly emotional and vulnerable ones was a delight to read ;) this particular couple immediately landed very high on my favourite list from this series ;) I will definitely be coming back to them, especially if I will need a taste of a series, without having the time to read a full lenght book ;)

Last but not least, is the fourth novella, „Flirtation of fate” that I read as my third story from this book… originally I was the most curious about it, because Gem and Kenji appeared on quite a few occasions throughout this series and you could see that there’s definitely something there, brewing under the surface… ;) so when I learned we will finally get more in this anthology, I was very happy ;) in the end, it turned out that their story was… a bit different than what I expected… let me explain ;) theirs is the longest novella in the book, but actually about a half of it is a murder investigation… dun dun duuuunnnn… ;) sorry, this moment needed a dramatic music theme ;) I think I would love this story more, if the romance part was bigger ;) don’t get me wrong, I really liked it, it’s just… I wanted a bit more ;)

All in all I had sooo much fun reading this book ;) Nalini truly is one of the best world builders amongst the authors… she is able to create all sorts of interactions and connections between sometimes surprising characters and wove those people into one world that changes constantly… and to top all of that, when you re-read her books, you always discover some small gems showing how many things she is aware of that will happen many books before the actual situation plays out ;) and I absolutely love that ;) because of that very reason, her series are always fantastic reads ;) Psy-changeling is actually my favourite of hers ;) don’t get me wrong, I love all others, but this one… this one has a very special place in my heart ;) hopefully I convinced you guys to give this book and this series in general a try, because if you haven’t read it yet, you have no idea how badly you are missing out on some phenomenal writing style and characters that will stay with you for a very long time after you finish the book… ;)

XOXO

Random ramblings of a bookworm ;) #39

Super tiny book haul
THAT trailer
And
My every friday morning

Hello hello my awesome people :) how are you all feeling at the beginning of yet another week? I hope you all can find at least one reason to smile... ;) I have a super quick post for you today, but filled with all sorts of amazing stuff ;) and today we are gonna once again embrace the chaos and forget about the order of those headlines... ;)

Because I absolutely need to start with the end... :) I have recently found a pic... well I re-found it, because originally I discovered it a few months ago... but now it works even more perfectly :) ok, are you ready? this... this is what my every friday morning looks like... :)

#NoJoke :) this is EXACTLY how I look like on friday mornings... :) ever since I started a full time job that starts at 7 AM my mornings are... well... it's been an adjustment ;) let's leave it at that :) but the first few days each week aren't that horrible :) I just get up and power through my desire to sleep more... ;) but fridays... man oh man... fridays are the worst... I swear, my will power and the fact that I know I'm gonna be able to sleep in the next day are the only things that allow me to get up... and by get up I mean rise-up-like-zombie-slash-mummy-from-the-grave-and-try-to-resemble-a-hman-being-for-the-day :) do you guys feel like this or is it just me? ;)

Another thing I wanted to share with you today is a super tiny book haul... and by tiny, I mean I have just one book to show you :) it's the one I mentioned in my book haul last week, when I thought it would still be weeks before it would get to me... honestly, if I knew it would get here so fast, I would just wait one more week and haul all my new books together... :) but maybe it's actually a good thing that this book will get all the spotlight, because "Beard science" by Penny Reid was absolutely fantastic :) I read the ARC of it in an e-book format, and after finishing it I immediately knew I'll need the paper version on my shelf ASAP :) it's definitely one of the best books I read... like ever :) I normally don't do it, but if you missed it before, I'll leave the link to my full review right -> here <- :) I just need everyone to read this amazing gem :) I'm gonna share a pic of the book with you, but not the whole shelf, because that one book don't make much of a difference from the pic from last week :) next haul I'll be doing will be after christmas, because I was banned from buying books by my sister :) so I'm gonna go on a binge after that ;)

Last but definitely not least, we have got to talk about that trailer... you know... the first full lenght trailer to what is probably my most highly anticipated movie of next year... "Beauty and the beast" *squeels with excitement* there are no words that can describe my love for this story so I'm not even gonna try... ;) I'm sure you all have seen it by now, but if somehow you missed it, join me in watching it yet again... how many times I saw this already, you ask? :) yeah... I lost count long ago... #NoShame #NoRegrets :)

