Books I can't wait to get my hands on ;) september edition

Hello there my awesome people... can you believe that august is ending already? ;) how is that possible, it was only the beginning like a couple of days ago... oh how the time flies by... and before you know it, it’s this time of the month again when I share with you guys some of my highly anticipated books from the upcoming month ;) today I have for you five amazing stories... and I am lucky enough that I got my hands on two of them already ;) ARCs are definitely one of the biggest perks of being a book blogger ;) don’t be fooled by the fact that I have covers for only four of those books, because that’s all that was available at the time I’m writing this post ;) ok, so are you ready for all the awesomeness coming your way? ;) ok, let me start ;)

It was not easy to pick just one book I’m most excited about, so just assume that the five I’m mentioning are in random order ;) but since I need to start somewhere, why not do it with „The goal” by Elle Kennedy, book #4 in her Off-campus series ;) *sighs happily* I cannot wait to read about this particular couple... I’m not gonna say any names just in case you are new to this series and don’t want to be spoiled... and if you ARE new, then what are you waiting for?!? ;) this is a phenomenal new adult sports themed romance series that will blow your mind... ;) it’s hilarious, sexy and emotional all in one... you can find my reviews for all previous books in this series on my blog ;)

Ok, now I’m gonna brag... well, not really brag, it’s more of a sharing-my-joy type of situations ;) because this next book I’m gonna tell you all about, I got the ARC from the lovely author herself ;) and I couldn’t be more excited about it, because Sarina Bowen is one of my most beloved authors... her books are always the perfect mix of serious topics, with humor and romance to balance everything out... and her newest book is „Rookie move”, the beginning of her brand new series Brooklyn Bruisers ;) it’s gonna be a sports themed romance about my favourite kind of athlete to read about, hockey player... *sighs dreamily* ;) it’s also a spin-off of her The ivy years series... I’m not sure if that’s true about all the books, but the hero of „Rookie move” is the brother of the hero from „The fifteenth minute”... which is a shame, because that is the only book in that series that I haven’t read yet ;) but I’m not worried, I’m sure it will work perfectly well even without my knowledge ;)

Another book that I want to mention to you is „The silent waters” by Brittainy C. Cherry ;) technically it’s book #3 in her Elements series, but all books in it are standalones, and the only way they are connected to each other is the fact that each of them sort of represents one of the four elements (air, fire, water and earth) ;) I only read the first one, and absolutely loved it... my sister already read the second one as well, and we can both tell you that her books are... just amazing... hauntingly beautiful writing style of those one of a kind contemporary romances will blow you away... and I have a feeling that this new installment will be just the same... an emotional journey that will break your heart, before putting it all back together to give you that beautiful ending... *sighs* I can’t wait ;)

The second book that I already have the ARC of is „Locked” co-written by Ella Frank and Brooke Blaine, sequel in the PresLocke series ;) it’s an MM contemporary romance and the second book about the same couple... they need to be read in order, but trust me... it’s not gonna be a chore... ;) that first part was absolutely amazing... hilarious, hot and surprisingly emotional... I was hoping that this second part will actually be the conclusion to the story, but I read somewhere that there will be one more book... ;) but since I haven’t read it yet, I’m not sure if that’s true ;) if it is, on the one hand it’s good, because the more awesomeness the better, but on the other hand I need to know how it ends, so the wait might just be too much ;)

The last book I want to mention to you guys, but definitely not the worst of them, trust me, the order is absolutely random ;) is „Apprentice in death” by J. D. Robb (which is a pseudonim for Nora Roberts) the newest installment in her In death series about a New York detective Eve Dallas ;) do you remember a few months ago when I was telling you that I plan to catch up on the few books I was behind in this series before the new book comes out? yeah… good times ;) that of course did not happen, but I love these books so much that of course I needed to let you know that a new one is coming out ;) each of those books can be read as standalones, because they concentrate on solving different cases, but I would recommend you to read them in order to see how the relationships and connections between different characters change with time ;) because those little scenes are often one of my favourite ones ;)

PS I just realized how abs-centric the covers this month are... coincidence? I think not... ;)

Release blitz + Giveaway + Review: "When stars collide" by Micalea Smeltzer

Book 2 in series Light in the dark
Main characters: Xander Kincaid and Thea Montgomery

We were like two stars orbiting each other—dancing around the possibility that one day we might collide. When we finally did, we opened up a black hole, obliterating everything around us. No one would be the same.
Least of all, us.

Waking up in Vegas married to the guy of your dreams sounds like a good thing, right? Not when you’re Thea Montgomery and said guy is your brother’s best friend.

Thea and Xander have always avoided the connection between them because her brother would never approve. Now, they’re married— the strongest bond you can have as a couple—and they’re not even a real couple…unless they want to be.

Thea wants an annulment immediately, but Xander’s waited too long to see her become his and he won’t let her go easily.

If she wants a divorce, fine, but he wants the summer to convince her that he’s the one. If at the end of the summer she still wants to end their marriage he’ll sign the papers, but until then…

All is not fair in love and war.

Book trailer

I got my hands on the ARC of this absolutely amazing book and immediately fell in love with it... ;) it's a second book in a series, and I think it’s pretty connected to the events and characters from that first story, but from the perspective of a person who read it as a complete standalone, it works just fine :) even better than just fine based on how much I loved it ;) although we are thrown right in the middle of action, when our main couple wakes up in Vegas after a pretty wild night and they discover that they got married... ;) but I am getting a bit ahead of myself, so let me back up for a second and start by telling you a bit more about our couple first ;)

Sooooo... Thea and Xander ;) *sighs happily* I loved them both equally, which is not as common occurence as you might think... ;) usually one part of the main couple is more annoying, or quite the opposite, so swoonworthy that I forget my name ;) but this time both of them were truly fantastic and I cannot pick my favourite ;) we have Thea, a sassy and hilarious student who made me smile all the time… I could not believe some of the things that left her mouth ;) I loved that she wasn’t just a one dimensional person... yeah, she could be sassy and fun, be she also had moments when she acted shy and vulnerable... and don’t even get me started on Xander... because *sighs dreamily* ;) my oh my… he’s definitely up there very near the top of my favourite book boyfriends list ;) he’s totally swoonworthy... I just... I can’t... I have serious problems describing him to you, because to do that I need to think about him... and once I start to do that... I just... *sighs dreamily* see?!? ;) don’t get me wrong, he’s not perfect by any means, but he’s the kind of "real" like Thea... an ultimately good character with some flaws... yes, he makes mistakes, but you can’t help to understand his reasons... ;)

