Books I can't wait to get my hands on ;) may edition

Well hello there my awesome people :) how time flies by... ;) because it is yet again end of the month, and that means I get to ramble about all the books I can't wait to read from the upcoming month... :) and I am not talking about all the ARCs that I am currently in the middle of reading... it is like abyss of awesomeness for me, because... well, free books ahead of the release dates :) and most of them are sooo good... ;) but their time will come, and this post is about something else :) so I'm gonna talk to you about five absolutely fantastic books that I am really looking forward to... it was hard to choose the one I can't wait to read the most, but ultimately it had to be... drumroll, please... ;)

"Grin and beard it" by the phenomenal Penny Reid :) it's book #2 in her Winston brothers series and I am so in love with all six of them that it's not even funny :) it's gonna be a contemporary romance and if you follow my blog for some time now, you know how much I love Penny and her writing style :) she is my ray of sunshine in the sea of mediocre writing :) her books are hilarious, quirky, smart, unique and just perfect... <sighs> :) and I may or may not read an excerpt from this particular book in one of her newsletters... that was a mistake ;) becuase the waiting time for this story was significantly harder after I did that ;) but now it's just a few weeks away and I'm super excited :)

The second book that I can't wait to read... and it's just around the corner ;) is "A court of mist and fury" by Sarah J. Maas :) it's the sequel in her A court of thorns and roses trilogy :) I read the first one a few weeks ago, so my waiting period was not very long, but don't worry, I will suffer with the rest of you waiting for the conclusion to this gem :) it's a fantasy story, a retelling of sorts with magic and all sorts of creatures... :) book #1 had "Beauty and the beast" vibe in it, but I have a feeling that in this second one more stories will be incorporated into it :) and I am all for it, because I loved the beginning and can't wait to see where all of this goes :) I am also definitely looking forward to writing the review for this book, where I will be able to share a bit more spoilers, cause I deliberately wrote my review of the first book totally spoiler free :) we will see how this story will turn out, cause I certainly have my ideas that I would love to see unfold in this one... only time will tell if I was right ;)

The third book I really want to read is "Idol" by Kristen Callihan :) it is the only one without a cover yet (as of yesterday when I wrote and edited this post) that's why it's missing from the collage of the covers below :) it is book #1 in her new series, VIP :) and believe me, I am dying to see what she has for us now... :) cause I already love her sports themed series, Game on :) and her paranormal / steampunk series Darkest London :) so when I heard that she will publish a book about a rock star I was like "hell yeah... gimme gimme gimme..." :) I am a big fan of her writing style and the way she crafts stories and characters, so my expectations are pretty high... but I have yet to be disappointed by one of her books, so I'm pretty optimistic as well ;)

Book #4 in this post is actually a standalone... or it's a standalone as of this moment, because who knows... maybe it will turn out to be the beginning of a series :) and it is "Showmance" by the lovely L. H. Cosway :) and again, I am already a fan of her writing style, because I absolutely adore her Hearts series and Rugby series that she co-writes with amazing Penny Reid... and yes, that is the same Penny Reid I mentioned in the second paragraph of this post :) so it's yet another book that I have very high hopes for, but at the same time I'm pretty certain that it will be just as good as I hope, if not better :) another contemporary romance that will brighten my days... :)

And last but not least we have a paranormal romance :)  "The darkest torment" is the newest addition in Lords of the underworld series written by Gena Showalter :) and a word of warning, you do need to read this one in order, otherwise you will be totally lost... trust me :) but it's a very interesting series with ancient warriors cursed to house demons in their bodies as a punishemnt for their involvement in opening the Pandora's box... :) and even though the main hero of this book was not the one I wanted to read about next, I am curious nonetheless what Gena Showalter prepared for him :) I was really looking forward to read about a few other possible couples, but I guess I do understand that some of them needed a bit more time and build up before a book of their own :) plus, I did enjoyed all books in this series, even if I wasn't sure about the pairing before, so I'm hoping this one will be just as fun and entertaining :)

That's a wrap for today people :) I shared with you all sorts of different stories that I can't wait to read in the upcoming month... or to be more precise, the books that I want to read that are gonna be published in the month of may, cause I have no idea if I will be able to read all of them so soon... because of all the ARCs :) my sister is already pretty mad at me, because I still have yet to read books I wrote about last month... and the month before that... ups... :) but I will get to it :) I promise :) I'm sure we have some books in common, but what else are you looking forward to get in the upcoming month? let me know, cause I'm always looking for stories to add to my ever growing #BookMountain :) leave a comment here, or contact me on Goodreads or on my facebook page :)

Review: "The tower must fall" by S. E. Bennett

Author: S. E. Bennett
Standalone, but... ;)
Main characters: Marek and Enyo

I got a free copy of this amazing book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review and I am sitting here speechless... I am struggling to find just the right words so I can show you how absolutely fantastic this book was... because it is literally hurting me, that more people haven't heard about it... because this book... this world... those characters... the writing style... <sighs> I am totally in love... ;) the only flaw I can think of, is that the book was too short... ;) and don't get me wrong, it's not rushed or anything, it's just that I need more... much, much more... ;) so let me try to explain, as best as I can, why you should drop everything and go read it now ;)