Ok, that's a wrap people :) I hope you enjoyed this short post :) I love to connect and talk to you all, so be sure to leave a comment here, on my Facebook page or Goodreads account :) I'm there every day :) I also have Twitter and Instagram accounts but it's still work in progress... :) I'm slowly getting better with them, but... I'm gonna get there eventually ;)

Review: "Darkchylde" by R. Queen

Author: R. Queen
Title: "Darkchylde"
Book 1 in series The Ariel Chylde Saga
Main character: Ariel Chylde

I got the ARC of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review and let me tell you... it was like nothing I've read before... and quite honestly, not what I expected... :) I finished it some time ago and I still have troubles getting all my thoughts together and trying to write something about it... especially since I feel I need to be really vague when it comes to details about the actual story and characters, because this book truly surprised me many times and I don't want to ruin those surprises for you... so let me tell you a bit about the main character and the premise of the book and then I will share with you some of my none-spoilery thoughts and feelings after finishing it :)

The main character of this book is Ariel... the majority of the story is told from her perspective, although we do get chapters from other people as well :) she is... I want to say a senior in high school, but I didn't write that particular detail down so I'm not 100 % sure... but back to more important details... she is... well... the situation about her is quite complicated, especially since I don't want to spoil you the most important things... so let me just say, that she's fighting some very horrible nightmares... is there more to this situation...? I'm not gonna answer that :) what I CAN tell you is that there is definitely more to know about Ariel and her past... but we get those answers further in the book so no spoilers from me :) soooo... to be honest, that is all I can tell you about her and the premise of the story :) I mean, I probably could tell you a little detail or two more, but to be honest, I really think it's best to get into the book knowing as little as possible :) so now let me tell you about all my feelings about it :)

Ok, so to be completely honest, if I would knew before what this book is actually about, I probably wouldn't read it... and here's why :) it reads like a horror movie... and I mean that as a compliment :) the writing style pulls you in from the very beginning and was the main reason why I actually finished this book :) you may not know this about me, but I really don't like horror movies... I can't even watch trailers for them, because my imagination is to vivid and I can't sleep afterwards... so imagine what thoughts went through my head when I started reading this book and getting to know what was really going on in it... we are thrown straight into action, basically without any explanation whatsoever... and pretty much throughout the first half of the book I was all like "what the WHAT is going on?!?" :) but then, the answers started appearing... and I was not happy with that situation as well... why? oh I'll tell you :) it was damn scary, that's why :) like I said before, the writing style was truly phenomenal in this story... vivid and descriptive, it made me feel like I was watching a movie... and that was also what made me read this book for quite some time... because the story got so creepy and scary at times, that I couldn't read it at night... I had to wait for the time when I could finish this book during the day... #TrueStory :) I definitely don't regret reading it, after all I made a conscious decision to actually finish the book, but I blame the fantastic writing style for that ;) the story itself was full of surprising turns of events, and that's mainly why I don't want to say anything else about it... so if you are looking for a different book... a book that will definitely creep you out and make your imagination run wild... then definitely give this one a try... :)

Review: "Sexy lies and rock & roll" by Sawyer Bennett

Standalone
Main characters: Evan Scott and Emma Peterson

I got an ARC of this story from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review and it is yet another proof of how much I love Sawyer Bennett's writing style :) because another one of her books and I love the way she creates those characters and interactions between them :) even if some of the things frustrated me a bit... and trust me, there were parts of this book that drove me a bit crazy... ;) but all in all I very much enjoyed it :) so let me tell you a bit more about this standalone contemporary romance :)

So I'm gonna start with our main couple... :) Evan is an up-and-coming music star... he started as an indie artist who quickly got more popular than he expected :) he's definitely a more wild and creative type ;) Emma on the other hand is working as a lawyer in his aunt's firm and loves to dive into the tiny details of contracts... :) so we absolutely have the opposites-attract type of a situation... ;) they meet in quite an unexpected way, but I won't spoil you about it ;) but let me just say, that they both left an impression on one another... so when a bit later Evan offers her an opportunity to work for him that is connected to what she thinks as a dream come true when it comes to her future in law, she decides to accept :) and I know I'm being vague, but the synopsis of the book is also vague and I don't want to say too much, just so you can be as surprised in certain moments as I was :) theirs is definitely a... how to name it best... ? :) it'a hard to choose just one adjective to describe their relationship... the sparks are definitely there... and I mean damn... *fans herself* ;) the book is absolutely hot :) but there are also a lot of surprisingly sweet and vulnerable moments between them as well :) throughout the book we get to see all sorts of unexpected qualities in both of them that we didn't think were there :) and I love that in Sawyer's books... that her characters are never just these one dimensional people... that there are always layers in them and we get to discover all of that as we read the story :) even if some of the things we see aren't exactly what we wanted to see... because I certainly had some troubles with Emma... but I will get to that a bit later :)

