Review: "Rise" by Karina Bliss

Author: Karina Bliss
Title: "Rise"
Book 1 of series Rock solid
Main characters: Zander Freedman and Elizabeth Winston

I must confess.... I would probably never heard of this author and this particular book, but fortunately for me, my favourite author Nalini Singh... and believe me, it took a lot of time to establish my favourite author ;) she recommended it on her facebook page :) so naturally I had to give it a try ;) plus when I read what it's about I was curious :) I mean come on... who doesn't love a rock star? ;)

It turns out that this book was different than I expected, but in a good way... :) it was a really good written story :) there wasn't this instant lust, this I-love-you-from-the-first-sight-so-I-have-to-have-you-right-now kind of passion... instead we got slowly building "relationship" :) and I'm using     --> "" <-- because they start as strictly professional kind of co-workers, then it goes into this unexpected sort of friendship and slowly there is something more... ;) maybe it's because they are both fully grown up characters... ;) I mean Zander is pushing forty, and Elizabeth is thirty five, so they're definitely not teenagers ;) but I really loved reading their story :) maybe I'm not as immune as I would like to think to "Z-factor" ;) oh, the "Z-factor"... Zander's got plenty of it :) he's very charismatic... I mean, there is a reason why he can move a whole stadium of people :) and Elizabeth is just this seemingly responsible and calm person, but she definitely has a little bit more of a wild side ;)

As usually in the first book of a series, we get to meet main characters of future books, in this case, the rest of the band and Zander's personal assistant... and maybe someone else, but I'm not entirely sure how's her story gonna go... if she's even gonna get her own, so I'm not gonna say anything more and leave it to you, to decide what you think after finishing the book :) but what I do know for sure, is that Jared and Kayla's novella is next :) they are already married in the first book, but I'm very curious to read some more from their point of view :) and the next full lenght book is gonna be Dimity's (Zander's personal assistant) happy ever after ;) and after getting to know her a little bit better in "Rise" I just can't wait to see, who will she end up with ;) and how's that gonna happen ;)

All in all it was a really good read, and I definitely would recommend it to all of you who likes rock stars... cause I mean, who doesn't? I know I wrote that already in this review, but it needs to be repeated... it's that important ;) and to those of you who likes a slow building romance... but don't worry, the fact that it's slow does not mean there is no heat... oh there is... ;) believe you me... ;) so what are you waiting for? ;)

Review: "Neanderthal seeks human" by Penny Reid

Author: Penny Reid
Book 1 of series Knitting in the city
Main characters: Quinn Sullivan and Janie Morris

I have to start from the most important part of this review... a big, huge, gigantic... you get the gist... ;) enormous THANK YOU to Susan, who recommended me this author :) without her I would probably never came across this fantastic woman, and that is a perspective too scary to even think about ;) so Susan, if we ever get a chance to meet in person, I owe you a coffee, tea, smoothie, hot chocolate... basically, a beverage of your choosing ;)

Now to the good part... the actual book... you guys... it was amazing... :) exactly what I needed... it was the best pick-me-up-cheer-me-up-bring-a-huge-smile-on-my-face book ever... ok, there is a possibility that I may be slightly exaggerating, but it was really that much fun :) I had the biggest smile on my face throughout the whole book... and I laughed out loud so many times, that I'm incredibly thankful that I read this book at home, and not in a public place... can you imagine all those people... looking and wondering "what the hell?!?" :) I mean, I wouldn't care, cause I would probably be too busy with my book to notice it ;)

Let's start with the secondary characters, they were truly a delight :) I mean... I loved Steven from the very first scene he appeared :) and don't even get me started on the girls from the knitting club :) you can't imagine how excited I am to know, that there are more books in this series and I will have the opportunity to read about their own adventures and happy endings :)

And let me tell you about the main characters... my oh my... there is a reason why they gave Quinn nickname "Sir Handsome McHotpants" ;) don't look at me like that... it was their idea :) I'm just a messenger ;) and Janie... she is soooo... how to put it best... socially awkward :) and a little bit clueless about the whole flirting thing... :) I can so relate to that :) it would be best if I could have a person walking with me everywhere to point out and explain stuff when it involves another people ;) so of course I loved her from the start :) their interactions are adorable :) and let's not forget about Janie's inner monologues... about totally random facts... that are usually not inner but outer monologues... ;) and as a bonus... if you want to cuss less, who would decide to, instead of bad words, use the phrase "by the power of Thor"??? :)

I did my best to finish reading as fast as I could, so you would have something fun to read over the weekend :) I know, it's hard work, but someone has to do it, so you're welcome ;) I will leave you with just a few, almost randomly chosen quotes from Janie, but believe me, there are so much more in the book... so if you're in need of a better mood, give this one a try ;)

"I need to make certain that she knows that I know that he knows he isn't interested... I was starting to confuse myself."