Now let’s take a minute to talk about them together... because as much as I love them individually, I absolutely adore them as a couple... ;) they were friends first... for years to be exact, but there was always something a little bit more beneath that friendship... but because of a few other factors... more about them in a second... ;) they never pursued those feelings... until one time when they finally erupted ;) and they ended up married ;) although to be honest, I understand their hesitation… not only there were other people involved... I mean family members, no love triangles ;) but it’s scary to risk losing one of the closest people to you… but sometimes it’s soooo worth it ;) like in this case, because… *sighs dreamily* they were absolutely stinking cute together ;) not to mention that my favourite part was the fact that all the drama near the end of the book was outside of them… there wasn’t any stupid fights, any unnecessary angst or misscommunications... ;) and I couldn’t be more happy about it ;) I’m not gonna say anything else, because I don’t want to spoil you some very fun stuff, but trust me... it was absolutely delightful ;)

Besides our totally fantastic main couple, we of course have quite a few secondary characters ;) there’s of course Cade and Rae ;) the main couple from that previous book I mentioned ;) Cade is Thea’s older brother and Xander’s best friend and he was that reason who kept them apart for so long... so you can imagine his reaction on all that... don’t worry, it all ends well ;) he and Rae are definitely a cute couple and I am more than curious to go back and read all about them ;) especially since Rae was Thea’s roommate at freshman year at college... so I know that I will see again all my awesome people ;) there were of course a few more, but I wat to mention two different families... first, we have Xander’s parents and siblings... ;) they are so fun, and even if they joke around and tease, you know it’s not mean and that they will support one another when it truly counts... on the other hand we have Thea’s parents... now here’s the tricky part... I don’t want to tell you exactly what is going on with them, because that might be considered a spoiler, but what I can say is that the majority of that situation is resolved in this book ;)

What can I say... ;) I absolutely loved this book ;) if I could give it more than 5 stars, I totally would ;) it was funny, romantic, emotional and just... *sighs happily* just perfect ;) oh... I can’t believe I almost forgot to mention... there’s the cutest dog in this story as well... ;) because swoonworthy characters and phenomenal writing style just wasn’t enough ;) we have 2 POVs, which gives us the opportunity to glimpse into the minds of both of our main characters ;) we have an absolutely lovely story of friends who finally admit the feelings they’ve been having for each other for some time… and they are so fantastic together ;) we have interesting secondary characters who add even more layers to this story... and we can’t forget about the absolutely amazing writing style... seriously people, I am in love ;) it was my first book written by this author, but it will definitely not be the last ;) I could not put it down... it was hilarious, surprising, swoonworthy and emotional in all the right places ;) I cannot recommend you this book enough ;) if you are already a fan of this author or if you are brand new to her, just like yours truly, be sure to give this story a try ;) you will not regret it ;)

And the first book in this series is currently FREE :)

Review: "For better or worse" by Lauren Layne

Author: Lauren Layne
Book 2 in series The wedding belles
Main characters: Josh Tanner and Heather Fowler

I got my hands on the ARC of this lovely book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review and I loved this story :) definitely don't be discouraged by the fact that it's a second novel in a series, because it works perfectly well as a standalone :) although I do recommend you the previous stories, both book #1 and a little prequel novella, because Lauren Layne has such an entertaining writing style, that I'm sure it will be time well spent ;) but if this book is the one that will catch your attention, just go for it and read it first ;) ok, now that we have this little explanation out of the way, let me tell you more about the book :)

I'm gonna start with our main couple :) and even though usually it's the guy that catches my eye more... and to be honest it was a little bit like that in this case as well ;) I'm gonna tell you more about Heather first ;) mainly because I loved her in the previous book and was super excited to get to know her even more ;) she's an assistant wedding planner in The wedding belles company, working hard to get that promotion ;) when I met her in book #1, I immediately fell in love with her :) she's funny and sassy, and that's just the kind of women I love to read about :) now she achieved another one of her dreams, finding a lovely place to live... unfortunately, or fortunately, depending when you'll ask that question ;) her new neighbour is... well... ;) a bit loud with his band practice during nights ;) Josh is a few years older than Heather, and he used to have a very important and stressful job until... well, until something made him change his whole attitude towards life... I'm not gonna go into details what it was exactly, because I don't want to spoil you everything, and I'm sure that some of you can figure it out at least a little bit... ;) now he's really living, or at least so he thinks... ;) but is he truly happy? I'm not gonna answer you here, you'll discover all about it when you read the book ;) so they meet when she shows up very angry at his door in the middle of the night :) and from that moment... well, it's on ;) at first it's just this extremely entertaining to read witty banter... ok, it's a flirty-ish banter as well ;) and then it slowly grows into something more... but I really liked that it started with this sort of annoying friendship thing ;) and the more time passes, the more interactions there are between them... the more they feel for each other... *sighs happily* I really liked them together, even though some things that happened between them were... let's just say I had some small problems with them... but it's connected to my personal preferences as a reader... but even them could not diminish the pleasure I felt reading this wonderful book... after all, flawed characters are the best... they are more real and more human in my eyes than the perfect ones... no one is perfect, and I have troubles connecting to those sort of characters... but it's a very fine line... creating a character with flaws that's not too annoying ;) fortunately for me, Lauren Layne always knows how to do it ;)