As for the secondary characters... I certainly have a few I absolutely loved :) and I have to start with Sirius... Emma's dog :) you may or may not know this abut me yet, but I am a huge dog person :) so every time there is one in a book, I am very happy :) but when it comes to actual people from the book, I want to mention to you two of them :) worry not, there were a lot of others, but I can't share some of them, because of spoilers and I want to leave out a few others, just so you can discover for yourselves along the way which one of them are important :) but the two I want to mention is Red and Midge :) Red is actually a smaller character, the driver of the tour bus for Evan, but I loved him sooooo much, that I just had to tell you about him, just so you can keep your eyes open for scenes with him :) and Midge is Evan's aunt and Emma's boss :) we definitely get to know more about her in the second half of the book, so I won't say too much, but I really liked her character :) again, Sawyer Bennett does a great job with creating those interesting secondary characters that add so much to the overall story... :)

All in all I gave this book 4 stars :) like I mentioned before, there were definitely things that annoyed me... but since the details of what exactly frustrated me are definitely spoiler-ish, let me just say that I'm talking about Emma's certain reactions for some things that happen along the way... again, I have to be vague, so forgive me for the lack of details... let's just say that some of her reactions were rushed, and even though later she started to realize that maybe she was in the wrong, she was too stubborn to do anything about it... and that is one of the reasons why I felt that the ending was a bit rushed as well... I would love for the resolution to last a few more chapters... but don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the story :) it was written in 2 POVs, which means we got to see inside both of our main characters heads :) and I am always a fan of that :) not to mention that the writing style in general was truly fantastic :) so even though there were parts that I wasn't a fan of, I still recommend you to give this book a try :)

Random ramblings of a bookworm ;) #38

Music recommendation
First snow
And
That delayed book haul I promised you earlier

Welcome my awesome people to another edition of my #RandomRamblings post :) this one will include all sorts of book-ish and none-book-ish things, but... that happens every week, so what else is new? ;) and once more we are gonna embrace the chaos, because even though my life gets more organized every week... little by little, but still, it counts :) chaos is definitely still a good freind of mine ;) and we can't control everything either way, soooo... let's just dive into it :)

I will start in the middle of those headlines :) you guys... we got first snow this week :) well, technically since you will be reading this on monday, it was last week, but you get what I mean :) it was only a bit, but still... :) if you haven't figured it out yet, I am definitely more of a winter than summer person... I love to curl up under a blanket with hot coffee and a good book, and just disappear into a story... *sighs dreamily* :) plus, when it comes to winter, there is always one more blanket that you can use to warm yourself, but when it's a heatwave in summer, there's only so much you can take off... ;) so count me as a #WinterGirl :)

Now let's get to the book haul :) because I have actually eleven books to share with you :) I know, I know... eleven is quite a lot, but it's actually all the books I bought in the last few weeks and I won't be getting any more this year :) I mean, technically, I have one more that's on the way to me right now, but it might be a few weeks till it gets here, so I'm doing my book haul now :) the next book-buying-binge will happen after christmas, so let us enjoy all the lovely books on my shelf today :) so the first one I want to mention is the one I am currently reading :) the newest installment in Guild hunter series by Nalini Singh, one of my all time favourite authors :) although there is a slight chance that I will finish it by the time you will read this, but... oh well :) I am just a huge fan of her writing style, and since recenty I realized how much I missed reading actual paper books, there are quite a few books I haven't read in this book haul :) and this is one of them :) it's tricky for me to buy books I haven't read, because I don't like surprises... as in, if I don't know the author, or I'm not sure I will like the book, I won't waste my money and buy it... I'd rather check it out from the library first, or receive it as a blogger and just check it out earlier, before I decide I need it... but there are exceptions to my not-buing-unread-books rule :) and I will share some of those exceptions here today with you :) for example, I absolutely love Nalini's writing style... I read all sorts of her books, and adored every one of them :) so I decided to buy "Archangel's heart" just so I can have the pleasure of reading an actual paper copy of the story :) and it is awesome :)

