Blog tour + Giveaway + Review: "Guiding fate" by Tamra Lassiter

Book 4 in series Role of fate
Main characters: William "Will" Everton and Melanie "Mel" Woodside

Melanie Woodside, ER nurse and single mom, has endured suffering of her own. Her ne’er-do-well husband bailed after learning she was pregnant with their first child. Now he’s back and threatening her new life. When a hot Marine moves in next door, Melanie has more than enough on her plate, without trying to heal her new neighbor as well. But a handsome man battling the wounds of war is hard to resist, especially when he and her son take an instant liking to each other. And having him close makes her feel safer.

Will Everton is a hero of the Iraqi conflict, according to the Marine Corps, his friends, and his family. The problem is, he feels more like a mess. Plagued by headaches and nightmares, Will just wants solitude to glue his wounded psyche back together. That means keeping his distance from his pretty new neighbor. But when her son refuses to recognize the boundaries between Will’s house and his own, neither Will nor Melanie can resist a little boy’s pleas for togetherness. If Will’s presence deters Melanie’s ex, all the better.

Can Will trust himself to be the strong, steady man they need? And can Melanie trust herself not to repeat the mistakes of her past? Fate brought them together … will it be enough to keep them here?

I received an ARC of this lovely gem in exchange for an honest review and I am in love with this charming story :) it was exactly what I needed... a short but sweet book about two grown ups... ;) and after reading a very angsty story filled with a whole lot of unnecessary drama recently, this one was perfect :) and don't worry, if you haven't read the previous books in this series, because I haven't either :) at least not yet ;) this contemporary romance can be read as a standalone, but you will want to read all others after it, I can promise you that :) because I am totally in love with this little town and need to know more... :)

So now let me tell you more about the main characters :) Mel is an ER nurse and a single mom to a very cute little boy... Michael is five and as adorable as you can imagine ;) Will is an ex Marine, living next door to her, in the house belonging to his great aunt... and I have to say that they have a very unexpected first meeting... ;) and by that I mean that she whacks him in the head with a flashlight... ;) I kid you not :) in her defense, it's very late at night and she walks in the garden trying to find a dog she babysits for friends... unfortunately she's not aware she wandered into her neighbours backyard, which according to her knowledge should be empty :) so when she turns around and suddenly sees a tall stranger, her reaction is perfectly normal and acceptable :) I am actually really proud of her :) Will is there to watch over his aunt Bunny's house, or his great aunt if you want to be really specific ;) while she recovers after hip surgery... so they have not such a great start but it gets better :) what I really love about their relationship is that it takes a bit time... they both have issues stopping them from falling head over heels in love with someone... but on the other hand, the slowly building connection between them can't be ignored :) but I adored that they both know what they are signing up for :) theirs is a short but definitely sweet story :) and I loved seeing how that connection between them changed them both in time... opening them up to one another... :) I would say more, but I don't want to tell you too many details about what obstacles are on their way to a happily ever after, because since it's a pretty short story I don't want you to know everything before you even start it :)

Besides our main couple we have a bunch of secondary characters that made me fall in love with this town and this series... :) and even though this book absolutely can be read as a standalone, I am totally gonna go back and read all others, especially the first one, cause I am already in love with Kate and Hunter and I need to read a book where they are the main couple :) little Michael was adorable and his connection to Will was lovely... but I think it's the "older generation" who really stole my heart :) first we have aunt Bunny, Mel's neighbour and Will's great aunt, who played a role of a little matchmaker ;) and I absolutely have to mention granny Simms... :) now she was a delight... I mean, who wouldn't fall in love with a woman who is a part of a purse-smacking incident after a bingo session :) yes, you read that correctly ;) and even though she was only mentioned a few times, she's definitely a scene-stealer everytime she appears :)

I really loved this book :) I finished it before I knew what was happening ;) it was like "just one more chapter..." and then there were no more chapters left ;) the writing style was really great and I am looking forward to reading other books from this author :) the adjectives that come to mind, when I think how to describe this little gem the best are lovely, sweet, charming and so on... ;) so if you need a feel good story, with characters that you will immidiately root for, definitely give this one a try :) because it is a perfect read if you want that warm and fuzzy feelings inside... ;)

But if you are still not sure, I have for you the best news ever :) the first book in this series is currently FREE!!! :) Hunter and Kate, the main couple from this story, also appear in "Guiding fate" and I am definitely curious about how they got together, so I already picked this one up :) it's the perfect opportunity for you guys to check the writing style and get to know the people in this little town a bit more :)

And here's the giveaway :)

a Rafflecopter giveaway About the author:

I live outside Washington, D.C. with my wonderfully supportive husband and two daughters, one of which is approaching her teenage years. Help us all! If that isn’t enough, we have a Great Dane and an English Bulldog to keep us on our toes. It’s crazy around here, and I love every minute of it!

Writing is my third career. I didn’t set out to be a writer, it was just meant to be. My Mechanical Engineering degree from Virginia Tech prepared me well for my first career as an Engineer/Program Manager. My second career was in Human Resources. Long story, but I figured it out. I believe the best start for a writing career is to be a reader first, and I’ve been an avid reader my whole life. I’ve loved to read ever since I picked up my first Nancy Drew mystery in the fourth grade. Now, I love reading just about everything, but I don’t read sad books. I don’t watch sad movies either for that matter, no matter how many awards they’ve
won. Life’s too short, and who needs all that strife to bring us down?

Many of my words have been penned late into the evening, which explains why I’ve never viewed whatever television show you recommend to me. I would, however, love to hear your recommendations for a great read!