We have a world... a world where characters from fairy tales actually existed a few hundred years ago... they were queens, kings and monsters... but the stories we think we know, are not exactly true... the truth is much more complicated... and dark... dun dun duuuunnnn... sorry, but the moment needed a dramatic musical interruption ;) where was I? oh yeah... the retellings that appeared in this book were absolutely stunning... I was hooked from the very first one, and immediately wanted more... :) the twists and surprises that we can find along the way in them, are fascinating... :) I'm not gonna tell you any specific details, because it's really best if you read them on your own... ok, maybe just one, since it appears very early in the book... :) what would you say if I told you that Cinderella wasn't an innocent victim in the story we know... are you curious...? good :) but back to the world... :) so all those stories actually happened, and the characters actually lived in different lands in this world... and there are so many cities mentioned in this book... some in more details, some just teased... so the sheer depth of possibilities for future stories is endless... and I need to read them all ;) but in this world, for the last few hundred years, all the magical creatures, or Cryptids as they call themselves, are hunted and killed... they are feared and hated everywhere, except the Sanctuary, a hidden place where they can live in peace... but not everything is as it seems and there are whispers that are becoming louder each time, about Cryptids and how they want to live openly and free... :) I'm not gonna say more, because there are many things that were complete surprises along the way, but just be prepared... for... well, pretty much anything :)

Now that you know a bit more about the world, let me tell you something about the characters :) Marek and Enyo are definitely the main pair :) and I don't necesserily mean as a couple ;) he is a traveller, moving with his family from place to place, never settling down for long... he's a bit clumsy, and I can totally relate to that ;) but definitely brave and compassionate :) he's the seventh son of the seventh son and there's definitely more to him than even he knows... ;) I absolutely adored him... and Enyo... she's this dangerous and mysterious girl, trained from the very beginning of her life by the Animus, a group of deadly knights who hunt down Cryptids... but she's no longer a part of them... I won't go into the reasons why, because spoilers, obviously ;) they met in one of the cities and soon after he saves her life... :) which according to her rules, makes her bound to protect him until that debt is paid... and since she is still hunted by the Animus, they have to run... Enyo promises to take him to the Sanctuary becasue... well... let's just say that both of them have something special... ;) I loved the change in them... how they influenced each other throughout the whole story... both of them evolved so much from the moment we met them... in the best possible way :) besides them, there is a diverse cast of secondary characters... and I mean really diverse... I can't tell you some things, even though I would really love to... ;) but men and women that we meet along the way are sooo interesting, different and complex that I can easily imagine them being the main character of their own stories :) Annika and Liesel, the warrior sisters... Kian, the last one of his kind... the mysterious Ryder and so... much... more... :) these are just a very few examples that prove how rich is the world that this amazingly talented author built for us... believe me, there are sooo many things that I really can't tell you here... about many different characters from this book... but believe me... you'll love them :)

Sometimes when I read reviews or talk about books with my #BookBesties, they tell me that they finished a story, and then immediately started to re-read it... and I never understood that... I get that a book might be awesome, but since you just finished it, why would you want to read it again, instead of starting something new... but now I get it... :) this is the first time when I was so very tempted to immediately start re-reading this story with all the knowledge I had after finishing it... to see if there were some indications about where this is going before... and if I wouldn't be drowning in all the ARCs that I need to read before the release dates I would totally do it :) it's like a diamond in the rough :) for now it's a standalone, but I need more from this author and this world... and I am willing to take anything... short stories or novellas of the different retellings of fairy tales... a prequel, sequel or spin-off... with the same set of characters or focusing on some secondary characters that we met here or about someone totally new... I don't really care... ;) I just need more... because it was too amazing to just end on this one book :) the fantastic writing style... entertaining characters, both main and secondary ones... the retellings... the adventure... the humor... all the twists and turns and surprises along the way... trust me, you need to read it now and then start to recommend it to others, because it is just phenomenal... :)

I have a few quotes for you, to show you a little bit of all the awesomeness that awaits you in this book :) and trust me, this is only a little glimpse of the fantastic writing style that will pull you in from the very first page :) happy reading :)

The beginning of the first chapter that immediately made me love this book ;)
"As Marek Tobar stared down the barrel of a very finely crafted pistol, he began to seriously question his life choices. With the cool metal pressing against his teeth and tongue, all he could think was: this could have gone better."

A little something with Marek and Enyo :)
"Enyo glanced at him and raised an eyebrow. 'You are terrible at hiding,' she told him coolly.
Then she grabbed Marek by the scruff of his neck, pulled him off the bar stool, and they both hit the floor just as an order was screamed and the guards opened fire.
Marek would deny it to the day he died, but he may have let out a little scream as bottles exploded above their heads, half of them with enough alcohol inside that they immediately burst into flames."

A little description of what "clumsy" means when it comes to our main hero ;)
"No one was stronger, or more accident-prone, than Marek. Which was why he was able to drag the guard down, and push him back, and why he wound up accidentally hurling both of them into a burning pile of broken table and flaming alcohol."

