Books I can't wait to get my hands on ;) april edition

It's this time of the month people :) the time when I once again share with you all sorts of books I can't wait to get my hands on in the upcoming month :) and this time I have for you three full lenght stories and one novella :) all written by different authors and even though I'm very curious about all of them, the winner is pretty clear... ;)

"The player and the pixie" co-written by the fantastic duo of writers :) L. H. Cosway and Penny Reid :) I love these ladies individually, but when they are working together... magic happens ;) it's book #2 in Rugby series, and you have no idea how happy it makes me that this turned out to be a series :) when book #1 got published last year, I was afraid it's gonna be a standalone... and by the way, it's amazing and you all should go read it now ;) and the sequel is just around the corner :) it's gonna be a contemporary sports themed romance and I am counting down the days... ok, maybe even hours before I can get my hands on that little gem :) I don't want to tell you who the main characters are gonna be, cause they both appear in the first book, but I am definitely curious how those two will end up together :)

The second book I'm really looking forward to is "Dirty" by Kylie Scott :) it's book #1 in her new Dive bar series, and it can sort of be counted as a sequel / spin-off to her Stage Dive series :) and I say that because Vaughan, the hero of this story appears in the last book of Stage Dive series... :) and I can't wait to get to know him more... ;) I loved reading about the members of Stage Dive... seriously, I inhaled all four books in 5,5 days so you can imagine my anticipation... ;) I love her writing style and I'm really looking forward to dive... see what I did there? ;) into this contemporary romance :)

Now I'm gonna tell you about the novella :) "Z" by Larissa Ione is the newest addition to her Demonica series :) which reminds me that I am still one novella behind... oops... gonna have to remedy that before reading this one... ;) but let's come back to "Z" :) we met Zhubaal, the hero of this story before, and I have to say I wasn't his biggest fan at the beginning... ;) but of course after getting to know a bit more about him, now I can't wait to see how his story will go... :) it's gonna be a paranormal novella set in the world full of demons, angels and all sorts of other creatures... ;) and Larissa Ione has a very entertaining writing style so we'll see what she has in store for him ;)

The last book I want to talk to you about is "The obsession" by Nora Roberts :) it's a standalone contemporary romance with a mystery / suspense element to it :) even though I'm behind a book or two when it comes to her recent writing... and this woman can write... ;) I mean, she produces five whole books per year... :) and I love her for it :) but anyway... her writing is great and I adore the way she creates characters and builds connections and interactions between them... :) so a new Nora Roberts book is always something I'm looking forward to :)

Review: "The emperor's edge" by Lindsay Buroker

Book 1 in series The emperor's edge
Main character: Amaranthe Lokdon

First of all, I need to say something... :) Karen, I owe you big time for recommending me this series... :) maybe not like "I will give you my first born child" or anything, but close enough :) I did not expect it to be this awesome, especially when you said that the first book is really good, but the next ones are much better... ;) and now I'm sitting here thinking "it's gonna get even better?!?" and I don't know if I should be afraid :) someone actually may have to use smelling salts to revive me after I will fall dead from all the awesomeness... ;) and by that I mean Sicarius... ;) <sigh> you'll understand more in a second :) Karen, you had me at assassiny shenanigans when you were recommending this series to me and I'm glad I listened to you :) cause now we can share our love for this band of misfits and hopefully I can convince more people to read it :)

So let me tell you a bit more about this series... :) which is not gonna be easy cause even after reading this book I still have troubles putting labels on it and this world in general :) but I'll do my best :) I think the closest one I can come up with, is that it's a fantasy book with a bit of a steampunk-ish vibe going on... ;) but it's a mix of so many genres, that you shouldn't think too much about it and just go with the flow :) it's gonna be worth it :) but I am certainly hoping to learn more about the world in the next books :) by the time you're gonna be reading this I'm probably gonna be half way in the series :) and if you want to check, you can always add me on goodreads :) and in case you are wondering if it has a romance plot... well... :) sort of :) you can definitely see that some things might happen between certain people in the future, but it's definitely more subtle and slow burning :) now let me tell you more about the characters :)

Amaranthe is sort of the main character... ;) now let me explain why :) we meet her when she is one of a few female enforcers in the empire :) but that quickly changes when she learns about a nefarious plot to kill the emperor, not to mention the betrayal on his own court... dun dun duuuuunnnnn... ;) she's smart and clever, but I love that she's not some super warrior, who suddenly knows how to fight in several different styles :) but she definitely uses everything she has to get herself out of many different troubles throughout the story :) after some stuff that happens, and no, I can't share details, so you'll gasp in surprise just as I did ;) she joines forces, or the closest you can do when you are dealing with a dangerous, mysterious and feared by everyone assassin, Sicarius :) it may be wrong but I am totally swooning over him right now :) Karen, we can sigh together over him from now on ;) and not only him, but she gathers the most unexpected, weird, awesome and entertaining group of misfits I've read about :) I don't want to say too much about them here, so you can have the best and most funny surprises on your own, but Books, Maldynado, Akstyr and one more, whose name I can't share now because that person joins them near the end of the book, are a mismatched and hilarious group and I love them all :) there's also the emperor himself, and Sespian was a surprisingly interesting character as well :) I would love to tell you more about them, but I'm afraid that more details would be too spoilerific :) believe me, just by knowing their names you know who's gonna be important :) and I truly believe that it's better if you see for yourselves why I love those characters... ;)

The writing style reminded me a lot of Penny Reid, which is a huge compliment, cause I absolutely love her :) this book was quirky, smart and hilarious, because saying it was simply "funny" is not enough :) at first I was a bit confused, cause we are thrown in the middle of the world that we know nothing about... :) and to be honest further down the road we don't get too much explanations either ;) but once you embrace that, and just concentrate on the characters and action, the book is absolutely fantastic :) once you have all the main players in one place, hilarious banter follows them everywhere :) and I am more than excited and curious to know more about them :) especially since I know that in the future books we are apparently gonna get chapters from different points of views... :) I can't wait to get inside their minds... :) so if you don't know that series and this author yet, be sure to do yourself a favor and pick at least the first book to try it out :) if you enjoy smart writing style, hilarious humor, surprising twists and turns, adventure, assassins and shenanigans this book is perfect for you :) I really hope that I convinced you to read it by saying stuff and actually not saying any details... :) it was quite a challenge this time, because a lot happened in this story and I don't want to give away any spoilers :)

I have just a few quotes for you today, but believe me... this is just a small glimpse into all the awesomeness that is this book :) I couldn't put here the best banter, because it involved a lot of spoilerific details, but I hope these few will convince you to pick up the book and see for yourself how amazing it is :) happy reading :)

One of many reasons why I love Amaranthe and her way of thinking ;)
"'Uhm, hello,' she said, then cursed herself for sounding like a scared child. 'I'm Corporal Amaranthe Lokdon. Commander of the Armies Hollowcrest requested to see me.'
'It's late,' one of the guards said in a voice reminiscent of boots grinding into gravel.
'I realize that. Could you check to see if I'm on the list?' She had no idea if there was a list, but it seemed like the right thing to say.
Both guards offered flat unfriendly stares. Their humorless expressions were so similar Amaranthe wondered if it was part of the training. Disapproving Stares, the Advanced Course."

Part of the first interaction between Amaranthe and Sicarius :)
"'Can you help me?'
He stared at her without expression. Amaranthe shifted her weight, and snow compacted beneath her boots.
'I understand you probably don't get asked that often,' she said, 'but the expected responses are yes and no. Stony silence is not helpful, though if it was accompanied by a nod or head shake it would be decipherable."

And another one with Amaranthe and Sicarius ;)
"'If you can get a team together, I'll work with you.'
Amaranthe just managed to curtail a triumphant fist pump. 'That'll be acceptable. Any other concerns? Any questions?'
'One,' he said. 'During what phase of this plan will you start wearing clothes?'
She looked down. It wasn't exactly that she had forgotten she was standing in icy water, stark naked; she'd just forgotten to care. Reminded of her state, she blushed and grabbed a towel.
'Truly, Sicarius, if it weren't for your sinister reputation, I'd suspect you of a sense of humor.'"

And one more with them :) I just can't help myself :)
"'Remember,' Amaranthe said, 'the goal is to recruit this fellow to work for us. We don't want him killed or maimed.'
Sicarius slanted her a cool look.
'Of course, you know this already. I'm just concerned that your...' she groped to express her concern diplomatically, '...admirably honed assassin's instincts might forget.'
Silence was her answer. She tried not to feel nervous. It didn't work."