Because she's tall, this is her response when someone says she's big "Yes. I ate all my vegetables as a child."

"Oh really? I can't wait to hear what my problem is. You've known me a total of three weeks and you've already diagnosed the problem. The suspense is killing me. Well, please enlighten me oh great identifier of problems."

Review: "Pleasure of a dark prince" by Kresley Cole

Author: Kresley Cole
Book 9 of series Immortals after dark
Main characters: Garreth and Lucia

At the beginning of this review, I would like to thank my packmates from Nalini Singh Fans facebook group :) when I asked for their recommendations about books, cause I'm always looking for it, they came up with tones of amazing books :) I heard about some of them, but a lot of them were knew to me :) I can't wait to try some of them, but a lot of people encouraged me to try Immortals after dark :) I read 8 books before, but after that, and I can't remember why, probably because some book that I was waiting for was published around that time, I took a break from it and just didn't came back... and now I just can't understand how I was able to put it down :) I loved it :) it was super funny, very hot and exciting book :) so thank you again for helping me remember why I loved this series in the first place :)

Although I had some problems in the beginning, because about 1/3 of the book takes place before the start of the whole series and somewhere in between the first 8 books... it jumps form time to time... so at first I was a little bit confused, cause it was hard to keep track of the events, until finally I decided to just go with the flow and trust, that if I need to know some information about a character or event from previuos ones, it will be mentioned :) fortunately, it was :) plus, the glossary of terms in the beginning was very helpful :) I read so many paranormal/fantasy stories, each of them with their own set of rules, races and stuff, that it was a good way to remind me what set of rules apply to this world :)

I really loved both of the main characters :) I think that it was great, that Lucia was so proud of how good she is with certain skills... I mean, why she's supposd to be modest and pretend that she's worse... she should be proud :) and don't get me started on Garreth.. :) I adored how curious and relentless he was... and the fact that he has an accent... my oh my... ;) give me a hottie with an accent and I'm melted in the puddle on the floor... I need a minute... ok, maybe like a couple of minutes ;) ok, I'm back to my normal self... at least as normal as I can be ;) and to top that off, he's a Lykae... ;) I have a very soft spot for every kind of Lykae/werewolf/changeling characters... they are always very tactile and there's just something about them... ;) I love their stories :)

After the first 1/3 of the book, when we finally get up to speed to the story, things definitely starts to get more interesting... it was fun before, but after that it's even better.. there is an evil god, mysterious events from Lucia's past and a very eventful trip to the Amazon... the rainforest and river, not the online site ;) I can't say much more, because I don't want to spoil any details, but trust me, it's a must read for every book lover of paranormal-romance-fun-super-sizzling-hot-sexy stories out there :)

The best compliment I can give this book, is the fact that now I'm going to have to read the next one... fortunately for me, it's already published ;) after I read the last chapter I was like "damn... there goes my plan... now I have to go to the next one" ;) don't worry, the situation with the main couple is totally resolved, but something happens with other people, that makes it impossible to read something else before you know how it will turn out :) and I already had my next book all picked out and ready... ;)

Review: "Midnight's kiss" by Thea Harrison

Author: Thea Harrison
Book 8 in series Elder races
Main characters: Julian and Melisande

A little confession... I had this book on my to be read list, cause I really like this series, but I wasn't going to read it as fast as I did... so how did this happen, you ask? :) I can only blame my sister for it... ;) I'm writing "my sister" because I'm not allowed to call her "my little sister" anymore... even though she is younger than me ;) she read it first, and immediately came to me and told me that I have to read it... like NOW... like drop-everything-you-are-doing-and-get-to-it now :) so I really didn't have a choice... ;) after all, she knows all my weaknesses and soft spots :) and I'm very happy that she did it :) because I loved it just as she predicted I would :)

I was a little sceptic before, cause I didn't really see Julian as a main character of a story... I liked Melisande before, but Julian... I saw him more as a strong secondary character of this series, and couldn't really imagined how could he carry on his broad shoulders (because please... show me a hero of any kind of romance/paranormal romance/historical romance and so on :) who is not well built... I mean, some are taller and bigger, some are more lean but they all look yummy ;) ) his own book... but I was proven wrong :)

I absolutely love when in a series each book is different, each couple has it's own obstacles to overcome before they can be together :) don't get me wrong, I have nothing against a series where books are similar to each other, it's just for me, the each-book-is-different approach is more interesting ;) so I really liked, that Julian and Melisande have a past between them... there is history and some not entirely resolved issues... :) ok... totally not-resolved-even-a-little-bit issues ;) so it's that much satisfying to see how they work to overcome it and how much they grow as people... and by people I of course mean Nightkind king and Light Fae princess ;) it's just shorter that way :) but I'm sure you're able to follow my train of thoughts ;)