One of the first conversations between Marek and Enyo ;)
"'Come on, Marek. You've got to keep up with me.'
'Well,' he snapped. 'One of us has lost a lot of blood and been thrown into a fiery pile of burning man tonight.'
'Get over it, you weren't even charred.' She paused. 'Why weren't you charred? What breed are you, Unnatural?'
Marek hissed in pain when his arm hit a clock-powered well, and she rolled her eyes.
'I have no idea. I have unimaginable power, and not much imagination. The fire thing came as a shock to me, too. I may be a god. I won't lie to you: that would be superb. I would suit glory and adulation.'
'Gods don't bleed, fool.'
'I find that very hurtful.'
'Really? I would've thought the rip in your arm would trump being insulted by your bodyguard.'
'You are not my bodyguard! You're the crazy woman abducting me.'"

Part of a different conversation between them :)
"He also didn't appreciate the rat-like creature that had landed on his head just as dark fell. It hadn't seemed aggressive, so she had just knocked it off with the hilt of her dagger, and he hadn't shut up about it since.
'What if it bit me? You can't tell me that thing wasn't carrying diseases.'
'Do you feel bitten?'
'That doesn't mean anything, it could have numbed me and sucked my blood. This place is creepy as hell.'"

One more with Marek and Enyo... a little more sweet ;)
"'I'd give anything to know where you go, when you're gone,' he said suddenly, then frowned, as if he hadn't meant to say that out loud. 'What happened to your voice, Enyo?'
'It's ugly,' she said quickly, and he shook his head.
'That's not what I meant. I don't think it's ugly. I spend so much of my time waiting for you to speak, hoping you'll talk to me, that whenever I hear it, there's nothing else in the world I'd rather listen to.'"

And the last one ;)
"Enyo appeared next to him, and it was a sign that he was growing as a person that he didn't scream and fall over. That behavior had given her endless amusement when they'd first met."

Release blitz + Review: "After we fall" by Marquita Valentine

Book 3 in series Take the fall
Main characters: Hunter Sloan and Evangeline Ambrose

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review, and I have to say that I really loved it :) I was actually surprised how much I enjoyed it, cause I did not expect to fall in love with these characters and their story as much as I did :) don't worry if you are new to this author or this series, because I was :) it's the first book written by her that I read, but definitely NOT the last ;) and my lack of knowledge about previous stories absolutely did not diminish my pleasure of reading this book :) so don't worry about it and just pick it up, because it was absolutely fantastic :) but let me tell you more about it :)

So let me start with our main couple :) Hunter is a cop... a very sexy cop with sarcastic sense of humor so I was totally in love with him in the first few chapters... ;) what can I say? I'm a sucker for that ;) he joined the force at a very young age for very personal reasons connected to his past... I don't want to get into too many details, but let me just say that his father used to beat up his mother and him...and then we have Evangeline... she was married to an abusive husband for six years before finally escaping from him, six months prior to the beginning of this story :) and it was actually Hunter who found her that night and escorted her to the women's shelter... since I haven't read previous books, I have no idea if that situation was mentioned or described in them, but just a few sentences here is enough as an introduction to the story :) so as I said before, we start the book six months later and he still can't stop thinking about her... so imagine his surprise when she turns out to be his new neighbour ;)

I absolutely loved the build up of a relationship between them :) it's kind of slow, but very sweet :) and even though the story is not very long, I definitely did not felt like their journey was rushed or anything :) but I do feel the need to mention that I am partially biased to these types of stories... :) don't get me wrong, it's not because something like that happened to me or anything, but books where the heroine is overcoming this type of situation always gets to me more somehow... maybe it's because it's usually a journey when they become strong again, when they are re-building their life... it's just... I have a soft spot for those stories :) but, on the other hand, it definitely makes it harder for me to really love those books, because I have certain expectations about them :) and I am pleased to say that this book was absolutely spectacular... :) I love how it showed that the journey for Evangeline is far from over, but she's getting there closer and closer every single day... I loved the slow build up between her and Hunter... that there is this... attraction and sparks, but she doesn't just jump right into bed with him... :) I enjoyed their relationship immensly... :) and this book has such a beautiful ending... just... <sigh> :) and now I am definitely waiting for the next one ;) why, you ask? oh I'll tell you ;)

I have just one word for you... Saylor :) she's this awesome, quirky neighbour and a new friend of Evangeline and I know that she will get her own book... well, I don't necessarily KNOW that, but I have a pretty big hopes for it... ;) and it would be just perfect if it'd be the next one, cause I need her happy ending :) she was such a fun character to read about and I want more of her :) I need to know more... :) so fingers crossed ;) there were of course more secondary characters, but the main couple took the most space in this story, as they should ;) and from all the rest, I loved Saylor so much, that all other sort of faded in the background... :) although I need to mention, that there are dogs in this book :) <sigh> another bonus points for me cause I am a huge dog person ;)