A bit of a group interactions :)
"A wagon loaded with ice rumbled through a cross street, and the driver whistled at Amaranthe. Maldynado snickered, and she quirked an eyebrow at him.
'Sorry,' he said. 'Am I supposed to defend your honor when they do that?' I'm a little unclear on the boundaries of our agreement.'
'No, I was just wondering why it was funny.'
'Because he was eyeing you like he thought you'd be a good time, and you're... ah...'
'Reserved?' Books suggested. 'Dignified?'
'No,' Maldynado said. 'Do you think you're a dictionary or something?'
'A thesaurus perhaps,' Books said.
'Proper?' Akstyr asked. 'She's kind of proper.'
'No,' Maldynado said. 'It's more...'
'Focused,' Sicarius said.
The others considered, then nodded and grunted agreement of this pinpoint description. Amaranthe smirked; at least dissecting her character together kept them from snapping at each other. She might be able to create a cohesive unit after all."

And the last one between Amaranthe and Sicarius :)
"'You said nothing to me of the newspaper clippings.'
'No, because you were displaying... snippiness yesterday.'
'Snippiness?' he asked.
'It's a word.'
'I think not.'
'I'll ask Books when we get back.'"

Random ramblings of a bookworm ;) #6

Fantasy, action and adventure
Laughing like a muppet
Movies I can't wait to see on the big screen

Welcome to another edition of my #RandomRamblings post :) this week on tuesday as an exception, instead of our usual monday post :) but that's beside the point :) I want to talk to you guys about movies today :) cause apart of being a huge #BookWorm and reading all the time I also love going to the movies :) and even though I enjoy comedies and romance movies and on occasion or two even dramas :) what I love the most are action and fantasy movies :) all others I can watch at home and enjoy them equally, but those are the ones that I need to see on the big screen :) and I wanted to share with you guys some of the movies that I'm impatiently waiting for :) but before that, let me explain that middle part of the headlines ;) I think I mentioned it before in one of my other #RandomRamblings post, but if you missed it or don't remember, I'll say it again :) my sister, J, is always saying and complaining a bit ;) that when we go to the movies and it's a really funny one... well... I tend to laugh really loud ;) she compared me to a muppet on more than one occasion ;) but that's ok cause I really don't care ;) I have a great time and I'm not ashamed of that ;) but I do try to tone it down a bit if the movie is really hilarious... ;) "try" is the key word in that sentence... ;) and now let me share with you guys some of the movies I'm counting down the days to see, in the next few months :)

So the first one, and I'm gonna do them chronologically by the date of the premiere, because I can't decide which one I'm looking forward to the most is The huntsman: winter's war :) it's a sequel, but actually a prequel to Snow White and the huntsman... I'm not quite sure :) but it's the mix of everything I love in the movies... :) amazing characters brought to life by fantastic people, fantasy mixed with action plus a little bit of a retelling fairy tales... count me in ;) Emily Blunt's scream in this trailer still gives me chills...

The next one is of course Captain America: civil war :) I am a huge fan of other Marvel superhero movies so you can imagine the anticipation that's been building inside of me to see this one :) even though I hate to see my favourite characters on the opposite side of a conflict, I can't wait to see this one on the big screen :)

Movie #3 is X-men: Apocalypse :) why I can't wait to see this one? again, the action and fantasy elements... plus, I've always been a fan of the mutants... :) not to mention that I adore the actors who are playing most of the parts in this movie :) I mean, come on... James McAvoy AND Michael Fassbender in ONE movie?!? <double sigh> ;)

Next one is strictly fantasy :) I have been hoping for a sequel to Alice in Wonderland for a long time and now Alice through the looking glass is finally almost here ;) I loved the first one and I'm very curious if they are gonna capture that magic in the sequel... I guess we'll find out soon, won't we... ;)

The next one is Warcraft :) and even though I'm not a fan of the game... well, it's not like I hate it, I just never played it... to be honest, I'm afraid I'm gonna get addicted, so better safe than sorry ;) but again, fantasy elements are definitely a plus for me in this one :)

Now this one... this one I am looking forward to with a smile on my face... ;) Now you see me 2 is a sequel to the surprisingly titled Now you see me ;) and since I thoroughly enjoyed the first one, I am counting on the repeat of action, comedy and a bit of magic ;)

I'm not gonna lie... the main reason I want to see The legend of Tarzan is Alexander Skarsgard ;) but I mean come on... I know some of you are thinking exactly the same thing... ;) don't worry, your secret is safe with me :) don't get me wrong, I would be interested in this movie even with another lead actor, but this one definitely encourages me to go see it on the big screen... ;)

And last but definitely not least there's Suicide squad :) I have a good feeling about this one... ;) what's not to love? interesting characters... sarcastic humor... action... :) fingers crossed it's not gonna be a disappointment... :) plus, the use of "Bohemian rhapsody" in this trailer is just... pure perfection... :)

That's a wrap for today people :) what movies are you anticipating the most? do we have some of them in common? be sure to share them here or on my fb page :) cause I would love to geek out over them together :) plus, did you guys knew that I'm on Goodreads? :) click on this link -> here <- and send me a friend request, so we can be #GoodreadsBesties together ;)

Review: "Marked in flesh" by Anne Bishop

Author: Anne Bishop
Book 4 in series The others
Main characters: well... about that ;)

Ok people... first a few words of explanation :) this review is gonna have two parts :) the first one, when I will tell you about this whole lack of one main character and a bit more about the world in general, is gonna be totally spoiler free :) and then the second part, when I will concentrate on reviewing this particular addition to the series with spoilers from the previous three books, but no worries, it will be very clearly marked, so there's no way you're gonna read something accidentally :) if you read a spoiler it's gonna be totally your fault, cause I'm gonna give you like three huge warnings, so don't go blaming it on me later ;) are you guys ready? ok, let's start with some basic info :)

This series definitely has a paranormal / urban fantasy vibe and it takes place in sort of an alternative version of our world :) and the world in these books is populate by two different types of creatures :) one of them are humans and the second one are others :) and those "others" can take many different forms... we have among them sanguinati (think vampires), shape shifters of many different sorts, elementals and many, many more :) in the first two books, Meg Corbyn is the main heroine, but with each additional story we get to know more characters, so by book four we have a pretty large group :) but let's go back to Meg :) she's very unique :) she stands sort of between humans and others... cause technically she's human, but... :) let me try to explain :) she's cassandra sangue, or a blood prophet as they are called... that means that her skin is very valuable, cause every cut on her results in a vision of the future, that many people are willing to pay a lot of money for... so the blood prophets are kept in compounds, supposedly for their own good... we met Meg in the first book, after she escaped... she headed straight for the courtyard :) and courtyards are places in big cities, when some of the others live as sort of a representatives for all of them, to keep humans in check... I don't want to say much more, in case you are new to this series, but I will add this... :) the first book is my absolute favourite so far... :) it was a fantastic introduction to this whole world and all sorts of different creatures in it... the second book was also really good, showing us more and diving deeper into the details and secrets of the world and its inhabitants... but the third one was kind of a disappointment for me... mainly because I expected a bit more resolutions than questions from that book... it had soooo much subplots and I missed my favourite Lakeside courtyard characters :) but no worries, this fourth book was better :) so now let me go into a bit more datails about it :) and this is your first SPOILER WARNING :)

Seriously people, if you have not read the previous three books, and you don't want to know what happened in them DO NOT READ THIS PARAGRAPH :) to all of you who are still reading, be prepared to see some SPOILERS :) not too many, but I know how I hate to read unexpectedly in a review something like "and I hated when XXX died" and I'm here like "hello... not all of us read this book already, maybe a little warning?" :) that's why I do spoilers free reviews most of the time :) but sometimes an exception has to be made :) ok, now let's finally go to the book :) after the third one, the story dragged a bit for me, and the beginning of this one was similar... I was afraid after reading the first few chapters, that it would be a repeat of my impressions from book #3... fortunately, that was not the case :) things were definitely happening in this book, let me tell you... :) a lot of them :) I totally understand why some opinions I've read claimed that it feels like the last book in a series ;) because we finally have this BIG THING happening near the end of this book... the thing that we were building towards for quite some time now :) in this book humans finally learn why you should never piss off others... because the ones you see are definitely not the most dangerous creatures that exist in this world... and I was cheering for them so much... :) so be prepared to see that Humans First and Last finally get what they deserve... :) we also see a possibility for the blood prophets to share their visions in a way that will maybe let them live longer... it's a very interesting idea, so I won't say anything more about it so you can discover it for yourselves :) we also see how the cassandra sangue are living outside of the compounds... not to mention, that we get to know even more about certain secondary characters in this series... ok, so maybe there weren't many spoilers in this paragraph, but hey, better to be safe than sorry ;)