Book starts where the previous one left off... so right from the beginning we have some pretty dramatic turn of events... but I believe that all this was necessary, that the main couple had to be forced together in a closed space, so they can finally resolve and confront all that's between them :) plus it's always awesome to see a woman, who doesn't helplessly waits to be saved, but tries her best to do what she can to free herself... even if it's hard or scary... :) and believe me, there are some pretty creepy stuff... ;)

All in all, it's a great addition to a fantastic series full of amazing novellas ;) don't get me wrong, novel-lenght books are awesome, but I think it's harder to create a novella that will truly capture your attention and that will leave you satisfied, so you don't feel the story has been rushed :) and she's done it time and time again with each and every one of her novellas in this series :)

Special greetings from the beach :) vacation time :)

Well... maybe my beach doesn't look exactly like the one on the photo, but it's ok :) the effect that it has on me is the same :) strolling on the shore, with my feet in the water... it's the best way for me to charge my batteries for future challenges :) and it doesn't even have to be on long distance... I can walk twenty steps, turn around and walk twenty steps back, turn around again and so on... ;) it's still relaxing :) and this amazing breeze in the air... and the sound of waves... :) I'm in heaven :) the best proof that this sound relaxes me it's the fact that I listen to it when I do my yoga... when I close my eyes I can pretend that I'm on the beach... ;) but for now, when I'm actually here, I'm gonna charge all my batteries to full capacity :)

I hope that even if you are not on vacation, that you'll be able to find today at least one thing that will bring a smile to your face :) I'm sending you my positive vibes to help with that ;) even though after my walks on the beach, parts of my body are still pale, another are in beautiful red shade :) and the rest is somewhere in between ;)

And a super special hugs and kisses to my first regular readers... in random order :) Elena, Jonell, Susan, Karen, Beata and Ewelina :) you girls are awesome and your words of encouragement means so much to me :) thank you for that :) and of course my most amazing, awesome and one of a kind sister... :) she knows how special she is to me, and since she is here with me, I'm gonna go now, and give her the hug myself ;)

Review: "The mistake" by Elle Kennedy

Author: Elle Kennedy
Book 2 of series Off-campus
Main characters: John Logan and Grace Ivers

First things first... I really loved this book ;) it's the second one in the series, and it's different from the first one (which I think is a good thing) but it's just as entertaining and fun to read :) Logan thinks that he has a serious crush on his best friend girlfriend (I'm talking about the couple from the first book) so when he meets Grace he thinks that she's just a distraction... before he realizes the truth, he already does something stupid, and later tries to prove to Grace that his feelings for her are real :) it's really adorable ;)

But I mean... how could he not realize it sooner... that he did not have a crush on Hannah and wanted only what she and Garrett has?!? Did he not watched "Friends"?!? ;) you know... the one where Joey has a dream about Monica when she's with Chandler and thinks he has a crush on her until they help him realize that he just want a relationship like theirs :) unfortunately for him, he must have not seen this, or just forgotten about it ;) fortunately for him (and for us, because it's super fun to read) he can be very stubborn :) so when he realizes the truth and decides to win her back it becomes a truly great book :)

Because there is a list... and what a list it is... ;) I think one of my favourite scenes involves the list... red velvet... and a picture... :) I'm gonna give you a moment to think about that... and yes... it's even more fun than you can imagine ;) Plus, Grace is such a great character :) she's fun and smart... :) and her babbling is totally cute ;) it is a perfect read for a hot, summer day :) cause then you can pretend that you're hot because of the weather and not the book ;)

In this book we also get a glimpse of some of the potential characters for future stories... and I absolutely don't mind :) I hope she will write and write and write this series ;) I mean, who doesn't like a good, sexy and funny romance :) if you don't, I don't think we can be friends anymore ;)

The only thing that kind of bothered me, was ultimately how quickly the situation with Logan's father was resolved at the end... I mean, it didn't as much bothered me as it was... I'm not sure how to put it... all in all, it did not affect my opinion about the book and the fact that I definitely will go back and read it again... and again... and again ;)

Now I'm just gonna wait impatiently for Dean's book ;) in the meantime I think I'm gonna try some other books by Elle Kennedy :) I hope they are just as fun, full of amazing characters and a great read, just as this series :)

Review: "Shards of hope" by Nalini Singh

Author: Nalini Singh
Book 14 in series Psy-changeling
Main characters: Aden and Zaira

I actually finished this book two days ago... I just needed time to digest all of the informations... and emotions... because let me just say... it was truly a perfect book :) I couldn't find bad stuff to say about it even if I tried... and let's be honest, I'm not trying very hard ;) but even if I tried I cannot say one bad thing about it :) but I started to expect this from her books... they never disappoints :) some of them I like a little bit more than the others, because of the main characters, or the story, but all of them are always written in this extraordinary style that entertains me and moves me every single time :) I mean, I always would love to have even longer book, but this one was really long :) I wouldn't mind of course, if it would be twice this size ;) but I'm just greedy :) I always want more of her amazing books :)