It was such a fast read for me :) I fell in love with the writing style from the very beginning, and the fact that we have two perspectives in this story is a huge bonus for me :) I love to be able to get inside the heads of both main characters, especially if its done as well as in this book :) and even though the book wasn't very long, it told an absolutely lovely story of love and getting back your strenght and just... <sigh> :) I adored the character development that Evangeline went through :) from the beginning you could see the glimpses of the woman she used to be before... but the further we got into the book the more this sassy side of her came to light... :) so seeing her get her happy ending with Hunter was a true delight... and yes, I am perfectly aware that she's a fictional character, but reading would be sooo boring if we would not get invested into the stories and characters that we read about :) so I am totally recommending for you guys to pick it out :) you can start from this book, even if you are new to this author :) I did it this way and it was amazing :) but I will say that her writing style was so fantastic that I am definitely picking up some of her previous stories :) I want to see if she will enchant me once again :)

I have a few quotes for you because I really wanted to show you the writing style and interactions that awaits you in this story :) but since they come from an ARC version, they might be slightly different in the finished one :) but it will show you what awesomeness is waiting for you if you pick it up ;) happy reading :)

One of the first interactions between Hunter and Evangeline :) Evangeline first :)
"'Look, I wasn't breaking the law.'
'You were trespassing on Paula Case's yard.'
My jaw drops. 'You saw that?'
'I'm pretty sure it's against the law to spy on people.'
'You were in plain sight.' He crosses his arms over his broad chest, muscles rippling. I can't help but stare. Tattoos on his biceps and at the top of his hips don't help things. 'My eyes are up here, gorgeous.'
My mouth opens and closes a couple of times even as my gaze snaps to his face. 'I wasn't...'
'You were.'
Yeah, I totally was."

A little something when Evangeline met Saylor, by finding her cat with an R2-D2 shaped tag ;) Saylor first :)
"'There you are.' Scooping up her cat, she scolds her gently before turning her attention to me. 'She used the force to escape and I've been looking for her for the past ten minutes.'
'Pretty sure she was leading the rebel army away from the stormtroopers. So, go easy on her.'
The brunette regards me for a minute as if she's not sure if I'm making fun of her. 'Possibly she thinks I'm Vader since I tricked her into taking a bath this morning.'
I nod solemnly. 'You're a dead ringer for him, for sure.'"

A little bit of Hunter :)
"After a shitastic day at work, I am eager as hell for a beer and a juicy steak on the grill, but before I can grab a bottle from the fridge, my phone rings and I groan. It's my partner, Dwight. Today he was promoted to detective, and, while I'm proud of him, I don't want a new partner. Shit, I'm half afraid they'll put me with Roberts and I'll end up killing the guy on the first day we're together. While that might do the world a favor, it won't help me when I'm up for promotion."

And a little bit of Evangeline ;)
"Adulting sucks when you're a single woman without a... crew, entourage? Squad? I can't keep up with the latest term for <group of friends.> I don't even have enough friends to form a triangle. Gah. I'm lame."

And the last one, part of a conversation between Saylor and Evangeline about Hunter ;) Evangeline first :)
"'Then you do think he's attractive?'
'Uh, yeah. I'm not blind. Hunter is Thor hot.' She cants her head side to side. 'But without the blond hair, Nordic background, or hammer.'
'I wouldn't go that far.'
She rolls her eyes. 'You're such a liar.'"

So are you guys ready to one click this gem? cause I have all the links here for you ;)

Review: "Dangerous kisses" by Alice Lake

Author: Alice Lake
Book 1 in series Guild of hybrids
Main characters: Eric Yorke, lord Mathieson and Lavinia Halls

First of all, I would like to thank Alice Lake for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review :) you are a sweetheart and it was a pleasure reading your novel :) and before you guys start to question my honest judgement of this book just because I got it for free, I want to stop that right now... you should already know that about me, and if you don't, I'll tell it again :) I am very proud of the fact that I'm always sharing with you my honest opinions :) am I excited about getting ARCs and free books? of course :) does it affect my reviews? absolutely not :) so when I say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I mean it :) and now let me tell you more :)

This story fits perfectly with a lot of books I've been reading lately :) and by that, I mean stories where I have nothing against the hero, but it's the heroine who's my favourite :) as I said, I really liked Eric... the only thing going against him is his awful ex-fiancee... let me explain :) he was engaged for a very long time to Clara, a deceptively nice young woman... that is until he finds her in bed with another man... he immediately terminates their engagement, but gives her the opportunity to announce it, otherwise she would be completely ruined... unfortunately he underestimates how stubborn she is... because Clara has a revenge plan of her own... she hires Lavinia, a member of Guild of hybrids, a secret society of women who help other women... to ruin Eric... have I already mentioned how much I hate her? ;) she of course tells Lavinia a sob story to convince her to accept her case... so now let me go back to Lavinia and why I love her :) she's smart and logical... well, at least most of the time... or at least logical about other people, except Eric ;) she's clever and level-headed and I adored her... :) I loved how real their relationship was... there were sparks and everything, but it was definitely not love at first sight ;) even when they were thrown into a... well, let's call it a compromising situation, it wasn't magically and immediately resolved :) it's really hard for me to say more without spoiling you some stuff, so how about I tell you a bit more about some secondary characters :)