Besides the main couple we have of course a bunch of secondary characters :) some of them very familiar, and some of them brand new :) we have Brooke and Seth, the main couple from book #1 :) and there are some spoilers about their story in this one, so if you truly don't want to know anything about them, start with their book first ;) then of course there's Alexis... and my oh my, how I can't wait to read her book... ;) if you are new to this series, or just don't want to be spoiled before who is the hero of her book, I'm not gonna say anything here... only that I am really REALLY curious... ;) and from the "brand new" people I need to mention Jamie, Josh's twin sister, who even though appeares only in a few scenes is such a great character... and of course Sue, his mom :) that woman is just... the best :) I'm just gonna say one word... pancakes ;) you'll understand once you read the book :)

I absolutely loved this story... although I fel like it took me forever to finish it... but it had nothing to to with the awesomeness of the writing style or the book itself... it's just that I've been traveling and had tons of other stuff to do in the meantime :) but I was always looking for a moment here and there to squeeze a chapter or a few to read :) it was another one of Lauren Layne's book that I've read... I think #4 in general, but I might be mistaken ;) and with each of them I am becoming more and more sure that her writing style just "clicks" for me :) yeah, I like some of her characters more than others, which is only natural when they are so diverse :) and some stories stay with me longer, but all of her books have that great quality to them :) and this book was no exception :) the banter between characters, all sorts of connections, not only romantic ones, but bonds of friendships as well... not to mention the absolutely lovely ending :) I loved it all :) I can wholeheartedly recommend you not only this book and this series, but the author herself :) if you don't know her yet, you are seriously missing out :) go remedy that situation right now ;)

Review: "One night stand" by Mignon Mykel

Author: Mignon Mykel
Book 1 in series O'Gallagher nights
Main characters: Conor O'Gallagher and Mia Hampton

I got the ARC of this novella from the author in exchange for an honest review and I have to say that I quite enjoyed it :) it's the first story in her new series and I am definitely looking forward to reading the future installments ;) since it's a shorter story, my review will also be not as long as you might be used to by now to get from me, but if I would write it how I usually do, I would end up spoiling you every little detail ;) so I hope you'll be ok with our little understanding ;) ok, so now that we have that little explanation out of the way, let me tell you a bit more about the novella itself ;)

Conor is a bar co-owner who usually ends up every night with a different woman... or women in some cases... ;) he's confident, cocky and definitely a flirt... and even though he might not be my favourite type of a hero, I liked that he was totally open and honest about his behaviour... he wasn't pretending, everyone involved knew what exactly is going to happen ;) Mia on the other hand is a teacher, a few years younger than him, and she is determined to be one of the women who spend the night with him... he doesn't remember her, but she was best friends with his younger sister years ago, when they were kids... they spend the night together and that's it... until of course a few months later when it turns out that she's pregnant... I don't really want to tell you how he finds out, and what exactly happens later, because like I mentioned before, it's a pretty short story and I don't want to spoil you every little detail ;) so instead of that, I will concentrate on all my feelings and thoughts about it :)

This is the second story written by the lovely Mignon Mykel that I've read, and even though I loved "Interference" more... so imagine my joy when the main couple from that story appeared for a scene or two here :) this one was pretty good :) after all I gave it 4 stars and it's a good rating ;) so the writing style was definitely entertaining, especially since we have 2 POVs in this story :) and you should all know by now how much I love being able to see what exactly is happening in both main characters heads ;) what I had troubles with is the time jumps... I would love to see and get to know more about the time between Conor and Mia, instead of just reading a few sentences summarizing a period of time they spent together... I needed to see a little bit more interactions between them, so the change in Conor would be more believable to me... I know it's a novella and it's much shorter that the full lenght novel, but I missed those scenes... :) I am definitely looking forward to reading about Rory and Brenna, Conor's siblings, in future installemnts in this series :) all in all it was a really good novella, so you should definitely give it a try :) I think I would love it even more if it would have been longer, so that we could see the changes between our main couple and the growth of them as individual characters ;) but the epilogue was absolutely adorable and it left me with the biggest smile on my face, so I hope you'll pick it up and form your own opinions about it :)