Now let me tell you a bit more about my impressions :) I've had a bit of mixed feelings about the beginning of the book... on the one hand, I loved that there was a bit of an explanation about the situation and all main characters, cause if you read a lot of books, like I do, you might have troubles remembering what happened previously, what are the rules of the world you're currently reading about and so on... :) so these few sentences here and there definitely helped me remember what's been going on :) on the other hand, the amount of subplots and places the book took us to, was a bit too high... but then one thing happened after another, so many surprising twists and turns and I was glued to the book reading page after page after page, because I needed to know how all of this will end... :) I was actually afraid that this BIG THING will happen in the last book and I was trerrified that I will need to wait a whole year to see the consequences of some really stupid and terrible things some humans did... but don't worry... it's all in this one... :) so all in all I really enjoyed this book :) even though some parts of it made me really sad... it stands on the high second favourite place in this series for me :) and I am more than curious to read the conclusion to this series, cause I have some ideas what can happen in it... and all I can and will say is "it's about time" ;) all of you who read this series know who and what I'm talking about ;)

Review: "Knox" by Eve Jagger

Author: Eve Jagger
Title: "Knox"
Book 3 in series Sexy bastard
Main characters: Cooper Knox and Shelby Masters

First of all, a few sentences of explanation :) I am able to post this review on the day of the release because I was lucky enough to receive an ARC from the author :) and before you all get into "since she got the book for free her opinion will be biased" let me stop you right there :) I am extremely proud of the fact that this blog and the fb page of it are mine and that I always write my own, personal and honest opinions :) even if sometimes they are different from yours :) but hey, I respect that :) so was I excited about this whole situation? hell yeah :) you can read all about it in my #RandomRamblings post from earlier today :) for your convenience I'm gonna leave you the link -> here <- :) but my opinion would be the same if I would find that book and got it on my own :) in fact, I was reading it with a much more critical eye than usual... :) why, you ask? well I'll tell you :) before I read a book I do a lot of research on it, checking my #BookBesties opinions and so on, so generally reviews I write are positive :) that's because I end up reading a book I really want to :) but this time I knew nothing about it :) which was exciting and new :) I actually chanted to my kindle "please be good, please be good, please be good..." before I started reading, because I would hate to write a bad review if the book would suck (although I would do it if that was the case) after Eve wrote to me... and she's such a nice person :) so imagine my joy when the book turned out to be fantastic :) and after my longer than expected explanation, let me dive right into the actual review :)

This book is #3 in the Sexy basterd series, but can totally be read as a standalone ;) I mean, I read it this way cause it was the first book ever written by this author that I came across :) although I would recommend you to read the prequel novella before reading this story, but it's currently free on Amazon so grab it while you can, you are not gonna regret it :) that novella describes a one night stand between Knox and Shelby... or what they thought would be a one night stand ;) and it gives you a great insight into both of the main characters of the story :) the actual book picks up a week after that :) it's a contemporary sports themed romance :) and believe me, even though I know basically nothing about most sports in general, it never stopped me from enjoying books about athletes ;)

So about our main couple... :) I absolutely loved Shelby :) she was funny and clever and you know how I love me a smart and sassy heroine :) she recently got promoted to VP of PR for Atlanta's football team :) she believes that baseball is not a real sport... just slightly better than golf really... which is hilarious when you take into the account that Knox is a... yeah, you guessed it... a baseball player ;) and he's definitely not just a hot and sexy athlete... :) he's funny and smart as well... :) he gets traded from New York to Atlanta and that's why the one night stand turns into something more... but there's a catch... :)

But before I go into more details about that, I need to tell you more about the secondary characters in this book :) so we got the couples from previous stories :) Ryder and Cassie from book #1, and Cash and Savannah from book #2 :) and after seeing them in this story I am definitely gonna want to know how they ended up together :) so it's great that in this book there are absolutely no spoilers about their histories :) and because Eve Jagger was such a sweetheart and sent them both to me, I am definitely gonna be reading them sooner than later... :) there was also Jackson, a very overprotective older brother of Shelby... seriously, there's overprotective and then there's whatever Jackson was doing... no wonder Shelby took the opportunity to go wild when she could ;) more about that in a second :) I also adored Ruby and Avery, Shelby's friends :) they were funny and supportive and surprising voices of reason on more than one occasion so basically best besties ever ;) but they all took second place after our fantastic main couple :)

So the catch that I mentioned earlier is about this... Ryder, Cash, Knox, Jackson and Parker are friends... and I mean they've been friends for years and hooking up with your friends sister is a big no-no in bro code... or so I've been told ;) but before you get all mad at Knox I have to say in his defense, that he didn't knew that on New Year's Eve, when he spent the night with Shelby... but she did... bad Shelby ;) in her defense, she really needed a break from her brother blocking every attempt at a relationship with a guy... :) besides it was suppose to be a one night only thing, since she lives in Atlanta and he in New York... so you can imagine his surprise when they meet again... :) they quickly decide to be just friends and to keep that one night a secret from everyone else, but since the attraction between them only grew and the chemistry is sizzling hot it's not long before there's a repeat of that New Year's Eve magic ;) and after that, they decide to see if there can be more between them... but in secret from others... of course stuff gets complicated along the way... some stupid decisions are made, but fortunately for me they are handled afterwards in a pretty grown up way... :) not to mention that the book ends with a fantastic epilogue... :)

I can honestly say that I adored this book :) the writing style was fantastic and there were two perspectives guys... and you know how much I love that :) especially when it's done as great as here, when you can actually see the difference between the way that Shelby and Knox think and talk... :) it was funny and emotional and sexy as hell... :) and I mean sizzling-hot-blushing-all-over-biting-your-lip sexy :) <fans herself> ;) just the right amount that makes you all hot and bothered without crossing the line into the "his hand is... where??? wait... and then the leg goes around and twists and... how's that even physically possible?!?" territory :) I devoured the prequel novella and the actual book in two days :) and I can't wait to read other books in this series :) and dearest Eve, I am seriously hoping that you are already working on or at least plotting out book #4 because I need more awesomeness from you :) the fact that I might have not heard of her if she hadn't contacted me is too scary to think about... <shudders> ;) so I'm just gonna concentrate insted on the fact that I now have one more amazing author to look for when I need a smart and sexy romance that will make me laugh and make "aaawww" noises in all the right places :) if you don't know her yet, do yourselves a favor and go check her out right now :) it's gonna be sooo worth it :)

I have for you some quotes today :) they are both from the novella and the full lenght book, because those two goes really good together ;) I wanted to share more, but some of them were too spoilerific or straight up too sexy to share in public ;) so this is just a glimpse into all the awesomeness that awaits you in the actual story :) oh, and the quotes from the novel are from the ARC version of it, so there might be slight differences in the finished version :) happy reading :)

If you are wondering why I would like to have a friend like Ruby, here's your answer ;) it's her advice about Jackson :)
"'Give him hell,' Ruby says as I zero in on him. 'And if that fails, give him a kick to the balls. At the very least, it might buy you time for sexcapades while he recovers.'"

One of the first conversations between Knox and Shelby :)
"Knox pulls the car up to the side of a community baseball diamond and I raise my eyebrows. Looks like every other field in suburban America. My mom and dad used to drag me to a similar one every summer to watch Jackson play. They'd even tried to get me into softball, but it hadn't stuck.
I give Knox a side-eye. 'I know diamonds are a girl's best friend, but for the record I prefer them shiny and encased in platinum.'
'I hope you find a guy with deep pockets for those expensive tastes.'"

Part of another conversation between our main couple :)
"'So.' Shelby takes a swig of her whiskey. 'Why baseball?' She needles me with her foot and I grab it before she can pull it away.
'Because I like to play a fake sport.' I run a finger lazily up and down her calf, loving the way she trembles at my touch. 'Why football?' I ask. 'Wait, no, let me guess - it's a real sport with plenty of eye candy?'
'You think you're cute, don't you?' she asks.
'Absolutely not. I'm hot as hell.'"