I was a big fan of the idea of a secret society of women... with different talents, helping other women... and remember, that we are talking about times when women were supposed to be wives and nothing more... so the idea of a whole bunch of them being brave and kick-ass and brilliant... I am a fan :) we get to actually meet a few of them in this book and I am looking forward to learn even more about the memebrs and the whole society in general, because it is still pretty mysterious :) but a real scene-stealer for me was Larissa, Lavinia's younger sister :) she's a belly-dancing-snake-charming-spitfire of a girl so imagine my joy when I discovered that she will be the heroine of book #2 :) I simply cannot wait to read her story :) I want to mention one more person, Charlotte :) she's Eric's cousin... young and romantic, but a sweetheart :) I would love to know more about her... :) that was my not-so-subtle wink to the author that maybe... you know... there's a story there somewhere... ;)

Overall I really enjoyed this book :) it was a fast read with a very good writing style :) and who doesn't love secret societies? ;) I loved how real the relationship between Lavinia and Eric was... how it changed with time... it was a lovely historical romance that you can totally read as a standalone, cause the whole situation with our main couple and all that is resolved before the end :) but I need to warn you... you're gonna want to read at least book #2 after this one... because Larissa is a hoot :) I think I need to go and pester Alice about the release date of that gem... ;) in a loving way of course ;) it's an absolutely fantastic introduction to this lovely series that will leave you wanting and needing to know more... ;)

I have just a few quotes for you, to show a glimpse of the interactions inside this lovely story :) there were of course much more in the actual book but they were either too long or way too spoilerific, so these three will have to suffice ;) happy reading :)

Part of a converstion between Lavinia and Eric :)
"'Why are you here?'
He shook his head as if addressing a child. 'Is that any way to talk to a caller?'
'Lord Mathieson, as far as I'm concerned, you have ceased to be worthy of any kind of polite manners whatsoever.'
This elicited a bark of laughter from him.
'I was not joking in the slightest,' she said dryly.
'I believe you wholeheartedly,' he replied with good humor."

A little scene between Lavinia, Eric and Larissa, to show you why the younger Halls sister is my favourite ;)
"'Good Lord, what happened to you?' Larissa declared upon seeing Lord Mathieson.
'Larissa, where are your manners?' Lavinia said through clipped teeth.
Larissa looked at her sideways and shrugged. 'Good day, my lord. That is a mighty black eye you got there,' she remarked, causing Lord Mathieson to chuckle.
'Is it that noticeable?'
'Yes sir!' Larissa grinned. Lavinia nudged her in the ribs.
'Am I a fright?' He examined his reflection in the mirror.
'Apart from the eye, the rest of you will do,' Larissa replied with a smile."

Part of a conversation between Eric and his cousins :)
"'How was your journey?' Eric asked once the butler left.
Margaret handed out the cups and made herself comfortable. Her skirts billowed around her like a cloud. 'The journey was as it always is, tedious and boring.'
Charlotte nodded quickly before taking a sip. 'But then we arrived here only to find scandal and adventures and murder have been afoot!' she said all in one breath.
Eric's heart skipped a beat. 'Murder?!'
'Well, perhaps not murder,' Charlotte waved the comment away with a grin, 'but you have to admit, it does sound so much more exciting put that way.'"

Random ramblings of a bookworm ;) #10

Listening to music with your whole body
Lazy reviewers
Why "The huntsman: winter's war" was awesome

Welcome, welcome to another edition of my #RandomRamblings post :) I can't believe it's #10 already :) I'm having so much fun writing them and I hope that you can see that in my posts :) and that you enjoy them as well :) let's be chaotic again and start from the very end of the headlines, shall we? ;)

I finally went to see the movie... the one I was really looking forward to see... :) and "The huntsman: winter's war" was just as awesome as I hoped it would be :) and I want to share with you guys some of my thoughts about it :) don't worry, it will be spoiler free :) first of all... because I was wondering about that myself before I went to actually see it, is it a sequel, a prequel or what to "Snow White and the huntsman" :) and the answert to that is... it's complicated :) without giving anything away, the beginning of the movie is a prequel, telling us a story that took place before the first movie... but then we skip seven years later, and get to the part that is taking place after that first movie... :) I hope that makes sense even without more details :) I thought that it was a pretty clever idea :) but I absolutely loved this movie, so I may be biased ;) after all it's a mix of everything I love to watch on the big screen... adventure, magic, fantasy and entertaining characters with just the right amount of humor :) I enjoyed myself immensly and can definitely recommend it for others to see ;) if you want more details, send me a PM on my facebook page and we can talk about it without spoiling it for everyone else :)

I also wanted to share with you guys something that's been really bothering me lately... lazy reviewers... ugh... but I need to make something very clear... :) to all of you people... all of you regular readers, who spend your own money on a book... who after reading it take your time and write a review on Amazon, Goodreads or wherever... doesn't matter if it's a 5 stars or a 1 star review, doesn't matter how long it is... every sentence you write is valuable... because you don't have to do that... and the fact that you do is amazing and appreciated :) so I'm not talking about you guys :) I'm talking about book bloggers... people who are receiving ARCs and free copies of books from authors and publishers, sometimes months before the release date... and all you can do is copy/paste the synopsis and the cover and write two sentences?!?!? I kid you not... lately I've stumbled upon quite a few of those... as a reader, who was looking for an honest opinion about a book, that tells me nothing... "if you like second chances romances, read this one"... that was honestly the only sentence about a book in one of the "reviews" I read... and I was sitting there wondering where is the rest of the review... did I miss it? maybe if I scroll down... but no... that was it... don't get me wrong, it doesn't have to be a whole essay or anything, but I need more... and if you are a book blogger... and you get those free books... and that's all you can write... <sighs> I'm both pissed and disappointed with you... because you can do so much better... I have #BloggerBesties who are proving time and time again, that it IS possible to write a good review, even if it's not super long... a couple of paragraphs can be just enough if you write them well... :)