The second book I want to share with you is actually also written by Nalini :) it's part of her Psy-changeling series :) "Heart of obsidian" revolves around my probably second favourite couple in these stories :) I'm not gonna share their names here, because if you are new to this series, it's book #12 and the names might be considered a spoiler for some of you :) and if you know it, I don't have to introduce the hero and heroine to you... :) I am more than happy to have this gem on my shelf :)

The next two books I want to share is actually a series co-written by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy :) I think some of you know already what I'm talking about... ;) I am a huge fan of those ladies individually, but I haven't read this particular collaboration before... and it's one of those exceptions I mentioned before :) this time, it was my sister who said I should get them, because I will definitely love them, and since J and me have quite similar book taste, I trust her :) plus, like I mentioned before, I adore both of those authors writing styles, so I can only imagine how fantastic will be their collaboration... :)

The next series I want to show you is Elements by Brittainy C. Cherry... although this series consists of total standalone stories that are only connected by the elements of nature (air, fire, water and earth) :) I actually read the first one, but not the other two yet... but since I was absolutely mesmerized by the truly phenomenal writing style of this author, and my sister J already read the second book and said it was even better than the first, I just knew I needed them on my shelf :) I am saving them for a day when I'm ready to be emotional, because Brittainy C. Cherry is truly a master at making me cry like a baby... and breaking my heart... but also putting it back together in the most beautiful way... *sighs* I can't wait :)

The last four books I want to share with you today is actually four out of a five-books series :) The Hathaways by Lisa Kleypas is one of my all time favourite series ever :) these historical romances are brilliantly written and just oh... so... phenomenal... :) and don't worry, I'm hauling only four of them, because I bought book #3 before, so now I have the entire set :) and I couldn't be more happy about it :)

All in all I am really loving how my lovely book shelf is looking these days... :) it's getting bigger and bigger each month :) and slowly I will be getting all the books I love... :) it definitely will take A LOT of time, because let's be honest... I had to give myself a limit of how much money I can spend on books each month, because when it comes to them.. I have no will power and I WOULD spend everything to buy more and more books... ;) but I will get there eventually ;) in the meantime... look at my pretty shelf :)

Last but not least, I want to share with you guys a great music theme... I call it my fearless-warrior theme :) I heard it first in "Wonder woman" trailer and now every time I need to get into a right mood and feel like I can kick some ass I listen to it ;) so here is the actual music theme :)

And here is the trailer with that music... seriously guys, it gives me chills every time... :) the more I watch it and listen to the song, the more I am getting excited to watch the actual movie... hopefully it won't end up disappointing me :)

Ok, that's a wrap people :) I had so much fun writing this #RandomRamblings post for you guys :) as always, I love to interact with you, so if you want, feel free to leave a comment here, on my Facebook page or Goodreads account, cause I am there every day :) I also have Twitter and Instagram accounts, but they are definitely not my priority when it comes to social media... just saying ;)

Blog tour + Giveaway + Review: "Trusting fate" by Tamra Lassiter

Book 5 in series Role of fate
Main characters: Brady Richardson and Vivienne "Viv" Prescott

Synopsis

Fate brought this unlikely pair together...but only trust will make them one.

An heiress on the run crashes at the feet of a small-town restauranteur. He wants her to stay, but not while she's keeping secrets. She longs to give him her heart, but other men wanted only her money and influence. Will they walk away, or trust that this time fate has them right where they need to be?

Vivienne Prescott is on the run from the life her grandmother wants to force her into—the right marriage, being seen in the right places with the right people. That life feels empty now that the rest of her family is gone. When the heiress finds herself in a small Virginia town, surrounded by the handsome, kind Brady and his warm and loving family, she wants to stay. Has fate given her the man with whom she can finally be herself?

Brady Richardson can't believe it when a lovely stranger crashes her motorcycle almost on the front steps of his busy restaurant. When she wants to stay and work there, he's thrilled at the chance to get to know her. But who is the mysterious stranger tailing her, and why won't Viv answer his questions about her life? He's been burned before, and he's not about to trust a woman who won't give up her secrets.