One of Shelby's inner monologues... and I totally get it ;)
"Dangerously sexy and masculine, but with a clean-cut, all-American ball player's swagger that makes you want to rip off that checkered button-down shirt he was wearing friday night to find out what's underneath. Only I already know.
And I also know what comes next. Kisses that just about melt your panties off, and hands that will have you writhing with a wild, animal desire in a record amount of time. The Atlanta Braves' new starting pitcher is very, very good with his hands.
I've been staring at the same spot on my screen for the past five minutes. Focus, Shelby."

One of the reasons why I am so curious about other books in this series :)
"'Ladies' night has officially begun!' Savannah pops the cork on a bottle of Merlot as she kicks off her shoes. 'Speaking of which. Shouldn't Ryder be off running a fight club or tending a bar?'
'Don't worry, Savy, I've got my prize fighter well-trained,' Cassie responds as she curls up in Ryder's lap. 'He knows he's bound to the girls' night code of secrecy.'
'My lips are sealed,' Ryder says. 'Besides, you can't kick a man out of his house when he's supplying the booze.'"

Just one more reason why I love sassy Shelby ;)
"'Don't forget that my overprotective older sibling will be around to cockblock any potential love connections I might come across.'
I swear that guy has a way of smelling any potential action that's coming my way. It's a wonder Jackson didn't sniff out the fact that something was going on between me and Knox up on that roof deck on New Year's. I wouldn't have been surprised to see him somersaulting over the building with a fire extinguisher, ready to douse even the tiniest spark."

I absolutely loved this part of a conversation between Knox and Jackson after Knox helped out Shelby ;)
"'What's going on, man?' I say as casually as I can.
'I'm calling about Shelby.'
Shit. I freeze in the midde of my house like he's going to pop through my door with a baseball bat in hand, ready to take his revenge.
How did he find out?
I panic, running through possible excuses. It's not what it looks like, I was just dropping her off at home. And staying over. And leaving looking like my head was stuck into a wind tunnel the next morning. Um...
'Thanks for taking one for the team last night, dude. I owe you one.'
I practically collapse against the sink in relief."

One of the reasons why I love group scenes so much... :) and no, I can't explain what exactly they are discussing, I'll leave that little gem to discover for you on your own ;)
"'Avert your eyes,' Ryder says as I come down the stairs. 'It's the third member of the fabulous streaking trio.
'We thought you guys were coming later,' I say with a scowl.
'And miss the annual meeting of the Naked Ladies' Water Ballet society?' Cash says. 'Not a chance.'
'Heard we missed quite the show,' Savannah says. 'No one thought to snap a pic?'
'Thankfully they didn't. And we agreed never to discuss this topic again,' Avery reminds the group.
'We're legends, Avery' says Ruby. 'I'm comfortable with that.'"

Random ramblings of a bookworm ;) #5

Plans for the next week and a half
Fangirling over authors
My very first ARC's

Hello my awesome people :) we have another monday and that means a new edition of my #RandomRamblings post :) and this time I'm even gonna write about everything I mentioned in the headlines in that exact order... ;) I know, shocking :) but hey, you can't always be chaotic and all over the place like I usually am... ;) so first things first :)

Since I am going away to visit my family for the holidays, I am gonna be away from my computer and wifi... ;) and that will affect my posting habits for a few days... but no worries, I figured out a plan that will make all of us happy :) so the plan is as follows: you will have a brand new review later today :) I know... two posts on the same day... crazy ;) but it's happening for the reasons I'm gonna share with you later in this post, so for now just keep reading :) then you'll gonna have another review on thursday, before my departure :) next week, my #RandomRamblings post is gonna appear on tuesday, not monday, but that's just a one time exception, since I'm back home that day :) and after that, a new review on wednesday and "books I can't wait to get my hands on" post on thursday :) and after that we'll see... ;) so if you think about it, not much is gonna change on the blog :) I will also prepare a few posts for my fb page so there will be something new there every day :) but it may take me a while longer to react if you guys write something to me :) because there's only so many things I can do on my phone and mainly because when you visit your family, you usually want to actually spend time with said family :) at least I want to do just that :)

Now about that second part of the headlines... :) you guys know already that I love to read... :) duh, it's pretty obvious :) I've been blabbing about books for quite some time now... ;) so for me authors are like celebrities / rock stars :) I know in the logical part of my brain that they are just human people and everything, but it doesn't change my reaction when I interact with them :) I'm in a full blown fangirl mode at that point :) and I am only talking about interacting online... I'm afraid to think what would happen if I actually saw them and got a chance to talk to one of my favourite authors face to face... :) but I appreciate each and every time an author takes time to respond to what people post on their social media pages :)

And now let's go to my favourite part of the headlines... ARC's... plural and everything :) it was suppose to be just one, but recently I got another few :) and I am super excited about all this :) I mean, it's books... not only that, but it's free books... free books that I received BEFORE the release date :) <squeels with joy> :) and I am not ashamed of my reactions at all... :) although to be honest I said more than once throughout the last few days this phrase:

To those of you who watched it without sound, she says "I have got to chill" :) and I know that for some people my level of excitement might be really high, but I don't care :) I'm happy and I wanted to share my happiness with you guys :) I started this blog out of my love for books and me wanting to share that passion with others :) and recently I started dipping my toe in the NetGalley and ARC's and all that stuff :) and it's exciting :) and to those of you who might think that I will write only good reviews about the books I get that way... don't worry :) I am extremely proud that everything I post on my blog and my fb page are honest and true to my thoughts and impressions :) everything you guys read was written by me, no one else :) well, except all the quote / pictures that you see on the fb page :) those gems are all made by my sister J :) she finds the quotes and pictures and creates all of them for all of our pleasure :) I am more than happy to share them with you, but I would never take credit for her work :) thank you J :) but everything else, the reviews, daily ramblings on fb page and now this weekly posts are all me :) and the reason why most of my reviews are good ones is because I do a bit of research before actually choosing a book to read :) so that's why I'm rarely disappointed in them :) they are usually highly recommended by my trusted #BookBesties :) but even if I don't like the book or something in it, I'm never rude or disrespectful... you guys, there's a difference between saying that you didn't like the main character and claiming that the author is stupid and no one should ever publish his or her books... and believe me, I've read stuff like that online... not cool... ARC's are my way of trying out stuff that I'm interested in, but may not have a chance to find on my own :) I signed up for books that really caught my attention and by the time you'll be reading this, I'm gonna be reading one of those interesting stories ;) but I will always have a special place in my heart for Eve Jagger :) she was the first author ever to contact me about an ARC of her book :) and now I am extremely grateful that she did that... because not only she's like this super nice person but she writes amazing stories :) in fact the review that will appear later today is gonna be of one of her books, "Knox" :) and believe me, you'll want to read it and then go and get it for yourselves cause it was sooooo good... :) but more details about that in a few hours ;)

That's a wrap for today people :) I hope that by now you guys trust me to share only my honest opinions with you... :) and since I'm gonna be away I need to prepare next week #RandomRamblings post in the next few days... so what do you guys think if I would do it about movies? :) I mean, I'm probably gonna do it anyway, but it would be nice to know that you'd be interested in it :) yeah... movies, definitely... with some very cool trailers so we can geek out together :)

Review: "The wall of Winnipeg and me" by Mariana Zapata

Main characters: Aiden Graves and Vanessa Mazur

I have to say that I rarely read standalone books... not that I have anything against them, it's just that I usually pick up books that are part of a series :) but more often than not those books can also be read as standalones :) and I really like that :) getting to know some people in other books and then reading about their own happy ending in another one :) but I've heard so many great things about Mariana Zapata and her writing style, and from very trusted sources, I have to add ;) that I decided it's finally time to check her out :) and damn... ;) why have I waited so long to do it? :) I am not surprised that one of my #BookBesties named her the Queen of Slow Build Romance :) I absolutely agree with that :) but to those of you who need steamy scenes all over the place... you won't find that here ;) but does that makes this one boring? hell no :) so now let me tell you more why all of you should give it a try ;)

Let's start with our main couple :) and by that I mean I'm gonna have to start with Vanessa :) I am totally #GirlCrushing on her right now :) she was amazing :) I love this kind of heroines the most :) sassy, smart, determined... the kind that actually have plans and goals of her own :) she's such an inspiration :) she studied graphic design but worked for the last two years as Aiden's personal assistant... :) to save up money, all the while working on growing her business :) and Aiden... he's a defense player in the NFO... and he's big... and when I say big, I mean huge :) "the Wall of Winnipeg" is his nickname so you can imagine how big he is :) he's definitely a man of a few words... and not even a few words to be honest... more like grunts and nodding :) at least at the beginning :) he's focused on achieving his goals and dedicated to his work... but both of them are much more layered characters than it seems at the first glance... :) and I have to say that character development in this book was truly spectacular... we got to see the different parts of them in time, but it was all beautifully connected to who each of them are... :) there was no sudden changes, it all unraveled over a long period of time... :) <sigh> soooo good, seriously :)