And last but not least, let's talk about music... ;) or to be more accurate, the way you listen to music... ;) because I can't seem to just sit and listen to it... ;) it always involves some sort of body movement... ;) depending whether I'm in a public place or at home it vary between head nodding, foot tapping to full on dance party that may or may not involve hips shaking and all sort of movements that are beyond description using regular words ;) but I love it :) and I refuse to believe that you guys don't understand what I'm talking about... come on, don't be shy and admit it... ;) if you hear a good song it's impossible to just sit and do nothing more besides listening... :) I want to share with you guys my most recent whole-body-moving song ;) in fact I dare you to listen to it and do nothing... it's impossible ;)

That's a wrap for today people :) I hope you had as much fun reading it as I had writing it :) and if you have any thoughts or comments that you'd like to share with me, feel free to do it here, on my facebook page or you can find me on Goodreads as well :) big hugs to you all :)

Book tour + Review: "Dirty" by Kylie Scott

Author: Kylie Scott
Title: "Dirty"
Book 1 in series Dive Bar
Main characters: Vaughan Hewson and Lydia Green

You guys... this book was... just... so freaking AWESOME!!!!!!!! :) and yes, all those exclamation points were absolutely necessary ;) and the fact that I got my hands on the ARC of this gem have nothing to do with my joy and overall awesomeness of this book :) first of all, this was probably the ARC that I wanted to get the most, but I actually didn't think I would... so when I was accepted, some unhuman sound may or may not came out of my mouth... and we all know that it DID in fact happened so let's just move on... ;) but you guys know by now, that I take great pride in always writing my honest reviews and opinions, so when I say that this book was amazing, it was truly amazing... the only difference is that I got to read it a little bit earlier than I thought I would... :) and believe me, after loving her Stage Dive series... and by that I mean of course devour all four books in 5,5 days ;) I was afraid that this spin-off series will not meet my very high expectations... how glad I am to be wrong about that :) it was the same hilarious and inappropriate writing style I loved and characters that make me really need the next stories... ;) but don't worry, if you haven't read Stage Dive series, you can totally read this one :) it works as a standalone as well and is in fact a great example of the hilarious and highly entertaining writing style of Kylie Scott, so go one-click this bad boy... ;) ok, now that the first part of my excitement is out... and yes, there will be more... ;) let's get into a bit more details :)

So about that main couple... usually it's the guy who steals my heart... :) and don't get me wrong... Vaughan was definitely... <sigh> ;) he first appeared in the final book in Stage Dive series, and I was very excited when I heard he's gonna be the hero of his own story... and he did not disappointed... :) he was guitar-playing-tattooed-charming-your-panties-off-with-the-most-inappropriate-things hero ;) and I loved every bit of him :) but it was actually Lydia who I loved the most :) I adored that she was a sassy, hilarious, grab-life-by-the-horns kind of a girl :) I think it's my favourite type of heroines in books :) smart and funny :) but I am kind of used to it by now in Kylie Scott's books... :) cause all the lovely women in Stage Dive series were amazing as well :)

Vaughan and Lydia met in very unusual circumstances... :) and by that I mean that she ran off on her wedding day after learning that her future husband is actually gay and in a relationship with his best man... talk about a wake up call... ;) but after climbing a fence she realizes that lack of condition stands in her way of running away further... ;) so instead she sort of breaks in next door... hey, the window is open after all ;) she lands face first in the bathroom and hides in the bath tub... ;) I kid you not... ;) when she is soon found by Vaughan... and by a totally naked Vaughan I have to add... ;) <sigh> wait, were was I? sorry, got distracted there for a minute ;) I don't want to go into too many details about what happens in the days after that first highly entertaining encounter, because it is really better for you to read it for yourselves, but I am gonna say this... it's a fast but sweet and definitaly hilarious journey that you all need to experience :)

As a first book in a brand new series, this one does a great job introducing a bunch of new characters that I can't wait to read more about ;) I am just gonna mention a few, and without much details, but if I would write everything I want to, this review would take forever... ;) so we have Nell, Vaughan's sister and co-owner of the titular "Dive Bar" :) there's Pat, her... I wanna say husband cause they're not divorced, but they are separated... it's complicated ;) then there's definitely Joe and Eric, brothers who work in the Dive Bar... I think one of them or both might be co-owners as well, but to be honest I don't remember that little detail at the moment... ;) hey, don't judge... a lot of very interesting things have been happening, and some of the less entertaining details might have slipped my mind ;) and now, since I love them all, I am dying to read about each and every one of them... ;) and then some more... ;)