I'm pretty sure I will not be able to write about everything amazing thing in this book, because there were just so many... :) and I even started making notes while I read ever since I started this blog, so it would be easier for me to later put my thoughts in writing for you :) but there were just so so soooo many great stuff :) so if I don't mention something it's not that I didn't love it, it just means that it must have momentarily slipped my mind :)

So we established already that I loved the book and it was perfect :) now let's talk some more details... :) but don't worry, if you haven't read it yet, I won't spoil anything for you (but there will be some spoilers from previous books) :) first of all, I think that this book was less of an ending to this big "silence" story arc and it was more of an in-between-beginning-for-this-whole-new-amazing-oh-my-God-what-is-gonna-happen-give-me-the-next-one-now kind of a book :) so on the one hand, we see what are the consequences to the fall of silence and the honeycomb protocol, and we can see how Arrows are handling this situation... we can see how Aden is fighting for all of them, and for the better life he believes they can have :) and on the other hand, we are introduced to so many new characters (that needs their own books like ASAP ;) ) and get to know more about characters that were mentioned before :) it's such a big world that I just can't actually imagine ending to this series... because when you think you know a lot about it... you discover this new places and characters... :) and that always keeps you curious and wanting more :)

Plus the relationship between Aden and Zaira truly is one of a kind :) they are both dangerous and lethal... I would even dare to say that she is more lethal than he in certain situations :) and I really love the journey that Zaira goes through in this book... she changes and grows a lot as a person, and she doesn't even see it... I think what I love about her the most is how protective she is about kids... it's truly beautiful and adorable how awkward sometimes she can be around them, but at the same time how good she is with them :) and we get to see how much more complex Aden really is... he is not just this stoic, calm person... oh no, he is definitely not... ;)

Because I want to share with you some stuff that I really loved about the book, but without ruining the experience for those of you who haven't read or finished it yet, I'm gonna write some words and names, that for those of you who already finished it, all will be clear, without spoiling for everyone else :) ok, ready? :) Beatrice, Alejandro, sea-changelings, RainFire and everyone there, especially JoJo... and don't even get me started about "can I have a hug too?" scene... it was so beautiful, so full of emotions... that I cried... and I'm certainly not ashamed of it :) I think it's my favourite scene in the book :) and of course there were many, many, many more great, amazing things that happens in the book... if I wanted to list all of them, I might just as well put here every page from the book ;)

Last but not least :) if you haven't read the newest newsletter, don't do it! ;) I have, and there was this sneak peak of "Archangel's enigma"... and I knew I shouldn't read it, because it's still three looong monhts away... but unfortunately my curiosity got the best of me... and I read it... why oh why did I read it?!? ;) and know I'm counting days to the release day... apparently I will never learn ;) september cannot come fast enough :) so I'm warning you... learn from my mistakes and don't read it ;) for those of you who are not yet on the list, you can sing up here and I highly recommend it :) her newsletters are always full of informations all put in one place about upcoming books, interviews and of course sneak peaks and very special stories just for us ;)

Something special... ;)

I am sitting here, late at night... well, maybe not like in the middle of the night, but still ;) sipping my water with lemon and hey, do not mock :) it's really yummy and refreshing :) and I'm writing something very special to me...

Basically, it's a very big, awesome, super special thank you to all of you who recently read my blog... when I saw that people from all over the world... like literally... United States, Canada, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, Greece... that all of you people read my blog... I was like... I don't even... there are not enough adjectives to explain how amazing that made me feel and how grateful I am to each and every one of you, who took a moment of your time to do it :) I hope at least some of you will come back ;)

I also wanted to give a special shout-out to a facebook group, "Nalini Singh Fans" :) you guys are truly awesome... everyday I enjoy your quotes, thoughts about books and pictures... those pictures... ;) my oh my... ;) I lost myself for a moment, but back to the topic of this post :) thank you all for being so encouraging and kind when I shared with you my blog :) I always knew that this is a place for only the most awesomnest (Is that a word? Did I try to use this word-or-maybe-not-a-word before? Either way it fits perfectly ;) ) people but it was really nice to actually experience it :)

If I could I would hug each and every one of you... I hope you don't think it's creepy ;) it's just that I'm a hugger ;) but since there are hundreds, and sometimes thousands of miles between us, I have to give you my best version of virtual hug ;) so I hope you felt it... I mean like virtually felt it... because if you are sitting by yourself and you felt like someone's hugging you... it wasn't me... now it's starting to get creepy... and now I scared myself... I'm gonna go and read some Garfield comics or else I won't be able to fall asleep tonight ;) ok... I'm babbling, but it's from all the happiness :) so I'm gonna finish before I embarrass myself even more ;)
