Make a deal with the devil and you might get what you want, but will it be what you need?
Jennifer Sylvester wants one thing, and that one thing is NOT to be Tennessee’s reigning Banana Cake Queen. Ever the perpetual good girl and obedient daughter, Jennifer is buckling under the weight of her social media celebrity, her mother’s ambitions, and her father’s puritanical mandates. Jennifer is officially desperate.
And desperate times call for Cletus Winston.
Cletus Winston is a puzzle wrapped in a mystery covered in conundrum sauce, and now he’s in a pickle. Despite being convinced of his own omniscience, extortion by the exalted Banana Cake Queen of Green Valley has taken him completely by surprise. So… what’s a maniacal mastermind to do?
Likely, the last thing you expect.
‘Beard Science’ is the third book in the Winston Brothers series, is a full-length romantic comedy novel, and can be read as a standalone.
I got the ARC of this amazing book in exchange for an honest review, but trust me... I would read it either way, cause I am a huge fan of this author... :) and even though I love Penny Reid and her writing style as much as I do, I did not expect to fall in love with this particular story THIS much... ;) this is book #3 in her Winston brothers series, but can work easily as a standalone... although if it will be your first dive into the amazingness that is Penny and her books, trust me... a fair warning... you will fall in love with her smart and unique stories and you'll need all of them in your lives... ;) #TrueStory ;) ok, now that this little explanation is out of the way, let me tell you a bit about this particular book... because... *sighs happily* I just loved it soooo much... ;) ok, focus woman :) although... I have to add that ever since I finished this book... and it was a few days ago... I am in such a great mood... not saying that it's all because of this story, but... ;) ok, NOW let me tell you about "Beard science" :)
Jennifer Sylvester is know as the Banana Cake Queen... does she want to be known like that? turns out, not really... because Jennifer have dreams of her own... problem is, she doesn't really know how to pursue them... so when an opportunity to *convince* Cletus Winston to help her, a guy she refers to at one point as maniacally clever, and trust me, it's definitely a great description ;) and by convince I mean she blackmails him ;) which really surprises him... and that is not easy to do... :) that's how everything starts... theirs is definitely a slow burn romance, and that was one of my favourite aspects of this story... *sighs happily* although only one of soooo many I loved :) I adored to see how they grew closer and closer with each meeting between them, how their interactions changed, how they started to think more and more about one another... it was just soooo much fun to read about... :) and trust me, I am in no way able to truly articulate how lovely and wonderful their journey to be together was, because I have no words good enough to describe how much I loved it... :)
One of the main reasons why I am such a huge Penny's fan, are the characters she creates... :) each book and each couple tells a different story, becuase of the people she writes about... by all means, they are not perfect, all of them are flawed, but in such an honest and raw way... you read about them and feel like they're real people... not fictional characters... you want to be their friends and spend time with them... or grab one or the other all to yourself ;) they stay deep under your skin and you tend to think about them days after finishing a book... and somehow after putting down her stories I always feel empowered and inspired... in the best possible way :) the same thing happened this time :) Jennifer was definitely this a bit *mousy* type, at least when it comes to the personality, because she looked like a housewife from the fifties ;) but throughout the story, she changed... nothing out of the blue and major in a day, but one small thing after another... ;) Cletus on the other hand... *sighs* oh my... I never thought I would fall so hard in love with him... seriously ;) I loved him as a secondary character in other books in this series, he is after all the most peculiar of the Winston siblings, but if I'm being honest, I never saw him as a material for the main hero... I couldn't really pictured it... but boy was I wrong... :) because what Penny gave me in this book was... *sighs dreamily* I was thinking long and hard about it, but it's the truth... the more I think about it, the more I'm sure... Cletus and Jennifer dethroned Alex and Sandra from "Love hacked" as my favourite Penny Reid's couple... boom *mic drop* I said it, it's out there... ;) trust me, no one... and I mean NO ONE is more shocked by this than yours truly... :) but I can't fight it any longer... *sighs dreamily* so why bother? ;) I love that this is the longest Penny book up to this point, because I needed all those chapters... I would love it even more if it was twice as long ;) in the case of Penny's books the more is ALWAYS better ;) I was seriously swooning in certain parts and that was just the beginning... :)
Of course the awesomeness of the main couple is not the only fantastic part of this book... ;) we can't forget about the secondary characters :) and to be honest, this book works as a standalone, yes, but I highly recommend you read the other ones as well :) because that previous knowledge definitely makes it that much more fun to see little gems hidden in plain sight, and all those interactions between the siblings or the couples from other books will be so much better :) we certainly have all other Winston siblings, and they are quite a bunch :) after all there are six brothers and one sister :) and what an amazing seven they create :) I'm not gonna go into more details about them because they are way too complex for me to just simplify them in a sentence or two :) if you read some of her other books, you know what to expect, if not... well, then you are definitely in for a treat :) but trust me, leave your expectations and trying to predict what's gonna happen before you start reading this story... you will NEVER be prepared for the awesomeness that is Penny and her ninja writing skills ;)
If I could, I would give this book all the stars... and like half the moon... ;) but I can't so five stars will somehow have to be enough, to try and show you how much I loved it... it's definitely not enough, but I can't give more :) I loved every single thing about this book... I feel like no other story will be as good as this one... like no other romance will grab my heart as this one... like no other book will amaze me as this one... :) I am almost sure that this conviction will ease with time, but as of this moment... I have read my favourite book of the 2016 :) and not only so far... I am declaring right here and now... I'm pretty sure that nothing I'll read by the end of this year will be better ;) I still feel like nothing I will ever read will be as good as this one, but I'm hoping this feeling will pass in a week... or a month ;) with each and every Penny Reid's book I read, I'm falling more and more in love with her writing style... because damn... the woman just keeps getting better and better... how is that even possible?!? :) and this book has something I absolutely love... two perspective's :) which is done exceptionally phenomenal in this case... and that was not an easy thing to achieve... as I mentioned, Cletus is... very original :) and I felt like reading chapters from his point of view she captured it sooooo well :) his and Jennifer's chapters were so different... but I loved them both equally :) I could sit here and go on and on and on how amazing this book was... trust me, I would drone on about it and we could be here all day... ALL... DAY... :) #NoJoke ;) but why waste any more of your time, if you could spend it one clicking this amazing gem and seeing for yourself how fantastic this story truly is... go on... do it... it's soooo worth it ;) happy reading :)