In case you haven't noticed yet I absolutely loved this book :) the writing style was great, the characters were fantastic and the story was hilarious, entertaining and sexy as hell... ;) so if you are already a fan of Kylie Scott and her writing style, go one-click it right now... ;) this book is everything we love about her :) and as a bonus we do have one Stage Dive member who appears in this book... and it's my favourite one so double points from me ;) but if you are new to this amazingly talented lady, fear not :) this story can totally be your perfect introduction into her writing style and overall awesomeness ;) it's a highly entertaining story with colorful characters that you would love to be friends with in real life... :) after inhaling this book in two days I am eagerly anticipating the next installment... which is gonna appear in november... damn... ;) it's such a long time... <sigh> what can you do...? ;) I can only comfort myself in the fact that it's just the beginning to what shapes up to be a great series :)

I have for you a few quotes today :) I really wanted to show you a tiny glimpse into all the hilarious awesomeness that awaits you inside this book, but since they come from an ARC, the finished version might be slightly different :) happy reading :)

One of Lydia's inner monologues after she finds out ;)
"Blind panic seized me and I ran. Not easy to do wildly out of shape and in full wedding regalia, but I managed. Hell, I fucking flew. It's amazing what terror can do. Out the French doors and onto the patio. Across the expanse of manicured green lawn, my stiletto heels sinking into the soft ground with every hurried step. Normally, I wasn't much for prayer. Surely, however, the Big Guy wouldn't let me take a tumble and break my ass. Not today. If he really and truly felt the need to smite me some more, it could wait. Today I'd suffered enough."

Part of the first conversation between Vaughan and Lydia in that bathroom ;)
"'You touch any of my stuff?' he asked. 'Take anything?'
'Yes, your sofa is cunningly hidden down the front of my dress. You won't believe where I fit the TV.'"

Another one of Lydia's inner monologues ;)
"He was so warm and lovely and stuff. If the shitty day and toxic tequila had left me with an iota more energy I'd run my no-strings-sex-between-new-friends idea past him. As it was, I'd save it up for tomorrow. At least I had my memories of him bare ass naked to keep me happy in the meantime. And trust me, there was real happiness to be had in having seen this man naked. My dreams had better be full of him, or I and my subconscious would be having a serious talk."

Part of a conversation between Vaughan and Nell ;) Nell first :)
"'Have you even evolved since you were eight?'
'I'm taller. And I got over the whole girl-germs thing too.' He winked.
'Kind of figured that, what with the way you treated the fly on your pants like a revolving door during high school.' For the next part, Nell adopted a low manly tone, 'Hey, I'm the guitarist in a band. I write songs and I care about feelings and shit. Come on, you know you want a piece of this, baby.'
I quietly sniggered (she did his voice so well).
Vaughan cracked up laughing, nearly doubling over at the waist. 'Not bad. But you have to offer to play them some broody-ass emo tunes out by the lake. Works every time.'"

And the last one between Vaughan and Lydia ;)
"'Something you need to know,' he said. 'Before tonight.'
'What's that?'
'I put out on the first date,' he told me with a perfectly straight face. 'That okay with you?'
'Oh, I'm counting on it.' My face might have been aflame, but then so was the rest of my body. 'I mean... it would have been so awkward if you expected me to respect you for your mind or something. Yikes, how embarrassing. Between you and me, I'm really only interested in getting into your pants.'
The corners of his mouth twitched.
'I'm sure you're a nice guy and all but, priorities, you know?'"

If you haven't already done it, go on and one click this baby right now ;)

And if all that is still not enough, follow this little link right -> here <- for additional sneak peek :) and if you need more convincing, I have for you yet another excerpt... and this one is definitely dirty... ;)