I got the ARC of this lovely story in exchange for an honest review :) and I really enjoyed it :) definitely don't be discouraged if you haven't read the previous stories in this series, because it can work perfectly well as a standalone :) I read just one other of the four that came before this one, and truth be told, I don't remember much details from it ;) and I still loved this story :) so let me tell you a bit more about this lovely contemporary romance :)

Viv is an heiress on a journey to find herself... she's been on the road for the last few months, trying to figure out what exactly it is that she wants from life, before she has to get home and back to the life she was living so far, under a watchful eye of her grandmother... everything changes when she crashes into Brady's life... literally ;) she crashes her motorcycle and almost gets into an accident with Brady's mom, right outside his restaurant... don't worry, nothing terrible happens :) she was lucky... in more ways than one :) because even though her adventures in that little town started off not so well, it gave her an opportunity to witness all sorts of good in people :) and she is not used to that :) to people being nice and helpful and just generally kind to her without any hidden agenda... there is also definitely a spark between her and Brady from the moment they met, but both of them are a little aprehensive about moving forward with it... mainly because she's suppose to move on in a day or two... it changs quickly, and she decides to stay for a few weeks :) but still, things move a bit on the slow side between them :) I don't want to say too much about it, because the story is not very long and all those little scenes are so cute that I want them to be a surprise for you just as they were for me :)

When it comes to the secondary characters, there were so many wonderful ones in this story :) like I mentioned before, even if you are brand new to this series, you will enjoy reading this story, but I can assure you... all the scenes including couples that already got their books will absolutely make you curious to read more about them :) so you can start whenever and then just go back and read all other books in this charming series :) that is also why I don't want to get into any more details about them :) because if you already know the series, it will be a lovely addition to see some of your favourite people make an appearance... :) and if you are brand new, or don't remember anyone, like yours truly ;) I want to leave the discovery who is important and how amazing they all really are for you while you will be reading it :)

The book is written in two perspectives, which you should know by now is only like my favourite writing style in novels :) the ability to get inside the minds of both our main characters is always something I enjoy in stories :) not to mention that it's the second book I've read, written by the lovely Tamra Lassiter and it only confirmed my previous feelings, that I really like her writing style :) the second book I read in this series also proved, how much I love stories set in small towns :) especially if they are done such amazingly as this one :) filled with lovely characters and charming stories, it's one of those feel-good books... the one that is best to read when you curl up under a blanket with something hot to drink... I'll leave the choice of the beverage to you ;) and just disappear for a few hours into the beautiful town created by this author... :) honestly, I would love to be able to at least visit it for a few days... :) and get to know all the awesome people I have been reading about :) so definitely give this beautiful series a try :)

a Rafflecopter giveaway About the author:

I live outside Washington, D.C. with my wonderfully supportive husband and two daughters, one of which is approaching her teenage years. Help us all! If that isn’t enough, we have a Great Dane and an English Bulldog to keep us on our toes. It’s crazy around here, and I love every minute of it!

Writing is my third career. I didn’t set out to be a writer, it was just meant to be. My Mechanical Engineering degree from Virginia Tech prepared me well for my first career as an Engineer/Program Manager. My second career was in Human Resources. Long story, but I figured it out. I believe the best start for a writing career is to be a reader first, and I’ve been an avid reader my whole life. I’ve loved to read ever since I picked up my first Nancy Drew mystery in the fourth grade. Now, I love reading just about everything, but I don’t read sad books. I don’t watch sad movies either for that matter, no matter how many awards they’ve won. Life’s too short, and who needs all that strife to bring us down?

Many of my words have been penned late into the evening, which explains why I’ve never viewed whatever television show you recommend to me. I would, however, love to hear your recommendations for a great read!

Random ramblings of a bookworm ;) #37

A small delay of the book haul
Halloween
And
Epic music recommendation

Hello my lovely people :) are you ready for another edition of my #RandomRamblings post? :) I have for you quick things to share so how about we just get straight into it :) especially since I have all sorts of great plans with my sister J for later and then there's this really good book about a rock star that is calling my name, soooo... you guys understand, right? ;)

I'm gonna go without the order of the headlines today, and that means starting straight in the middle :) I went to a Halloween costume party last week :) it was a small gathering organized by my sister's best friend but we all had to go dressed as someone :) at first I wasn't really sure about going, but then J convinced me and I caved ;) as usual, I have to say... she has some sort of weird super power over me when it comes to those sort of things... ;) I came dressed as a mime and actually had a lot of fun :) I want to show you guys a pic of me :) especially since I have make up all over my face and since my own family had troubles recognizing me in pictures I think my privacy is safe even if I show you a pic of me ;) so here it is :)

