Book 0,5 in series Austin brothers
Main characters: Ryan Gennery and Mila Austin
Mila Austin and her best friend, Lucas Gennery, made a pact: graduate college, return home, and start the rest of their lives … together.
One phone call changed everything.
Now, Mila is back in Radeno, Texas, lost and alone with an ache in her heart eased by the one person she shouldn’t get close to—Lucas’s older brother, Ryan.
Grief bonds them, tethers them in a way Mila didn’t see coming, and when it’s time to let go, she’s not sure if she can.
Because finally letting go of Lucas could mean losing Ryan as well.
Saying goodbye is never easy, but the first time is the hardest.
I received an ARC of this stunning novella in exchange for an honest review and I couldn't be more happy that I signed up for it... because it was absolutely beautiful... the writing style, all of the emotions and feelings packed in such a short story... I am truly amazed :) and since it's a novella, my review will be a little bit shorter than usual as well, because I don't want to spoil you everything that happens in the book ;) but I will tell you a bit... ;) I really want to share more, but I'm afraid that once I start, I'm gonna spill everything, so this shorter version just have to be enough ;)
Novella starts from the moment when Mila comes home after learning that Lucas, her best friend since they were little, and a person she thought she would spend the rest of her life with, died in a car accident... make no mistakes, they never were a couple, not in an official sort of way, but the feelings were there... but since they were accepted to different colleges, they decided to stay friends and start everything once they graduate... unfortunately, they never got the chance... she comes back home for the funeral and that's when she meets Ryan again... Lucas was his younger brother and they were very close, so Mila feels like he is the only person, who truly understands what she's going through... I don't want to say anything more about what happens between them, or about both of them individually, because like I mentioned before, it's a pretty short story, so let me jump to something different now :)
Besides Mila and Ryan, who obviously are the main focus of this story, I need to mention Colton, Tanner and Chase :) they are Mila's older brothers, and I can only assume, from the name of this series, that all of them will get their own story... :) or I am really hoping for that, because from the glimpses we got about them in this novella, I cannot wait to get to know them even more :) they are a very protective and interesting bunch, and that is all I'm going to say at this point... but once you'll read this novella, you will definitely join me in the eager await for the first full lenght book in this series :)
I am truly amazed how much I fell in love with this novella... I definitely did not expect to care so much for those characters, nor did I expect to get so emotional a few times... but the fantastic writing style pulled me in from the very start, and kept me turning page after page until I finished this story... and what a lovely ending it has... *sighs* :) this is a new author for me, but after this novella I am definitely picking up some of her other books, because that writing style... that hit-me-in-all-the-feels writing style does not happen to me often and I have to see if her other books are as amazing as this one :) so be sure to pick this lovely gem and give it a try :)