The book starts when Vanessa was already working for Aiden for about two years, and she finally has the amount of money saved up that allowes her to quit and focus on her own business :) I don't really want to go into too many specific details, but... :) she quits with not so warm feelings about her boss at that moment so imagine her surprise when a few weeks later he shows up at her door and wants her to go back working for him :) again, I won't tell you exactly how and why he gets her back into his house, but it's happening... :) and from that moment we see the changes... slowly things are different between them... :) and I have to say that their whole story was absolutely lovely... :) it was beautiful, and realistic... it takes time for things to change between people :) so it was a nice switch from all those insat-love relationships that are so popular... and don't get me wrong, I have nothing against those kind of stories ;) I actually quite enjoy them, when I'm in the right mood... :) but this story... <sigh> :) it stole my heart... all the little things and gestures that meant soooo much coming from the right person at the right time... <double sigh> ;) it was most definitely not boring :) I was totally mesmerized and could not put it down... :) and I was rewarded with a stunning story and the cutest epilogue ever at the very end ;)

Besides the main couple there were of course a lot of secondary characters, but Vanessa and Aiden definitely were the centre of the story... duh, obviously ;) anyway... ;) there was Zac, Aiden's roommate and Vanessa's friend :) another football player :) very fun and charming guy... and also Diana, Vanessa's long time friend, who coloured her hair in different, interesting shades throughout the book :) there were also some not very nice people... and that is putting it extremely mildly, cause practically the whole family on Vanessa's side is... horrible... yep, let's go with horrible since I still have a no-cursing-in-posts rule ;) but all of those people were just additions to the awesomeness that was Vanessa and Aiden... damn, I loved their story :)

I am absolutely in love with Mariana Zapata and her writing style right now :) it was funny, emotional, realistic and just so... wonderful, fantastic, amazing... you can literally put whatever positive adjective you want here, and it will be true :) I will be definitely reading all other books that she wrote... probably in the near-ish future :) and the fact that they are all standalones as well is actually great, cause I can squeeze them in between different genres I read... cause you all know how much I love to skip between genres... and series... all the time :) but it does keep things interesting for me, and also, because of that, I write different reviews and can introduce you to various authors and books that maybe you haven't heard about before :) but back to the Queen of Slow Build Romance ;) I have to say that I was a bit apprehensive before I started this story, cause I wasn't sure how much I would enjoy something different from what I've been reading recently... turns out, it was fantastic :) different in the best possible way :) I loved the slow build up, the little changes and gestures... this book left me with the biggtest smile on my face and the warmest feeling inside of me... :) you should all give yourself a treat of reading this wonderful gem if you haven't done that already :) and if you did, welcome to the Mariana Zapata Fan Club ;) to all of you who have yet to do it... what are you waiting for? :)

You may be wondering why I have just a few quotes here for you, since I loved the writing in this book so much, but the answer to that is very simple... :) since Aiden is a man of a very few words, the best quotes from him were much too spoilerific to put here... ;) and all the other wonderful exchanges between them were more subtle... a sentence or two here and there... that taken out of context wouldn't show all the meaning behind them... :) so treat these few as just a little glimpse into all the beautiful things that awaits you in this story :) happy reading :)

The very first few sentences of the book and I was in love ;) one of Vanessa's inner monologues :)
"I was going to murder his ass. One day. One day long after I quit, so no one would suspect me."

And another one from Vanessa :)
"The thing with having a terrible day is that a lot of times, you don't know it's going to be a bad one until it's too late; it isn't until your clothes are on, you've eaten breakfast, and you're out of the house, so it's too late to go back to request a sick day... and bam! The signs stare you right in the eye, and you know your day has instantly gone into the shitter."

Part of a conversation between Aiden and Vanessa :)
'What's wrong with your foot?' I just blurted out.
'I sprained it.' That was easy, effortless, no bullshit Aiden for me.
Unfortunately, his comment didn't help or reassure me. I wouldn't be surprised if someone had hit him with a car and the tendon wasn't even attached to his leg any more, and he was insisting it was just a sprain."

And last one from Vanessa :)
"Good lord. My heart pounded as I sat at the chair behind my desk, and I set my palm over it. What the hell was that? That smile was like a nuclear bomb he had within his reach. I mean, I knew Aiden was attractive, obviously, but when he smiled, there was nothing to prepare you for that weapon of mass destruction."

Review: "Play" by Kylie Scott

Author: Kylie Scott
Title: "Play"
Book 2 in series Stage Dive
Main characters: Malcolm "Mal" Ericson and Anne Rollins

People... this book... I just can't... :) it was sooooo AWESOME :) I mean, I absolutely loved the first one in this series but this one... <sigh> it was even better :) not to mention super hilarious :) I was smiling, giggling and straight up keeling over from laughter throughout almost the entire book... and I say almost, because there definitely were some very serious and sad moments near the end of this story... but my most common reaction was laughter... :) and do you want to know the main reason behind that? ;) if so, let me tell you more about...

Mal :) ok, I already loved him in the previous book, cause you could saw before that he's this super funny, happy-go-lucky kind of a guy :) and in his own book he's even more like that :) and the fact that with his long-ish blond hair, tall, ripped and lean body, he totally has this viking theme going on... let me tell you... it definitely doesn't hurt either ;) but say what you want, it's actually his unpredictable mind that I love the most :) he says the most ridiculous things and I love it :) you never know what's gonna come out of his mouth next :) he's the drummer in the hugely popular Stage Dive band and if you think that means he's good with his hands... you are very correct ;) and of course we can't forget about Anne :) and the fact that she and I share the same name does not affect my love for her at all... :) ok, maybe just a little bit ;) she's this sweet and amazing person, which is even more impressive once you learn more about her past... but it happens near the end of the book, so I can't write about that here :) she often helps people, and sometimes gets into trouble because of that... it's actually one of the times when she's in trouble after helping someone who didn't deserve it, that she gets swept away into the hurricane that is Mal ;) let me tell you more about that... ;)

The book starts when Anne comes home to half empty apartment, her roommate and friend disappeared with all her stuff not returning the money that Anne lent to her when she had troubles... not cool... so now she's in financial troubles herself... then her neighbour, Lauren... more about her in a moment, invites her to a party hosted by her sister and wife of a rock star ;) again, I will explain who's who in a second :) that is where she meets Mal :) he overheards her conversation about the financial troubles and comes up with the perfect solution :) he's in need of a good, fake girlfriend :) there are some serious reasons why he truly wants one, but they are disclosed near the end of the book, so I'm not gonna spoil them to you now... but throughout the story you can start to guess what they can be and it's not good... but back to the good stuff :) the next day he just moves in with her, because it's such a good idea... ;) and that's pretty much it :) and by that I mean it's the only thing I can tell you about, but believe me, their interactions are hilarious... and then a bit emotional... but funny, hilarious and all other similar adjectives are the best to describe them and this book alltogether :) mostly because Mal is totally unpredictable :) but I also love how Anne just kind of goes with the flow with all of that :)

And now about that secondary characters, so you can know who I'm talking about :) first of all there's David and Ev, couple from the first book :) he's the lead guitarist in the band and she works in a coffee shop / and as his assistant ;) next there's Jimmy, David's brother and lead singer of Stage Dive :) he's a recovering addict and his story will come next... :) and we of course can't forget about Lena, his sober companion / assistant... and no, that is not a coincidence that I'm mentioning her name right after Jimmy... <wink wink> :) and of course we have Ben, bass player and the last member of the band :) then we also have Lauren, who I mentioned before :) she's Anne's neighbour and Ev's sister :) and Lizzy, Anne's younger sister :) and I can't believe I almost forgot to mention Reece... :) he's Anne's boss and friend :) she has a crush on him at the beginning of the book :) there are of course more people, but I simply cannot mention them all :) these are the main players in the background that you need to know about ;)

My sister definitely knows me well, cause after finishing the whole series, she told me that this one will be my favourite :) and she was sooooo right ;) don't get me wrong, all of the books are amazing, but we all have our personal preferences when it comes to picking favourite story or characters... :) and this one is definitely mine :) this book has, like all of them, a fantastic writing style :) which is even more impressive with Mal and his unpredictable and charming as hell talking-whatever-the-hell-he-wants :) I absolutely loved the main couple in this story, but all of the secondary characters were written great as well :) it was hilarious and emotional and funny and sexy and did I mentioned hilarious? ;) I read it so quickly, that I think a re-read is needed to make sure if all of my impressions were correct ;) and even though technically it can be read as a standalone, I would recommend you to read this series in order, to see the changes in the characters... plus, they are all really great, so it's not like it's gonna be a chore... ;)

I have a few quotes for you today people :) I would definitely put more, but I can't just quote whole chapters here ;) so this is just a little glimpse into all the hilarious and unpredictable awesomeness that awaits you in the actual book :) happy reading :)

Part of a conversation between Anne and Reece ;)
"'Stay with me. You can crash on my sofa.'
'That's sweet of you.' I tried to laugh, but the noise that came out was more of a strangled cough. My situation sucked too much for humor. Me sleeping on Reece's couch while he went hard at it in the next room with some stranger. No. Not happening. As it was, I felt small and stupid for letting Skye play me. Bearing witness to Reece's oh-so-active sex life would be too much.
'Thanks, Reece. But I'm pretty sure you've done unspeakable things to many, many people on that couch. I'm not sure anyone could sleep there.'
'You think it's haunted by the ghosts of coitus past?'
'It wouldn't surprise me.'"