O’Gallaghers was the place to go if you were looking for a good time. The local sport teams hung out there after games, for one, but also because the O’Gallagher siblings were a sight to behold.
At least, in my opinion.
I grew up with the siblings, once upon a time. From the time I could walk and all throughout high school, my parents and I lived next door to the O’Gallagher family. Brenna, the youngest of the trio, and I had been best friends up until the fifth grade. Conor, the oldest, and Rory, three years younger than him, were wild, flaunted sex appeal like nobody’s business, and were fiercely protective of their baby sister.
They also didn’t seem to think she was every bit as wild and crazy as they were, which was actually part of the breaking point in our friendship. By the age of ten, I was no longer good enough for Brenna.
While I remained the quiet, timid Mia, the only part that was wild and crazy about me was the brown, curly locks on my head. Two years after our friendship ended, I still held on to my baby fat while Brenna was the first in our grade to get breasts, then her period. She was the first to grow tall in our class, too. Sure, we eventually all caught up and she became the shortest in our grade, but it didn’t stop the boys from noticing her. She was a five-four, C-cup beauty with raven black hair and piercing green eyes, and we were only twelve years old.
By fourteen, rumor had it she lost her virginity in the back of a high school senior’s van. A classmate of Rory’s, no less.
By sixteen, the rumors started circling she was pregnant. She wasn’t, I don’t think, but it was a popular story, told again and again.
The thing with the rumors was that the people spreading them, the people responsible for them, were extremely careful to keep their words clear of Conor and Rory.
Brenna left for school in her conservative clothes and always returned home in them. She left clean-faced and was sure to wipe the make-up off before heading home.
I’m sure her brothers weren’t stupid, but with everything else going on in their lives—senior year, college, and the like—if Brenna showed up clean and fresh and like the angel they thought she was, they could go on and pretend the same.
I never spread the rumors.
It wasn’t that I was afraid of her brothers; quite the opposite, actually. At all of eight years old, I had fancied myself in love with fifteen-year old, Conor. He shared the same jet-black hair Brenna had, but his eyes were the type of blue you could see from a mile away.
So incredibly brilliant.
As much as I missed Brenna’s friendship, it was the easy smiles her brother always had for us that I missed the most.
I sat at a high-top table in O’Gallaghers, my eyes on the man running the bar, hoping to catch that blue brilliance, willing it to aim my way.
Conor O’Gallagher.
I hadn’t seen him in fifteen years so I doubted he would recognize me.
But I certainly recognized him.
Gone was the lanky, tall, clean-faced kid from our youth. In his place was a taller, broader man with a short, yet thick, beard. The only time he flashed his smile was when he was flirting and he always paired it with a sexy wink. Tonight though, was ladies’ night, which meant he brought the charm up one-hundred-fold.
The O’Gallagher siblings were second generation Irish-Americans; their grandparents were from Northern Ireland. Anyone with any knowledge of Irish history would know that the Irish didn’t wear kilts, but rather tunic things called lein-croichs.
Ok, maybe I looked it up.
But I had been pretty sure kilts were a Scottish thing.
Thursday was ladies’ night, and Conor and Rory brought it up a notch by wearing solid black kilts—last week’s was saffron colored—paired with the forest green shirt that was part of the bar’s uniform. No other bartender did the same, just the O’Gallagher boys.
They also both wore tan work boots, which should have made the ensemble ridiculous but rather…
It was fucking sexy as all get out.
I had been coming in a few times a week for the last three weeks, trying to get the nerve to go up to Conor. Re-introduce myself. See if he wanted to sit and talk, ease him into what I really wanted from him. Yet, every time I came in, I sat at this table, away from the bar and away from Conor.
I licked the corner of my lips as I lifted the glass of Irish ale to my lips, my eyes still on the man of the hour.
Each time I was there, I was helped by one of the female barmaids. If I wanted to be helped by Conor, if I wanted him to truly notice me, I would have to sit at the bar but I still had to form a plan because I wanted more than to just sit and talk and catch up.
You see, for all of Conor’s flirting, he always backed it up. Sure, he flirted with damn near every female in the place, but if he gave you extra special attention, you just knew where your night was going.
Allegedly at bar close, he took one of the remaining ladies up to his apartment for a wild rendezvous. Never a virgin; he wasn’t quiet about his lack of desire to take a virgin to bed. He liked the wild women who knew their own way around the bedroom.
Thursdays, rumor had it, he brought two up with him.
I didn’t want to be one of two tonight, no.
But I did want one night with him.
A night to learn the ropes of sex.
Because if anyone knew what he was doing, it was Conor O’Gallagher.
And I was going to be his first virgin.

Random ramblings of a bookworm ;) #28

Catching up after my trip
Song of the moment
Why I should take a break from NetGalley,
but let's be honest... I won't ;)

Hello my lovely people :) a brand new monday and we all know what that means ;) a new #RandomRamblings post :) this week another shorter one ;) but it's very much connected to that first part of the headlines, so instead of babbling on about nothing, because I really don't have the time to do that ;) I will get straight to the point ;)

You all know, if you follow my blog on a regular basis, that I went on a training business trip for a few days last week :) I was away from my lovely Sascha (my laptop to those of you who might forgot) and pretty much stayed away from all the electronics, so when I got home... well... let's just say that there were a lot of things to read, like e-mails, messages and notifications... not to mention a whole lot of stuff to write :) so that's how I spent most of my weekend :) don't get me wrong, I definitely enjoyed myself and spent time with my family as well :) and if I'm being honest after those few days away my system got all messed up and I am still fighting and working to catch up on everything and get my groove back ;) it's definitely a struggle but I'm close to digging myself out ;) hopefully I will need like one more day and then everything should be back on track ;)

Today we are gonna embrace the chaos again, and not stick to the order of the headlines, so let me skip to that very last part, before coming back to the middle ;) NetGalley... *sighs* ;) it's an amazing place for bloggers and publishers to connect with each other, and I feel like I should avoid it for some time... ;) it's nothing bad or wrong... ;) it's just... well... ;) ok, here's the thing :) every time I log on to that site, there is some weird math going on... I cross off one book and add my review and all that... but somehow another few books catch my attention... and before I know what is happening, I'm requesting them and soon after, in most cases, my requests are accepted... ;) and instead of getting rid of books from my tbr #BookMountain I just keep adding more to it ;) so even though technically I know I should take a break from adding more... we all know that's not gonna happen any time soon ;) I have no will power when it comes to books ;) #NoRegrets #NoShame ;) but it's even better for you guys, since it gives you more opportunities to discover some lovely gems ;) you're welcome ;)

And last but not least, I wanted to share with you a song that's been stuck in my head for the last few days ;) I can't stop listening to it over and over again, so I decided why not to share my newest music obsession with you guys ;) who knows, maybe you'll like it as well ;)

Ok, that is a wrap people ;) you all know how I love to connect with you, so be sure to leave a comment here, on my Facebook page or Goodreads account :) I'm there pretty much every day and it's definitely the quickest way to contact me :) and be sure to come back here some more this week, cause I have some amazing reviews of some fantastic books for you ;)

Review: "Allegiance of honor" by Nalini Singh

Author: Nalini Singh
Book 15 in series Psy-changeling
Main characters: well, about that... ;)

I know I’m a little bit late for this particular party, because the book was published around two months ago, but I finally digged myself out of most of the ARCs I signed up for, which resulted in adding some books that I really REALLY wanted to read to my schedule… ;) and I couldn’t be more happy that I chose this book as one of my priorities ;) because it was simply amazing ;) I will try to do my best and on the one hand, tell you a bit about the world and characters in general in case you are brand new to this series, and on the other hand, to tell you why I loved the 15th book in this amazing series without spoilers ;) it’s not gonna be easy, but I will do my best for you guys, as always ;)