Excerpt #2

“Once upon a time,” he began, voice low and measured. “There was a princess. A beautiful, occasionally annoying princess.”
“What was her name?”
“Ah, Notlydia.”
I frowned. “Her name is Notlydia?”
“You wanted a story, I’m giving you one. Shut up.”
An even heavier sigh from the man. “Anyhoo, Notlydia was all set up to marry this prince. We’ll call him Prince Bag of Dicks.”
“Works for me.”
“But on the day of her wedding, when she was wearing this sweet dress that served her tits up like they were a fucking platter...”
“Is this an R-rated story?”
“Please,” he said, sliding an arm around my bare waist. And I let him. “R is for rubbish. If you don’t get to see any penetration then you’re wasting your time. This is XXX.”
I laughed.
“So on the day of her wedding to Prince Bag of Dicks, Notlydia kisses him and he turns into a big slimy two-headed toad with terrible breath and even worse foot odor.”
“Whoa.” I rested my head back against his shoulder. “Poor Notlydia.”
“Hell of a plot twist, right?”
“Never saw that one coming.”
“Mm.” He rested his cheek against the top of my head.
“What happens next?”
“Well, she’s completely freaked out, of course.”
“Of course.”
“And she takes off into the woods. She’s running through bushes, jumping fences, climbing trees, you name it. Nothing’s going to stop her from getting the hell away from that toad, Prince Bag of Dicks.” He took a sip of beer. “Unfortunately, she loses her fancy dress along the way. She’s just down to some skimpy underwear and a corset and with all that jogging through the forest, it’s barely holding her in. One decent breath and there’s going to be nipple out there for all the world to see.
Did I happen to mention she’d been voted Best Rack in the kingdom four years running? Anyway, eventually she finds this small cottage. Now, what you don’t know about Notlydia is that she has a shady past.”I tried to look up at him. But with the angle, all I got was stubble and cheekbone. “That doesn’t sound like Notlydia.”
“Be quiet.” A hand covered my mouth. “Notlydia’s a dirty, dirty girl. Got a bad side like you wouldn’t believe. A little breaking and entering is nothing to her. So into the house she goes. But she’s all muddy from running through the woods, see? She can’t let people see her like this, she’s a princess, for fuck’s sake.”
The hand remained over my mouth. Which was fine, I had nothing to add to his pornographic fairy tale.
“Notlydia gets in the shower and starts soaping herself. There’s lots of bubbles and steam, and she’s a modern woman so there’s a bit of self-love. She even finds time to wash her hair, shave under her pits. Things like that. But then the owner of the cottage wakes up and hears the water running. He stomps into the bathroom saying, someone’s using up my hot water. Notlydia cries out, not me, not me.”
He craned his neck, meeting my gaze. “See, babe, what did I tell you? That Notlydia is a filthy little liar.”
I looked up to heaven. No help was forthcoming.
“Someone’s using up all my soap, says the owner. Not me, not me, cries Notlydia.” He put his lips next to my ear. “She should be ashamed of herself, shouldn’t she? If ever a busty princess deserved a spanking.”
I bit at the palm of his hand, teeth catching at the fleshy mound beneath his thumb.
“Ow.” He laughed, pulling his hand free. “Then the owner said, someone’s been fingering herself in my shower.”
“Stop!” I put my hands over my ears, trying desperately to hold in my laughter. “This is the worst story ever. The Brothers Grimm are rolling over in their graves.”
“Notlydia throws back the shower curtain and says, oh yeah, big boy, that was me. Come and get it. And they have wild sex all over the cottage.” Vaughan’s body jerked beneath mine as he laughed his ass off. “The end.”
“No way. Notlydia is virtuous and pure. She’d never pull that sort of shit.”
“Nah.” He chuckled. “It all happened exactly as I said. Dirtiest princess in all the land.”
“Like hell. The owner of that cottage was a pervert and a deviant. Why, he would have picked the lock on a chastity belt. She never stood a chance.” Difficult to maintain my pious stance, given I’d started laughing so hard tears were pouring down my cheeks. The funny bastard. “I want to know more about this cottage owner. What’s his name?”
“I don’t know. Let me think...” He rested his chin back on top of my head. “He definitely isn’t Prince Charming.”
“He could be!”
“If he wanted to. Or not. Whatever,” I added weakly. Crap. “Let’s go back to not talking.”
I was a moron.
We’d been all relaxed and laughing. Me and my idiot mouth. Way to go, Lydia. Just shout out any old impossible daydream to the dude who’s made it clear there was no future “we.” If someone could just direct me to the nearest brick wall, I’d knock a little sense into myself. On the other hand, it was two stupid words. Surely he could have ignored the last hundred years of Disney perpetuating slick-haired young royals gallivanting around the countryside saving hot babes in distress. For the sake of getting along. God knows, Chris never had any problems ignoring or placating me. I’d seen his thoughtless gorgeous smile aimed my way a hundred times. No, a thousand. If only I’d recognized it for what it was.
Ugh. Just the thought of it made me want to punch the douche all over again.
Maybe I needed a bit more than a week to get over that catastrophe. The money would help. Substantially. I’d never imagined that compromising my morals and taking hush money from such foul woe-begotten assholes would feel so good. Maybe I should sell out more often.
“This, ah, this Prince Charming of yours,” he said haltingly.
Vaughan shifted beneath me, pushing out a heavy breath. “I mean, it doesn’t make sense, does it? Why would he be in a cottage instead of a castle?”
“Well . . . his parents, the king and queen of the neighboring kingdom, died in a terrible accident.”
I stayed perfectly still, waiting to see how he’d react.
“I see.”
“And it hurt him so bad he just, he didn’t want to be a prince anymore.”
Nothing from him.
“Bad things happen in fairy tales sometimes.”
A grunt.
“It’s not fair, but it happens,” I said, feeling my way with more caution than skill. “The prince loved his parents and the castle had too many memories.”
“So he ran away into the woods too.”
“Doesn’t sound like much of a prince if he can’t handle his shit,” he said.
“Princes are just men too, human beings. I don’t think a crown or a penis gives you magical invulnerability to loss and pain.” I stared at the wall, thinking the problem through. “Life is hard. Terrible things happen. We all have feelings. We’re all just flesh and blood, trying to do our best.”
“Running away from problems isn’t doing your best.” His voice echoed around the small room, the same as around in my head.
What with holding the Coeur d’Alene title for runaway bride of the year, I had no answer. None at all. So much for my half-assed wisdom.

And to finish this awesome post, I have for you some very pretty teasers :)