Part of the first conversation between Mal and Anne ;)
"'I'm Mal,' he said.
'I... I know,' I stuttered.
His smirk heightened. 'I know you know.'
Huh. I kept my mouth shut.
'Sounds like someone had a bad day.'
Nope, I still had nothing. A brain-dead stare was the best I could do."

And a part of that same conversation just a few minutes later ;)
"'Your cheeks have gone all rosy. Are you thinking rude thoughts about me, Anne?'
'Liar,' he taunted in a soft voice. 'You're totally thinking of me with no pants on.'
I totally was.
'That's just gross, dude. A massive invasion of my privacy.' He leaned in closer, his breath warming my ear. 'Whatever you're imagining, it's bigger.'
'I'm not imagining anything.'
'I'm serious. It's basically a monster. I cannot control it.'
'You're pretty much going to need a whip and chair to tame it, Anne.'"

And again Mal and Anne discussing the deal ;)
"'Let's look at it this way. You need money, right?'
I hesitated, but it was the truth. We both knew it. 'Right.'
'I need something too.'
My eyes narrowed. If he started yelling about sexual heeling again, I'd throw him out, cool furniture, drum kit, and all. Or I'd lick him all over. With my current confusion and stress levels, chances were fifty/fifty. An opportunity to throw myself at him might just be too good to miss. After all, how many more chances would I get? My luck had to run out eventually."

The same conversation a bit later ;)
"I tried to find my calm. Why had I never made time for yoga? Deep breathing exercises would have been so useful. When I opened my eyes, Mal smiled back at me serenely. The arrogant jerk. So confident. So hot. And so damn shirtless. What was with that? It was fall in Portland, cool weather, raining on and off. Normal people wore clothes this time of year.
'Can you put a shirt on?'
He scratched at his chin. 'Mmm, no. That's my boundary, sorry, I like your sexy looks too much to get dressed.'
Crap, was I making crazy eyes?
'You're perfect,' he muttered, smirk firmly in place.
Damn it, I was."

And the last one with Anne and Mall a bit further down the road ;)
"He leaned down, getting in close. 'Look at me; I am totally serious. You're not drunky Anne today, you know what you're doing, and I feel like fucking. Let's renegotiate. This agreement is no longer working for me. I wanna talk to my lawyer!'
'Oh, you feel like fucking?'
'Well, yeah. I'm not used to going more than a day or two. It's making me antsy.' He did a little jig on the spot to demonstrate. 'I don't like it. C'mon, Anne. Help a friend out. It'll be good.'
'Hands down, that's the most romantic thing I've ever heard. I can prety much feel my legs just falling wide open for you right now.'"

Random ramblings of a bookworm ;) #4

No clever headline
Yep, still nothing
Unpopular opinions book tag

Usually I write about more than just one thing, but since this idea will take a lot of space... probably... because we all know how I like to babble about books ;) and since I wanted to still have the three parts headline, that's what you got ;) usually I write these posts on sundays and edit them the same day so they are all ready to post first thing on mondays, but since this one will require a lot of thinking and deciding... and probably a brain storming session with my sister, J :) I'm starting it a few days earlier :)

Ok, so first things first, a quick explanation :) I've seen these posts and videos around for quite some time now, and I always enjoy reading/watching them :) why? because they are always so interesting :) basically, it's nine, well... not questions, but more like talking points :) yep, there are nine opinions for you to share with the world :) and believe me, I've heard some very interesting ones already :) but I do feel the need to point out, that this will be only MY opinions :) you may agree with some of them and disagree with the others, but please respect them :) there's no need for the pitchforks people ;) and definitely no need to storm the castle ;) like I always say, I love that we all can have our own opinions and thoughts and impressions about different authors, books and series :) we just have to remember to respect those differences :) and the fact that I don't like something, doesn't mean that it can't or shouldn't be your favourite book :) that being said, let us dive into the good stuff... ;) and one more thing, I tried writing about different books/series and not repeating the same stuff all the time, to give you more examples ;) ok, now we can dive into specifics ;)

#1 a popular book or series that everyone seems to love but you hate :)
the first that comes to mind is Assassins series by Toni Aleo... it's a series of contemporary sports themed romances... I've heard so many good things about it before I finally decided to try them and... well... the beginning was not so bad... I actually liked the characters... but then the further I got into the book, the more I was annoyed by the heroine... and then near the end she just seriously pissed me off... not cool... then I just skimmed the rest of the book and that was it... and with the huge #BookMountain waiting for me I don't think I will ever go back to this author... if you want to know more details let me point you out to my review of the book -> here <- there's one more series I want to mention here, because for a long time it's been a really sore spot in my #BookLife ;) and I am talking about The inheritance cycle by Christopher Paolini, mainly the fourth and last book in it... for those of you who have no idea what sort of books they are, it's YA-ish fantasy series with dragons and magic ;) I know, sounds interesting, right? let me tell you more... I actually quite enjoyed the first three books, and was very excited to read the last one, the big conclusion to this story... because in all the previous books it seems that we were building towards this Big Ending :) yeah... not really... I don't remember much details but I do remember my impressions after reading the book... I was sooo disappointed by the quality and this sort of a "meh" ending, by the multitude of different subplots introduced to the story, that didn't actually go anywhere... I would probably be able to mention much more books and series that I stopped reading because I was disappointed about the quality of the story and/or writing, but I promised to at least try to keep it not very long ;) so let's go straight to the next question :)

#2 a popular book or series that everyone seems to hate but you love :)
the series that I want to write about is not exactly the one that everyone hates, but I hear a lot of very mixed opinions about it... it seems to be a hit-or-miss with a lot of people... and I totally get it, cause it's not a book for everyone... but I absolutely love it :) Shatter me series by Tahereh Mafi :) it's a YA sort of a dystopian-ish trilogy, that has a very unique writing style :) and I can totally get why some people can't stand it, but it went straight to my heart and I loved it from the start :) even though it have some things that I really don't like in books (more about those in #4 and #7) it still didn't changed my opinion :)

#3 a love triangle when the main character ended up with the wrong person or an OTP that you're not a fan of :)
ok, first of all, I felt old, because I had no idea what OTP means :) so with the help of Google ;) I discovered that it stands for One True Pairing :) as in a couple who ended up together in a book :) and to be honest I don't have an answer for this one :) because A -> I don't read many books with a love triangles (go to #7 for the explanation) and if we're talking about the few that I have read, I was satisfied with the ending :) and B -> the same can be said about couples from the books I've read... none comes to mind... I was happy with the pairings, sooo... sorry, no controversies here ;)

#4 a popular genre that you rarely reach for :)
ok, about this one, what you need to know first, is that I am a #RomanceReader :) I need romance in a book to enjoy it :) it doesn't necesserily needs to be ONLY romance, but it has to be at least fifty/fifty between the romance plot and other things that are happening in a book/series :) so there's close to zero chance for me to read a book that has no romance plots in it whatsoever :) but when it comes to romances, I read a lot of subgenres... :) historical, contemporary, paranormal, new adult and so on... :) but a genre that I rarely reach for is young adult :) mainly, I'm getting to old for some of that stories :) and usually there is just sooo much unnecessary angst and more often than not I just scream internally at the characters to talk with each other, because a lot of that drama could be resolved with a conversation :) don't get me wrong, there are some YA series out there that I LOVE, but they are definitely exceptions to the rule for me :)