Ok, so let’s start with the basics ;) Psy-changeling is a series that really should be read in order… yes, each book (with the exception of this particular one, but I will explain that later) is concentrated on a different couple, but all of them are connected by events and consequences of those events that can span over multiple books ;) so if you are new, you should totally start from „Slave to sensation” ;) it’s a truly fantastic beginning and it involves my favourite couple from this world ;) ok, so to all you new readers, let me tell you a bit about this series ;) we have a world set a bit in the future, but it’s an alternate version of our world, where there are three factions ;) we have humans, who are just like us… psy, who have all sorts of mental powers… telekinesis, teleport... just to name a few, but there are soooo much more… ;) and changelings, who are shape-shifters ;) they mainly live in packs and are definitely my favourite type of characters to read about… in this series and usually in these paranormal-ish books ;) the whole series evolves around all the connections, or to be more exact basically lack thereof at the beginning, between all three groups… that of course slowly starts to change, and with each book it gets better… by the time of this installment, which is book #15, more than three years have passed since that first story and the situation is sooooo different ;) I know that’s not a lot of details, but I highly recommend you guys to at least try out that first book… it took me quite a lot of convincing to sway my sister J to finally try it out and she inhaled all books in record time ;) I hope you’ll give it a try as well, because there’s a reason why it’s one of my all time favourite series ever ;)

Now let me tell you a bit more about this particular book ;) and to all of you who are new to the series, be sure to avert your eyes from now on, because I don’t want to spoil you stuff ;) and basically everything from now on will include some sort of spoilers about this series ;) ok, so let’s go back to this story… ;) which is very special for many, many reasons ;) not only it does not have one main couple, it also works as a sort of connection between two big story archs ;) let me explain ;) from the moment I heard this was going to be an ensemble book, I was more than curious how Nalini will execute that idea… cause it could have been a huge mess… don’t get me wrong, I totally trusted her to do it just right, and I was not disappointed at all ;) so in this installment instead of following just events surrounding one couple, we re-visit most of the ones we already know and love… although definitely Lucas and Sascha play the biggest role in the events of this book ;) which really made me happy, because they are definitely my favourite couple in this series ;) unfortunately the reason why they are so important, is because their little daughter, Naya, is in danger… of being kidnapped or worse… I won’t go into more details who is behind all that and what exactly happens in the book, but it’s just one of quite a few important things going on… we also get to know a little bit more about the abductions of BlackSea changelings… there’s Xavier looking for his Nina, and you will finally know if he finds her or not ;) and of course the pupcubs ;) they are born in this book and we all get to see if someone bet correctly on the amount, sex and the packs they will belong to, of those little gems ;) those are definitely the main, bigger things happening in this book, but it’s also filled with so much more little ones… that are just as important, at least to me ;) because more often than not those little things show perfectly the difference between that first book and the newest one… ;) all the changes and growth that happened in that time… *sighs happily* ;)

I absolutely loved this book ;) it felt a little bit like a lovely, bonus epilogue to all those stories and couples we already love ;) don’t get me wrong, by any means it does not mean we won’t see them in future books… ;) but definitely not as much as in this one ;) and that’s ok ;) because trust me… as much as I enjoyed all of them here, I am more than happy to see new couples including new people… or some single ones we already met ;) I definitely have a few candidates that I would love to read sooner than later but I am perfectly fine with whatever story Nalini will give me ;) I trust in her ability to tell me a story that spoke to her the loudest and the one that just felt most „right” to tell next ;) even if that means waiting for my personal favourite people to get their turn a bit longer… it’s always worth it in the end ;) the writing style is amazing as always… Nalini is one of my all time favourite authors for a reason… I might not love equally all of her books… it’s only natural with the diversity of her characters after all, but the quality of her writing style is always there ;) she pulls me in the book from the start and makes me care about people that sometimes appear only in a scene or two… ;) but that’s actually connected to another reason why I love her ;) she definitely knows where she’s going with this series ;) I can absolutely see this when I re-read the previous books… you see glimpses and teasers about certain characters that takes place sometimes in a much later book ;) I love to look for them now ;) that’s why I know that if she mentions a character or an event, it’s definitely for a reason and I should pay attention ;) I was afraid that without the main couple anchoring the story, it might feel choppy and / or skipping chaotically between certain scenes… but it wasn’t like that at all ;) the story flows pretty fluidly between different people ;) and I have to say that more often than not those people are DarkRiver cats which made me super happy because they are my favourite group to read about in this series ;) I laughed, I aaaawwwww-ed and I teared up… ok, I want to say that I only teared up, but that’s only partially true ;) I teared up in sweet places, but there were also moments when I bawled my eyes out… I’m not gonna say why and when exactly, but it happened ;) this book was even better than I expected it to be… and this is book #15 in one of my all time favourite series people, so the expectations were certainly there ;) and high ;) *sighs happily* but this book was just amazing… like warm and fuzzy blanket that I wanted to just curl into and stay there forever ;) but let’s not forget that besides checking up with all the people we know, it also starts a few new plots and gives us glimpses and teasers about what’s in store for all of us in future books… and I am more than curious ;) so if you are brand new to this series, I hopefully convinced you to at least give it a try and check out that first book… ;) and if you are a long time fan like me, we can all hold hands and support one another waiting for another installment together ;) because you will have withdrawal symptoms after finishing this amazing book ;) you’ll want more and more of this world and for now, I have no exact date of the next full lenght book… *gasps* I know, I know… but a brand new set of novellas from this world is being published today, so that should hold us for a while longer ;)

Review: "Body shot" by Kelly Jamieson

Author: Kelly Jamieson
Title: "Body shot"
Book 1 in series Last shot
Main characters: Beck Whitcomb and Hayden Miles

I got my hands on the ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review ;) after reading and loving another book written by her... „Shut out” to those of you who will be curious which one ;) I was more than happy when I found out I can request another book by the same author... and although the writing style was still great, I enjoyed it a bit less than that previous one... let me tell you why ;)

Let me start with our main couple, because to be honest I think it was the main reason why I didn’t love it as much as I thought I would ;) don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adored Beck ;) he was all smooth-talking and charming ex-Navy SEAL turned co-owner of a bar… and with his tattoos, smiles and flirting I was all in a pudle by the end of the first scene with him ;) and I regret nothing ;) no, my problems were with Hayden… well, not at first ;) let me try to explain ;) it’s another one of those they-really-are-like-night-and-day type of situations… where Beck was open and talkative, trying to live his life and be happy, Hayden was totally different… a biochemist doctor and researcher, absolutely focused on work… an admirable work, yes, but it took over her whole life… she was definitely more closed off and awkward… a bit shy and, well… I’m not really sure how to explain it in the best way, but she was definitely peculiar… like because of the fact she was a different kid from the start, without many friends, she grew up to be an equally different adult, not really adapted to function fully in society… look, I had no problems with her at the beginning, because yours truly can be painfully awkward in social interactions as well, so I could relate to some of her troubles and feelings… but the more I read about her, the less I liked her… mind you, it never veered in the „hate” department, but I had troubles understanding some of her actions and decisions…