Now let's go back to the beginning of those headlines :) original plan was for me to do a book haul this week :) I had all seven books ready and everything, but then it turned out that another four books that I ordered will be here in a matter of a day or two sooooo... I decided to wait and do my book haul next week with all the awesomeness in one place :) well, technically I have one more on the way, but it will be a few weeks before it will came here, so I won't be waiting for that one... especially since it's so great, that it deserves the spotlight all for itself :)

And last but definitely not least, I want to share with you guys some amazing music recommendations :) usually I am not the biggest fan of covers of songs, unless they are done in a really special way... :) but recently I discovered a group that does them just... ugh... epic is really the best way to describe them... :) although hauntingly beautiful works as well :) they are called Hidden Citizens and I have three of their covers for you today :) originally I planned to show you just one, but I couldn't decide, so all three it is ;) you're welcome :)

Ok, that's a wrap people :) hope you enjoyed this short but fun #RandomRamblings post :) as always, I love to connect with you, so be sure to leave a comment here, on my Facebook page or Goodreads account, cause I am there every day :) I have also Twitter and Instagram accounts, but let's be honest, it's still work in progress ;)

Review: "90 days" by J. L. Leslie

Author: J. L. Leslie
Title: "90 days"
Book 3 in series Morgan family
Main characters: Rhys Morgan and Anniston Stone

I got an ARC of this book from the lovely author herself in exchange for an honest review :) and I have to say, that I am very conflicted right now people... :) and torn... but I will get to the more detailed reasons why is that in a moment :) right now let me say, that even though it's book #3 in a series, it works perfectly well as a standalone :) yes, the characters from previous stories do appear in this one as well, but you get all the necessary informations to know who's who ;) now that we have this little explanation out of the way, let me tell you a bit more about the book :)

And it's not gonna be easy... mainly because even though the book can be read as a standalone, the story itself was... well... it's actually really hard to tell you anything without some spoilers... so instead of ruining you the big stuff, I will share just some very little ones, so you can know what to be prepared for, going into this book :) if you already read the previous two installments in this series, you know both Rhys and Anniston :) but worry not if you haven't :) Anniston is a student and Rhys is a few years older than her very troubled guy... and by that I mean that he's an addict... and not an addict in recovery... nope, still using... I am putting it here as a warning, because I know that not everyone likes those types of stories... I am seriously sitting here and thinking really hard what else I can say to you, that won't spoil you something surprising and / or important from the book and honestly? that's pretty much everything I CAN say :) I feel like the best experience you can get from this book, is to go into it knowing nothing more... trust me, every detail I want to tell you, I immediately have to stop myself, because I feel like it would spoil you something I think you should discover for yourselves... so how about you'll forgive me for the lack of details, and instead let me tell you all about my thoughts and feelings about this story... :)

First of all, I feel the need to defend my 3,5 stars rating right now :) don't get me wrong, I absolutely love J. L. Leslie and her writing style :) after all, I keep reading her books ;) but this particular one, was a bit too dark for me... and that is only based on my personal preferences as a reader... to be honest, it's a recurring theme in this trilogy... all the stories have darker themes than the ones I usually read... again, it's not like I only read candy-ish and fluffy romances, but... ;) I like them a little lighter than this one ;) the story is written in 2 points of view, and that's always a plus for me in books :) the ability to see inside the minds of both our main characters, and how they react to certain events :) and J. L. is really good at it... my heart was definitely breaking several times during this story... *sighs heavily* again, it was a pretty dark book, at least for me BUT I really loved the way it was written... I would probably enjoy it more if it was a bit longer... especially near the ending I would love to get a few more chapters showing all those changes, before that final resolution... I know I'm being vague, but I can't be any more specific without spoilers ;) so pleae, definitely don't be discouraged by the fact that I didn't completely loved it from trying it out :) trust me, I saw lots of amazing reviews for this story full of awesome things to say about it and those characters :) and that's what I love most about books :) we all read the same story, and yet it is always different for all of us... we all see it coloured with our preferences and perspectives... I just hope that my humble review will add something to help you make the decision whether to read it or not :)

XOXO