#5 a popular or beloved character that you don't like :)
it was actually my sister, who helped me remember about that character :) so thank you J :) and it's Charley Davidson from the series named after her written by Darynda Jones... if you don't know it, it's a paranormal-ish series about Charley, a PI and Grim Reaper in one :) to be honest, I read about 5,5 books in this series... I gave up in the middle of the sixth one... at first I really enjoyed those books, they were different and fun and had a very sexy hero... <sigh> Reyes... :) but the further I got into them the more Charley kept pissing me off... I mean, you are a grown up woman, learn from your mistakes... but did she listened to me? noooooo... so after another repeat of her doing stupid stuff that was not thought through I had to quit... for my own mental health :) and the safety of my phone (I read e-books on my phone) because if I kept reading I would throw it against the wall... ;)

#6 a popular author that you can't seem to get into :)
I have two answers for this one :) first one is Cassandra Clare... to be honest, I read the first three books in her Mortal instruments series, but it was years ago and in translation, so I'm not counting that ;) and even though the ideas seem like something I could enjoy, it's the stuff around the author that makes me keep my distance... the accusations and law suits about plagiarism... and the bullying... all of that kind of ruined her books for me, so there's very little chance I'm ever gonna read her work again... if you don't know what I'm talking about, a quick Google search will give you all the answers... ;) plus, I am a huge fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon so I'm kind of staying on her side of this conflict... ;) the second author that I can't get into is Christine Feehan... and guys, I know that she's a super popular author with a bunch of series, some of them very long, but... it's just not for me... I tried to read the first books in two different series, and couldn't finish either one... I don't know, her style just doesn't click for me :) and I am not saying that it's awful, absolutely not... :) she has lots of fans for a reason, I'm just not gonna be one of them :)

#7 a popular book trope that you're tired of seeing :)
for this one I also have two :) first of all... love triangles... ugh... I am really tired of seeing love triangles, and it's one of the reasons why I rarely read YA books, cause this is a very popular trope in those books... I just personally think that there's sooo much more that can make a book and the story interesting than the constant back-and-forth between a girl and two guys (or vice versa) don't get me wrong, I don't automatically hate all love triangles, but it's very hard to write a good one... :) second thing that I really hate in books are women whose lives evolve solely around a guy... I can't stand women whose only reason to be alive is to be with "her man"... and remember, I am a #RomanceReader, so I have nothing against love, but I adore when heroines of my books are smart... brave... funny... and just have a life of their own... :) they pursue their dreams and passions and look for a partner in a man :) I loooove reading about those women :) they are always an inspiration :)

#8 a popular book or series that you have no intention of reading :)
Ok, for this one I have to say Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon... I know, I know... it's a hugely popular series, especially now with the TV show and everything... and I know that some of my #BookBesties who will be reading this are huge fans of this one, but me... I have no intention whatsoever to read this series... I'm not curious... not even a little bit :) and I know it's suppose to be this epic love story and all, but time traveling...? I don't think so... ;) besides, one look at my huge #BookMountain and I know how many other books I am very curious about... so I won't run out of things to read for a long time... ;)

#9 they say "the book is always better than the movie" but... a movie or a TV show adaptation that you prefer more than the book :)
I actually have one of each :) but I am gonna start with the movie :) and I can't believe it took me all that time to figure this out :) when I finally found one it was <facepalm... of course it's this one> :) and I am talking about my favourite movie of all time ;) "Stardust" :) I absolutely love that movie... it has fantasy, magic, romance, comedy, adventure, humor, all in one :) I do have to admit that I saw the movie first, and I loved it so much, that I decided to read the book, since the book is always better... yeah... not for me and not this time... the book is actually quite different than the movie and maybe that's why I didn't enjoy it that much... I don't remember many details, cause I read it years ago, but I do remember that I was disappointed... as for the TV show, I'm gonna have to go with "The vampire diaries" :) even though I no longer watch it, I was a fan for quite some time, but the books... well, that's a whole different story... again, I tried to read them after I started watching the show, and I was not able to finish even the first one... my sister powered through two or three of them and then surrendered too... they just weren't good...  and I am not saying they were awful and no one should read them, they are just... not my kind of entertainment ;)

Ok, that's a wrap people :) I hope we are still friends :) and don't hate me for my opinions... I'm certainly not gonna hate you if you will say that a series or an author that I love, you hate :) I have no problem with respecting our differences of opinions :) and with that in mind I would love for you to share with me your own unpopular opinions :) you can do it here or on my fb page :) and it doesn't need to be all nine points, it can be just one or two... :) whatever inspires you :) looking forward to reading your thoughts ;)

Review: "Blue-eyed devil" by Lisa Kleypas

Author: Lisa Kleypas
Book 2 in series Travis family
Main characters: Hardy Cates and Haven Travis

First of all I want to warn you that this review will contain some minor-to-medium spoilers from book #1 :) so if you want to avoid all of them, don't read this one ;) but before you completely avert your eyes and maybe browse some of my other reviews looking for a good recommendation... and you really should ;) read this very quick spoiler free sentence :) this book was wonderful... very sad and emotional at times, since the heroine was a victim of abuse, but it was a beautifully written story with a heart warming happy ending :) to all of you who want to know more, let us dive into all the details... :)

We met Hardy in the previous book... he was a childhood friend and first love of Liberty, the heroine of that story... he resurfaced near the end of that first book to sort of create this kind of a triangle between her and Gage Travis, but not really :) maybe because I was #TeamGage from the moment I met him so the fact that they ended together made me smile :) but back to Hardy... :) even though he did some really not cool stuff at the end of that book, I was really looking forward to reading his happy ending... especially once I knew it will be with Haven ;) but a bit more about him first ;) Hardy is extremely ambitious, ruthless in getting what he wants... now he's very successful, but after coming from nothing he still searches for that elusive "something more" :) Haven is the youngest of four siblings, and the only daughter... she has the most liberal opinions and doesn't want to use all the perks from "being a Travis" :) she was a pretty new character for me and since a lot of bad things happened to her in the first few chapters I really liked how she was able to build her strenght up again and deal, or at least start to deal, with everything that happened to her...

They actually met on Gage and Liberty's wedding... and there was a bit of a mistaken identity thing there... she followed him to the wine cellar thinking he's her boyfriend and before he could tell her the truth, and in his defence he tried ;) they shared a very hot kiss... :) after that they both quickly discovered who the other person was... ;) but nothing more happened, since the next day, she eloped with her boyfriend, Nick... and since her father does not approve of him, he cuts her off... and the next about year and a half is a bad part of her life... since it turns out that Nick is an abusive narcissist... I won't say anything more, but it's not pretty... it was painful to read sometimes... but after a particularly horrible event, she runs away and calls her brother... this is the moment when he finds out about any of that, since she kept it all a secret... he takes her away and helps her get a quick divorce... and that's when the better part of this story starts... :) she slowly and with the help of a therapist, starts to deal with everything that happened to her... understanding why Nick was the way he was and how to cope with all of that... that's also when Hardy comes back into her life... :) the relationship between them... if I can even call it that at the beginning, starts slowly... there is definitely attraction and chemistry there, but all that she's going through on her own, plus the fact that he's the "family enemy" doesn't make all of that easier... but it slowly builds into something more... and when she finally trusts him with the truth of what happened... it grows even more... :) but it's a slow and sometimes painful process...

Besides the main couple, we also get more glimpses of the future heroes of the books, Jack and Joe, the other brothers in the family :) and I am definitely curious what kind of women will get their attention... but there was someone who was definitely a scene stealer for me... and that was Todd, Haven's friend :) he's a "bipossible" :) I just love that word ;) interior designer and he was like a breath of fresh air every time he appeared in the story :) and of course let's not forget about the couple from the first book :) I loved to see them and their new little addition ;)

It was a story very hard to read sometimes... not because of the writing style, because it was spectacular as always in her books... but the story was heart breaking... to see how Haven crumbled under Nick's abuse little by little... how horrible effect he had on her... it was hard... fortunately for me, then I got to see how she built herself up again... and to see that kind of a journey was very rewarding... don't worry, there was a lot of definitely lighter scenes and themes in the book, but overall it was a pretty serious story... but it was expected since it was a serious topic... there were a few surprising twists along the way, but ultimately the ending was truly beautiful and satisfying :) and even though it's a part of a series, this book can be read as a standalone :)

I have just a few quotes for you today, because all the best ones were too spoilerefic and appeared in the second part of the book :) so be sure to check it out and see for yourselves how big of a smoothtalker Hardy really is... ;) happy reading :)

Part of a conversation between Haven and Hardy in that wine cellar ;) Haven first
"My heart pounded violently. 'I've never done anything like this before. I-I feel like I should pass out or scream or something...'
'I'd rather you didn't.'
'I really don't want anyone knowing about this. I wish I didn't know about it. I wish...'
'You talk fast when you're nervous,' he observed.
'I talk fast all the time. And I'm not nervous. I'm in shock. I wish I could undo this. I feel like one of those error pages you get on the computer...'
'A Four-Oh-Four?'
'Yes. This is a major Four-Oh-Four.'"