That is also why I had some small issues with Beck and Hayden together… I loved that they started with this insane attraction between them… ;) let’s not kid ourselves, people are not always in the mood to read about a slow-burn romance… sometimes we need a hot and fast romance as well ;) it’s all in the diversity and picking the book that suits your current mood the best ;) so back to our main couple ;) they start hot-and-heavy with what’s supposed to be a one-night-stand sort of thing for them… so no one is more shocked than Beck when he wants more from Hayden… well, maybe she is just as surprised as him ;) so this whole thing starts very unexpectedly between them and day after day, interaction after interaction… things start to change... ;) I loved to see how they influenced each other... how the time they spent together changed them... ;) but of course we all know that there has to be some drama before we all get the happy ending we’ve been waiting for, and the way she acted around that time was another reason why I had troubles really liking her... but worry not, I won’t go into more details... no spoilers from me ;)

Besides our main couple this book definitely does a very good job at introducing quite a few potential future main characters ;) I want to name three of them for you today ;) so we have Carrie, Hayden’s best friend ;) she’s a model who wants to pursue her passion of photography… and I absolutely loved her ;) she was such a good friend to Hayden and I am totally hoping that book #2 will be about her ;) and then there’s Marco and Cade, Beck’s friends and co-owners of the bar… they met during training and quickly became friends ;) they appeared in a scene here and there throughout the whole book and I have no troubles seeing them as the heroes of their own stories at some point in the future ;)

Overall it was a good book ;) by any means don’t be discouraged from trying it out just cause I had some minor problems with it ;) the writing style was great and the chapters flew by ;) my issues were connected solely to my personal preferences as a reader so I am absolutely sure that some of you will fall in love with this story and this couple ;) and don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed the majority of the book ;) after all, I gave it 4 stars for a reason ;) it’s a good rating and this is definitely a good review ;) so be sure to give it a try if it sounds interesting to you ;) and hopefully you’ll love it more than me ;)

Release blitz + Review: "The sex education of M. E." by L. B. Dunbar

Author: L. B. Dunbar
Main characters: Merek Elliott and Mary Elizabeth "Emme" Peters

I’m forty, flabby, and frustrated. Don’t get me wrong, I have a good home, a decent job, and great children. I had a loving marriage for twenty years where we had our ups and downs. It wasn’t perfect; but it wasn’t awful. Then he died.

After the grief took its course, and the reality of my life set in, I grew frustrated. It wasn’t the bills or the struggle to keep my interest in my work. It was life without a man – the only man I’d been with for twenty years. And before you go all feminist on me, it isn’t that I can’t be an independent woman, but there are certain areas where a man is necessary.

You need a fuck buddy, my friend said.
I didn’t even know what that meant.
Is it friends with benefits?, I asked.
Better, you don’t even have to be friends, she offered.

Boy, did I need an education in the modern workings of dating, and sex.

I got my hands on the ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review and I have some mixed feelings about this story... ultimately I gave it 3,5 stars but I'm still not entirely sure about my rating... it was my first book written by this author and based on the writing style, which I enjoyed, I will definitely check out her other work, because hopefully my problems with this one were solely connected to this story and characters... let me try to explain it a bit more...

When I read that this book will feature a main couple who are both over forty, I was really curious :) usually I read about a bit younger people, so I was looking forward to change it up a bit... :) and let's not kid ourselves, even before I started reading it, I had certain expectations... unfortunately, those expectations weren't met... mainly, I was really surprised by the amount of angst and just unnecessary misscommunication in this book... I truly hoped that both Merek and Emme would act in a more grown up way... but this whole push-and-pull and secrets and angst... I felt like I was reading about some college kids... or teenagers... it was an unexpected surprise, and not in a good way... especially since I'm really not a fan of those type of relationships and interactions... I tried to sympathise with them, I really did... and even though I understood some of the actions and decisions they were making, the majority of them... just made it really hard for me to connect with them... and not only with them, but with the secondary characters as well... they were a bit too meddling for my taste...

Don't get me wrong, there were definitely parts of this book that I loved :) the writing style was entertaining and there were such swoonworthy moments in this story... not to mention the hilarious ones... ;) so I will definitely go back and check out more stories from this author :) this particular one is written in 2 points of view, and you know I always love when I have two perspectives in books, so that was absolutely on the plus side :) I am perfectly aware that this is a much shorter review than you are used to getting from me, but honestly... the things I want to tell you are too spoilerific and I can't share them here... and the rest... well, this book definitely had some great moments, but it wasn't very memorable for me... by any means don't let my opinion discourage you from trying it out :) if the synopsis sounds interesting for you, then go for it :) I bet that for some of you it will become an instant favourite that you will re-read time and time again :) it just didn't work out for me this way :) maybe because I expected something else, so my disappointment was bigger than it would have been, had I known what actually will be going on in this book... but as always, when I share with you guys my thoughts and opinions, I strongly encourage you to make your own :) trust me, there are tons of books I really don't like and my #BookBesties adore and vice versa ;) but I wish you happy reading time whatever you'll decide :)

About the author:

L.B. Dunbar loves the original legend of King Arthur. Inspired by this classic tale, she pulled over to the side of the road to take notes when it hit her that if King Arthur lived today, he'd be a rock star. A lover of fairy tales, myths, legends, and anything with happily ever after, she loves to read and write contemporary romance. Her Legendary Rock Stars series is complete with the final tale: The Trials of Guinevere DeGrance, but the story began with The Legend of Arturo King. She also wrote The Sensations Collection, which includes five stand alones based on the five senses in a small town setting near Lake Michigan. Raised on one side of that lake, she grew up in Michigan, but now lives on the other side, in Chicago. Mother to four, wife to the one and only, and teacher to hundreds of former students, she looks forward to sharing more stories in the future.