Part of a conversation between Haven and Jack when he offers her a job :)
"'Thanks, but I couldn't,' I said when Jack first broached the idea of me taking the job.
'Why not? You'd be great at it.'
'Reeks of nepotism,' I said.
'So there are other more qualified people for the position.'
I began to smile at his persistence. 'And they'll complain if you hire your sister.'
'See,' Jack said easily, 'that's the whole point of having my own company. I can hire Bozo the fucking clown if I want.'
'That's so flattering Jack.'"

Another short exchange between Haven and Jack ;)
"'I don't want to be a third wheel on your date,' I protested.
'You won't bother us,' he said. 'And you're not even a full-sized wheel. More like a training wheel.'"

Part of a conversation between Haven and Todd ;) and just one of the rerasons why I love him so much ;) Haven first
"'I'm having a relationship with a jacket,' I said.
'Was there a sale at Neiman's?'
'No, it's not mine, it's a guy's jacket.' I went on to tell him all about Hardy Cates, even going so far as to describe what had happened at Liberty and Gage's wedding almost two years ago, and then about meeting him in the bar. 'So I just put on the jacket and watched a movie in it,' I concluded. 'In fact, I'm wearing it right now. How far outside of normal is that? On a scale of one to ten, how crazy am I?'
'Depends. What movie did you watch?'"

And a little interaction between Hardy and Haven ;) Hardy first
"'You haven't seen the rest of the apartment,' he said.
'I'm sure it's grerat.'
'You should see the bedroom, at least.'
I saw a dance of mischief in his eyes. He was teasing me. 'No, thank you.'
Hardy leaned over me, all brawn and hormones, bracing a hand on the wall. ''Has anyone ever told you,' he asked conversationally, 'that your eyes are the exact color of Dr Pepper?'
I laughed, disarmed. 'Do you get far with lines like that?'
He seemed to relish my amusement. 'Far enough, with the right woman.'"

Review: "Changing the game" by Jaci Burton

Author: Jaci Burton
Book 2 in series Play by play
Main characters: Gavin Riley and Elizabeth Darnell

First of all, I need to admit that I needed a break while reading this book... but don't get me wrong, not because it was awful or anything, but because my mood changed and I didn't have as much fun as I should have while I'm reading about some hot athlete ;) I mean, if you need a visual just look at that cover... ;) so I decided to listen to the voice of my inner bookworm and skip to something else... and again, it was the best decision ever :) cause after a short break I got back to this book and it was much better ;) and that only proved my point :) so now let me tell you more about this book and why you should put it, and this series, on your list ;)

We met both main characters in book #1 :) Gavin is the brother of Mick, the main hero from that story, and Elizabeth was his agent... she's not anymore because of some stuff that I can't say more about, in case you haven't read that book yet :) but let me tell you more about our couple :) Elizabeth is a bad-ass agent for a lot of athletes :) she's smart, tough and uses all she can to her advantage, including the fact that she's smoking hot :) she's one of the best in her business :) and even though she's no longer Mick's agent, Gavin is still her client :) and about him... ;) Gavin is a baseball player :) I could probably go back to the book and found you the exact name of the position he plays, but to be honest, I know nothing about baseball, so it's probably safer if I remain as vague about sport related details as possible ;) but since he plays regularly, you can assume that he's really ripped... and that is totally true ;) again, just look at that cover... <sigh> ;) he's this easy going, laid back guy, who's a bit tired of living in the shadow of his big brother... he's also a huge ladies man... ;) but who can blame them, since he's charming as hell ;)

They've known each other for about seven years, since she's been his agent for that long :) she's actually been in love with him for quite some time now... although can you really call it love? but either way, she definitely felt something more towards him, and he had no clue about it :) but around the time she messed up big time with his brother, she kissed Gavin... and that definitely left an impression... ;) so a few months later he finally hunts her down to... how can I say it... seal the deal ;) they have this short termed fling, that ends because, well... this is the only outcome when you're not really communicating with each other ;) but don't worry, there's much more going on in the book, but I can't spoil you every little thing now can I? ;) so let me just say that it's hot, hot hot ;) with an exception for a sweet scene here and there... but mostly hot ;)

Besides the main couple we have lots of fantastic secondary characters :) first and foremost, the whole Riley family :) there's Mick, from previous book, along with his fiancee and her teenage son ;) although Mick is acting throughout most of the book like a real jerk... I get that he has a point, and he's still mad for a reason, but enough is enough ;) don't worry, he finally gets it ;) and then there's Jenna, their sister :) and a heroine of the next book :) and I have to say that I can't wait to read the story about her and a certain sexy hockey player... <coughs> Ty <coughs> ;) I don't know why, because I have no clue about hockey either, but there's something about hockey players that gets me all dreamy... ;) and of course we cannot forget about the parents :) I love them :) they are both so wonderful and welcoming and I can't get enough of them :) but there are also some new faces, especially Shawnelle and Haley, wives of Gavin's teammates :) they quickly became good friends with Elizabeth :) but all of them definitely added another awesome layer to this book :)

I was afraid of reading this book, cause I didn't really knew how this particular two can end up together... and after my a bit rough start, I was starting to doubt my initial love of this series... fortunately it was only because I was in a mood for something else... and when I got back to this story... damn... it all clicked in the best possible way ;) writing style is really good, similar to book #1 :) so the main adjective I can use is hot, hot, hot... and yes, I needed to repeat that more than once cause it was that hot ;) don't worry, it was also funny and with a lovely ending ;) so I can definitely recommend it with a clear conscience :) and more, my sister already read the next four books, and she says they only keep getting better and better, so I am really looking forward to reading them :) and I can already start to see a pattern of introducing a bit better main character or characters from the next book in the story you're reading, which I love, cause it gives me an additional glimpse and makes me that much more curious about the next book ;)

I have for you just a few quotes today to give you a little glimpse into what's waiting for you inside the book... don't worry, there were a lot of really good ones I couldn't share here because they were A -> too spoilery, B -> too hot, sexy and inappropriate or C -> all of the above ;) but be sure there's much more waiting for you once you read it all :) happy reading :)

Part of the conversation between Elizabeth and Gavin ;)
"'You surprise me, Gavin.'
'Yeah? In what way?'
She turned her back to him again and shrugged. 'In a lot of ways.'
'Wanna give me a list?'
'No. Your ego is inflated enough.'
'Now that hurts my feelings.'
'No, it doesn't.'
'You're right. It doesn't.'"

And another conversation between them when she discovers one of his talents ;) Elizabeth first
"'What are you making?'
'Pan-seared salmon with pasta and spinach cream sauce.'
She laughed. 'No, really. What are you making?'
He slanted her a look. 'That's really what I'm making.'
'I'm stunned. And will be highly impressed if you don't poison me.'"

Part of the scene when Shawnelle and Haley try to give Elizabeth advice... it involed a lot of alcohol ;) Shawnelle first
"'See, this is the problem with men and women and relationshits. Shit. Relasinsips. Dammit. Relationships. There, I got it. Lies and games and positioning. You should try honesty. Communication.' She tilted her head at Haley. 'Look how well communication worked for Haley. She's having great sex now.'
'I'm already having great sex.'
Shawnelle snorted. 'You know what I mean, missy. Don't try to double-talk me. I'm a lawyer.'
'Yeah, but you're a drunk lawyer.'"

Part of Elizabeth's inner monologue ;)
"Elizabeth nursed a cup of coffee and the largest glass of orange juice ever. Whose brilliant idea had it been to have margaritas? Hers, probably. Ugh. This was a good time for a self-reminder on the evils of alcohol and why she very rarely overimbibed. Weren't girlfriends supposed to watch over you and prevent you from doing stupid shit like this? As she recalled, Shawnelle and Haley, her partners in crime, had gone along for the ride with her. At least she took comfort in the fact they were probably suffering just as badly as she was this morning."