Random ramblings of a bookworm ;) #27

Movie disappointment
A short explanation
Connecting with authors

Well hello there my awesome people :) it's a brand new monday and that means a brand new #RandomRamblings post as well :) this one may be the shortest one of them all, because I am crazy busy lately :) I am still working on balancing my new job and reading and my blog AND you know, actually living my life, meeting friends and spending some quality time with my family :) it's still a work in progress but I am getting better at it with each week :) so I am really looking forward to a very near future, when I will be all caught up on my ARCs reading... and it's only a week, max two weeks away :) *sighs happily*

So today I want to start from the middle of those headlines, and give you a quick explanation :) since I'm going on a work related training trip this week, from wednesday to friday, it may take me a while to respond to you guys if you contact me during that time :) so if it takes me a few days to react on your comment or e-mail, it's because of my trip and not because I am ignoring you :) I will catch up on everything once I get back so give me a few days and be patient ;) thank you in advance :)

Now let me go back to that first part of the headlines :) I finally saw "Jason Bourne" last week and let me tell you... I expected sooo much more... I loved the previous trilogy, cause I am not really counting that fourth, spin-off movie ;) and my expectations were pretty high before this newest installment... especially since Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass came back :) but after actually seeing the movie... well... it was a bit "meh" for me... it wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great as well... and since I wanted it to be really good, I was disappointed... by any means, don't make me discouraged you from giving it a try for yourselves... I really hope that you will enjoy it much more than me :) unfortunatley I can't really tell you why I didn't like it, because that would include a lot of spoilers about the movie, but it just didn't work for me... the story, the characters, some of the ways they resolved some issues in the movie... I know I'm being vague, but no spoilers means no more details for you... if you missed it somehow, I have a trailer for you :) make the decision for yourselves if you want to give it a try, and again, I really hope you'll enjoy it more than me :)

And last but not least, let me tell you about something very cool :) so I've been doing this for some time, but recently it's definitely became a bigger thing :) at least on my end :) ok, that sounded very cryptic :) what I'm talking about is connecting with authors :) I am exchanging messages with several of them actually :) which is very cool :) some of them reached out to me, with offers of reviewing their books, but most of those connections I initiated :) basically, I decided that if I found a book through one of the PR companies I work with and loved it, I will write to the author :) share my review and just say how much I enjoyed it :) first of all, it's always nice to hear that someone loved your work :) it's the same feeling I get when someone says they loved my review and bought a book based on it... and then loved that book :) those messages always make my day :) and me reaching out to authors most often than not ends with them adding me to list of bloggers they work with for future books and/or offers like "hey, I have X books already published, would you be interested in reviewing them as well?" :) and my response is always "HELL YEAH!!!" ;) so I am a very happy blogger :) I want to encourage you to write even a short message to an author, if you loved their book... it doesn't have to be a review on Amazon or Goodreads or some other sites, although they are always appreciated, but I am talking about an e-mail directly to the author... you never know, but sometimes those messages may come at just the right time to make them feel better when not everything is working out for them, when they have a bad day, and your message might just be that little thing that will make them smile :) and it's always nice to share good things with others... you'll feel better because of that as well ;)

Ok, that's a wrap people :) as always, you know how much I love connecting with you guys so be sure to leave a comment here, or on my Facebook and / or Goodreads accounts :) although I am definitely using Facebook and Goodreads the most... ;)

Review: "Mission: improper" by Bec McMaster

Author: Bec McMaster
Main characters: Caleb Byrnes and Ingrid Miller

I got my hands on the ARC of this amazing story from the lovely author herself in exchange for an honest review and I couldn't be more happy about it :) can you say amazing? because I certainly will... several times in this review actually... ;) this book... *sighs happily* this book was absolutely fantastic... :) I'm actually having troubles putting all my thoughts and feelings into words to really show you how in love I am with this series... and those characters... and just everything about it :) so how about I will start with a little bit of explanation to all of you who might not know Bec and her amazing books :)

So if you are brand new to this author, then you should now that this book may be a beginning of a series, but it's a beginning of a spin-off series :) so I highly recommend you to read London steampunk before you dive into this one :) do you absolutely have to do it to enjoy this story? that is a very good question... ;) and I will try to answer that as best as I can :) so first, let me tell you a bit about the world itself :) it's a steampunk / paranormal series, set in an alternate version of Victorian London, where society is ruled by blue bloods... they are stronger than humans and need blood to survive :) but do not call them vampires... those are something else entirely... besides the ruling group of aristocrats, because the craving virus that turns a person into a blue blood is given only to chosen ones, there are of course humans, but besides them, we have two more groups I want to mention :) verwulfen, who are close to shape shifters but not exactly... they are also much stronger with heightened senses and quite a few more surprises... ;) and there are also mechs... humans with mechanical limbs or organs, forced to work in enclaves to repay for those pieces of them, and treated worse than slaves... trust me, that is just the shortest version I can give you, because there are much more details and very interesting things to know about all of those groups, but if I would want to tell you all about it not only we would be here all day, but I would also spoil you some very interesting details you get to know further in the books :) what you need to know is that the series starts when blue bloods are the most powerful force in London and everyone else is treated like... well, let's just say the word slaves comes to mind again... and that first series, even though each story concentrates on another couple, follows a bigger story arch that spans all of the books and comes to a big conclusion in that last, fifth, book :) and let's just say that this story arch is about people, and by people I mean everyone else besides blue bloods, who finally have enough... but I can say no more about it ;) there is also a group of characters that appear in all of those books, and I highly recommend you to read them in order, so as to avoid some shocking spoilers ;) so now that I told you a bit about that first series let me try to explain you the connections to this spin-off series :) I would recommend you to read that first series if you are new to this world before reading this book, because even though there are really good explanations about characters... and it's fantastic, because for those of us who read that first series a long time ago, not to mention the amount of books one might have read since then, one might remember very little details... ;) and since some of those characters appeared before, it was good to have a reminder here and there from where we know them ;) it definitely jogged my memory... I swear, throughout the first half of the book my major reaction was "oooohhhh... now I remember him/her..." ;) but when it comes to world building, sentences explaining it work rather as reminders of things you already should know, than as explanations for a first time reader... I'm not saying that you wouldn't understand it, but it would definitely take you some time, and you might miss some very cool connections and other details because of your lack of knowledge about previous books :) so hopefully I convinved you by now to give those first books a try :) at least read "Kiss of steel" and see for yourselves how amazing it is :) it's gonna be soooo worth your time :) then I'm sure you'll dive into the rest of those books immediately ;)

Ok, now I am going to share some of the details about this newest book, so if you haven't read the first series yet, please avert your eyes and leave immediately because there is no way that I can discuss the book, withouth spoiling some major things from the original stories :) last warning, SPOILERS ahead :) ok, so for all of you who stayed, this book starts three years after the events in the last book :) prince consort is dead, and humans, mech and verwulfen rights have been established to protect them much more than it was before :) but of course not everyone is pleased with this new order of the world... dun dun duuuunnn... sorry, but I felt that this moment needed a dramatic music interruption ;) ok, going back to the topic :) this book does an amazing job of not only showing us the romance between our main couple... more about them in a second ;) but also starting a whole new story arch that blew me away :) seriously people, after loving that first series, I was a bit hesitant going into this book, because I wasn't sure if the idea would be good... if I will be invested in this story and those characters as much as I was with those first books... but my oh my... was I worried for nothing :) because you guys... it was bloody brilliant ;) pun totally intended ;) this new story... all the mysteries... both new and familiar characters... GAH!!! it was amazing :) I cannot wait to know more about... well, about everything ;) because there are glimpses and teasers about quite a few interesting things in this first story... and even though sometimes it's just a scene or two, it's done in such a masterful way that I immediately wanted to know more... ;)

So now let me tell you something about our main couple ;) both Byrnes and Ingrid were secondary characters in that first series, so I knew them a bit before :) but it was such a pleasure to get to know more about them : ) Byrnes is a blue blood... trust me, there is a bigger story and explanation there, but it's too complicated to get into with just a sentence or two here, so I will leave you all that to discover in the book ;) but he is a sort of unique detective :) again, it's the simplest way I can explain him, so let's just go with it :) he's charming and talkative but it's also a way for him to avoid deeper feelings and getting too attached to people... there is of course a reason for that behaviour, but I won't spoil it for you here ;) Ingrid on the other hand is a verwulfen :) she's much more impulsive, although she tries her best to control her temper :) she will do everything to fight for the freedom she was finally granted those three years ago... :) they actually met before the events of this book... there was a bet involved, about a year earlier, that ended in a very... let's just say Ingrid won and left Byrnes in a very... peculiar position ;) that is all the details I can share with you right now ;) so after that year she thinks he's still looking for a way to get his revenge and it's partially true... the other part is that she was haunting his thoughts and got under his skin and he simply could not forget about her... so now that they are working together in a team, more about that in a second :) he finally has the opportunity to act on it ;) and what can I say... *fans herself* ;) the witty banter between them, not to mention the off-the-charts attraction was very entertaining to read :) I loved to see how both of them were slowly coming to terms that there is more than just heat between them... there were a few scenes that were so cute to read... ;) not to mention that the beautiful epilogue totally made me cry... don't worry, in a good way :)

Besides the main couple there are of course quite a few important secondary characters :) and this is my clever way of telling you more about that special team I mentioned before :) because not only Byrnes and Ingrid were invited to join a group that will be handling some very mysterious cases that has been happening around the city in the last few months... in that team there are also Charlie, Ava, Kincaid and Gemma :) they are lead by duke of Malloryn and Isabella, but I will concentrate on the members of the team instead of the leadership ;) Charlie and Ava are actually another blue bloods we met before :) both of them have quite a past of their own, and I couldn't be more happy to see them here, because I'm assuming that they will have a much bigger role in this series :) and I already can't wait :) Gemma is also a blue blood, and a new character... or at least I think she's new, becaue I have no recollection about her from previous books... the same goes for Kincaid, who is a mech... I don't remember him at all, so even if they appeared in a scene or two before, for me they were new :) all of them have a history... and after seeing some glimpses into their pasts, not to mention some fascinating teasers about possible future stories with each and every one of them... all I can say is that I cannot wait for future installments in this series :) if I could, I would read all of them at the same time, because I am curious about each and every one member of that team :) and those little teasers only made it worse :) but I can say that at the end of this book you get a blurb of the second story in this series, and... *sighs happily* I can't wait to read about THAT couple :) I won't spoil you who will be the hero and heroine of that story, but I have a feeling it's going to be a great one :) not to mention that some of our favourite couples from previous books make an appearance here and there, and those scenes will definitely mean more if you read previous books... so that's just another reason to do it :)

People... this book was absolutely amazing :) I hope I convinced you to try it out, or start at the beginning if you are brand new to this author, because if you don't know the awesomeness that is Bec McMaster and her writing style, you are seriously missing out :) I am truly amazed... AMAZED I tell ya ;) how brilliantly she went with this spin-off series :) it's based in the same world we know, and involves a lot of characters we already fell in love with... but at the same time it introduces a bunch of brand new ones that capture your attention from the start and make you want more immediately :) it shines a light on secondary characters from that previous series and proves that they have so much potential :) the writing style is... just... I have no words for how great it is... :) the ability to mix together not only the beautiful romance between Ingrid and Byrnes, but also adding a whole set of teasers and informations for this second big story arch... without making you feel overwhelmed by all those details... making you curious about characters you read about in only two scenes... it's an incredible talent :) I was blown away :) maybe because it's been months since I read one of her books, I just forgot how fantastic she is... so trust me people and do yourselves a favour... give it a try and discover everything I wrote you about and much more in another fantastic book by a phenomenal author :) or if you are new, then go back and start with the story that started it all :) happy reading either way :)
